Would it be possible to play fantasy RBI Baseball, where we'd all draft players and then let the computer play out a season on watch mode? If so, would anyone be interested?
You know, that's a very interesting idea... I would probably be game to that
I'm down.
I am completely freaking in.
I just hope it turns out better than Deenee v. Dahnah or Online League. Surely we could get something right.
The idea is completely absurd, and I love it. The biggest problem would be sitting through all the games - even a 10-game season would mean that you'd have to sit through 40 games (assuming the all-star teams aren't involved), and at 15 minutes a game, that's 10 hours of RBI without even getting to play. You'd also have to make sure that you paused the game when getting up for a bathroom break, because RBI doesn't keep its own stats.
I have been inspired, however, to see about creating a Tecmo Super Bowl league. Games can be simulated, and stats are kept for you. Also, fantasy football is better than fantasy baseball.
That said, if it goes down, I'd be willing to take part.
Cool, maybe we should just start with the 4 of us to test out this idea, and then if it's fun we can expand the league. There's still a lot we have to work out as far a scoring, which teams should be available (all-stars?), scheduling the games, and I'm sure more things will come up as we go along.
Scoring:
Runs (1)
RBI (1)
1B (1)
2B (2)
3B (3)
HR (5)
SB (1)
Bling/Bop/Boink (-1)
IP (1)
Ks (1)
Runs Allowed (-1)
W (5)
Sv (5)
As for our draft. Lets just choose 4 teams and have an abbreviated season. Say it's Det/Cal/Bos/Min
so schedule would go
Det vs Cal
Det vs Bos
Det vs Min
Cal vs Bos
Cal vs Min
Bos vs Min
6 total games. Positions:
C:
1B:
2B:
SS:
3B:

Let me know what you guys think.
Sorry, Beef, you must've posted while I was typing up my manifesto. We could expand the test run to 5, but I want to keep it small to start out just so we see how it goes. I think the Tengen league failed because there were too many people involved at the beginning.
As far as playing the games out. We'd only have to do like 1 or 2 a week. There's no point in rushing the season. Could be a fun thing to check in every week and see how your players did.
So I guess honesty is the best policy?
Well, we could still use internet play doubly so since you don't need the controllers. This means you both would watch at the same time. The problem is that you can still use your controllers in watch mode, so the potential for cheating is there. Two guys should have a test-run game via the internet, just do cali/boston or something....
I'd like to play, too, if it's not too late to get in. Don't punish me because I actually worked (for once) today and didn't get a chance to check the board!
I just did a test game and I have to say that it was a collossal pain in the ass. Never really realized just how boring watch mode is. And having to pause it after every AB to take down the stats makes the game drag on and on (also didn't help that I was doing it on the commercials of the Cubs game). We'd definately have to split up who records the games because it's a real chore. And I say we just go by the honor system. Having 2 people watch the games online would be way too confusing with all the pausing and whatnot.
We're dealing with one of the crappiest features of RBI, so finding a happy medium is going to be a bit tough. I'm not sure about the "honor system" what would be the point of having your score relayed? I'm guessing some emulators can record a game as a video file of some sort. If we can find an emulator with video recording and Internet play then we'd be set...
Take it for what you will, but you guys should check out www.whatifsports.com there you can simulate any matchup instantly. Use the feature called sim-matchup and play with it a little very cool. I just tested BoSox @ Cali and Boston won 5-1, then Ho @ Cali and Cali wins 3-1. Gives a complete Box Score and Summary. Very Nice.
Logging stats is way too annoying, but I thought of another way to do this. Draft a team fantasy baseball style, then create a ROM with each team. Set up a schedule, and "watch" the games. This way we don't have to keep track of stats, just W-L records. How does that idea sound?
GDavis, that's a phenomenal idea. You'd need to formulate batting and pitching orders, too, which would be a neat strategic excercise.
This is sounding like Dee-Nee's vs Dah-Nah's. I'm still waiting for that one.

Fair enough. I'm pretty much ROM illiterate so I might not be the best choice to be the commish of this league. I still think it could be pretty fun. And I'm sure I could learn the ROM stuff. I say we try to get 8 people and start a draft. Even if the league never gets off the ground it'll be fun to draft all our RBI favorites.
EDIT: Post in this forum if you want in. I'll keep a running tally of the participants up here.
1. GDavis
2. vgp100
3. GlassJoe
4. Dvldog
5. Beefmaster
I'll be in.
Ok, we're going to go with a 5 team league. Here are the drafting rules:
Everyone has to draft the following positions:
C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, LF, CF, RF, 4 Pinch Hitters, 2 starting pitchers and 2 relief pitchers.
You can only pick players that are in the original NES version.
Players are only eligible for the position that they play in the original NES version. (for example, Reggie Jackson can't be your 2nd baseman, Gary Carter can't be your shortstop, etc.).
If you pick a pinch hitter (Armas, Burks, etc.) He must be a pinch hitter on your team.
Starting pitchers are defined as any of the 1st 2 pitchers on any team for the NES version.
Relief pitchers are defined as any of the last 2 pitchers on any team for the NES version.
Once the draft is complete you must submit your batting order. You can bat your players in any order with the exception that the pitcher must hit last.
After the draft is completed I'll set up a schedule. Once the schedule is played out we'll have a RBI world series played out between the 2 teams with the best record.
I've used www.random.org to generate the draft order. It will be in this order:
1: vgp100
2: Dvldog
3: GDavis
4: Glassjoe
5: Beefmaster
This will be a serpatine draft, meaning that Beefmaster gets the last pick in the first round, then Beefmaster gets the first pick in the 2nd round and we go back in reverse order and we reverse the order after each round of picks. I'll start a seperate thread for us to make our picks in.
Another note. All-Star players are not eligible in this draft.
another note guys. You can't draft 3 right fielders for your outfield. You have to pick up one RF, one CF, and one LF.
Is Gibson RF or LF? It says he's RF on the main page but on Pines' page it says he's a LF. Anyone have the instruction booklet handy for a ruling?
dvldog, if you're confused here's an explaination. the main dee-nee.com site has a typo that has Gibson as a RF. You're not allowed to have 2 RFs so that's why I thought you had to re-pick. turns out Gibson's a LF so it's all good.
Changed Gibson and Herndon's positions on the main page, thanks for the update! Now you guys who can't get Potatoes can draft Herndon...
Our rankings all have Gibby at LF but Detroit page said RF. Just an oversight...
Good picks so far guys. I noticed most of you are picking big boppers. I'm trying to fill out the tough positions first because I don't want to end up with guys like Spike Owen and Wally Backman on my team. I'm also interested in seeing how important pitching is gonna be in this league. Remember, because the computer always subs in pitchers from top to bottom, whoever you designate as your SP1 is going to start every game, but with the amount of offense I'm expecting, coupled with the computer's shitty defense I expect that all 4 pitchers will see some action in a lot of the games.
this is the most amazing idea i have ever heard. Im new to the forum, however, i have been a loyal dee-nee supporter for 3 years now. I just cant believe its taken three years to think of this fantasy league idea. Im totally in.
Hey wiz. We've already started drafting so I'm not sure about what everyone thinks about adding someone in the middle of the draft. Also a lot of the top players are already gone. This will probably be a short first season since we're really just testing everything out so you may want to wait until we do season 2 to get in.
Wow, you guys just muscled me out of all the good CFs that round. Looks like I'm gonna be stuck with McGee or Dykstra or maybe K.Bass.
EDIT: At least now I can wait until the last round to pick a CF, since no one else can pick one.
When you guys get the kicks out I want in on FANTASY RBI. Shit, I'll be in for fantasy ballet dancing...
Guys I have been out of town and I don't have time to read all these posts but I am a fantasy machine and I want in.
Yeah, I want in too. I think that makes four people who are waiting for the next league to open up.
Sorry guys, you just had the bad luck of not being on the board when I decided to get off my ass and get the ball rolling on this one. We're probably gonna do a short season on this one, cuz I'd like to get it done by the end of december when I go on vacation. Probably every team will play 2 games against each team, so it'll be an 8 game season.
Once the ROM is created I'll simulate the games and then post recaps of each game with a screen capture of the final stats. Probably in the interest of keeping things fair a non-participant should simulate my games, either someone in the league that isn't matched up with me or a volunteer that isn't in the league. In fact if any of you guys that are interested in fantasy RBI - season 2 want to help me out with simulating the games, creating the ROM, etc. I could definately use some help.

Why yes, it would!
Credit to GDavis as the brainchild for the creation of the Fantasy RBI League. The league has sure come long ways since 2003.
Fighton deserves a lot of credit for elevating the league when he took over in 2005 with his awesome writeups, stats, and introcuction of boxscores...then he stepped away in 2007.
From there I ran two seasons and introduced games on YouTube. Fighton then came back and ran the league brilliantly in 2017.
Tempo game it a go in 2018, but unfortunately, he couldn't finish it due to time constraints and a little burnout.
2019 I started the inaugural Arcade Version, then the league was paused for a year.
2020 Nomaaa started the inaugural Super League (combined the NES and Arcade versions), but Covid and technical issues halted the league.
2020 I rebooted both leagues - we got the Arcade season done in August, then jumped into the Super League shortly after which was just completed.
Doing the games live on Twitch while anyone can tune-in was a HUGE game changer. Then for anyone who missed it, they were able to rewatch the games on Twitch or on YouTube.
WORST TEAM DRAFT
2003 was such a simple time, before YouTube
i can't tell if its nostalgia colored glasses or if i really do miss it
