Title: If pitchers could go yard on occasion?
Post by: TbT on 09/28/05, 02:51:59 PM
whadda yah think of a rom thats basically the same but allows pitchers to hit an occasional home run...lower power than spike owen/santana or whoever but still possible.  i think it would make the games a tad more interesting if the pitchers could hit the ball a bit harder for an occasional gapper or round tripper.

BTW what are the pitchers power and contact numbers?

dumb question anyways, but carry on.

I think the game is fine how it is.  I like the fact that you have to account for a shitty-hitting pitcher in your lineup, and it adds that extra bit of flair when a pitcher actually comes through in a clutch situation.

And an RBI pitcher will never hit a homerun.  You can all stop pretending.  The practical joke on Nacho is all over.  Get out of my head.

According to the FAQ, pitchers have 64 contact, 640 power, and 118 speed.  However, I just loaded the default NES data into Nightwulf's editor, and it came up with 120 speed for pitchers.  Can someone please clarify?

120 speed is correct, they are faster than some players (1 or 2), I'm fairly sure

Yep, 640-64-120.  I like TBT's idea.  I would probably increase the power number AND the contact number.
Maybe like 700/100.

but by increasing the contact number your basically lowering the chance of a homer right?  counter productive, or are you just trying to give them more power, but with very small possibility to go yard?  if so its not a bad idea.

i second. i mean, i am ecstatic when clemens or stanley come in the clutch for a big hit. if that happened every often it wouldn't mean as much.

Pitcher's having similar stats wouldn't do anything for me.

There's really no reason to th row a ball to Santana or Owen or even Ozzie (just work inside to prevent the Petis), just as there's never a reason to not groove one to the pitcher.

Sometimes I get carried away of course, and that usually results in a Sullivan home run.

Right.  It would mean that the pitcher would have the power to hit a very rare home run, but it could only happen if the ball was hit "on the screws".

Never quite understood what that means.
