Title: Official Arcade RBI thread
Post by: Attezzobal on 09/28/05, 05:33:08 PM
Ok...Already Slaughtered LA by NYY and StL...

St Louis fucking rocks...Especially if you throw Ducky Medwick in there, having protection in Ken Boyer for Jack Clark is huge, Lou Brock makes Ozzie Smith seem slow, it'll also be possible to get Ozzie on third, Vince on second and Lou Brock on first for Hornsby.

NY is absolutely impossible to beat, solid all the way up, so far I think it'd be best to sub Maris in for the Scooter and possibly Mattingly for Nettles (although Nettles can go yard).

I love LA's assortment of Brooklyn Dodgers (Snider, Campy, PeeWee, Jackie, Koufax-sorta, Drysdale), but they don't look as formidable as the Yanks and St Louis

I comitted four errors with the Yanks in four innings (two were in foul territory), and committed one with the Cards in a two inning slaughter.

I also found a glitch already, when selecting teams, if you select yours, when you're selecting a team with the CPU if you run it over your selection and back it'll cause your 'button' to disappear...Really no big deal, kinda cool actually.

Can't wait to play against a person in an hour and to get drunk and play against OctoFranco on Saturday.

The Dodgers are a weak hitting lineup, mostly due to lower power guys and no bench, the Yanks lineup is unreal, I think you want to sub for Rizzuto and Lazeri, but I haven't played with them much.

I really like the Reds, Bucky Walters, anyone?

That's just a side-effect of the "allow both players to choose the same team" hack. The coding doesn't support both "buttons" appearing on the same team, since that's not how the game was originally designed. Making it "pretty" would require some fairly extensive recoding of the team select screen. Since it works fine and really isn't an inconvenience, I don't see a need to do much else with it.

I agree--the Yanks are completely on another level from the rest of the teams (arcade and NES).

Night--just curious, would it take a shitload of work to alter the game code to allow for more than 10 teams?  It'd be wicked cool to get all 10 NES teams and the 10 arcade teams on one ROM!

I really don't have anything of substance to say, but I would like to say it is great.  I have played a couple of innings to make sure everything works, and it does.  This is too cool.  It really brings back memories of being in the basement of the student union building, pumping quarters into the Vs. machine to play 9 innings versus my buddy.  Good times.

I need to call my buddy.

More later, maybe.

A 'shitload' is a good way to put it. Unless the gubment gives me a grant to further my RBI research, it's not something I'm likely to tackle.

We've already played with all teams (sans Houston) and I must say that all 9 teams seem pretty equal, what Cincy loses in power they gain (heavily) in pitching, I've used Bucky Walters twice, both times for 8 innings...Oakland is very solid across the board, pitching and offense...The Yanks don't have much pitching (Guidry seems fairly worthless) but christ do they have hitting.

Even matchups across the board (again, minus Houston).

Does it seem to anybody else that 91MPH on the arcade version is equal to about 96-100 on the NES version?

One more 'glitch'

We're all aware that there was never a season in which McGwire hit 62 HRs or Canseco hit 54? How'd that happen?

Also, how the fuck is Fuente (.277, 6HR) a starter for tha Giants but Big Memphis Bill Terry (.401 23) isn't?

Also, the following players I refuse to hit with...Pete Rose, Moe Jorgan, Alvin Dark and because of McGwire and Canseco you will never catch me as Oakland.

Duck Medwick may be my favorite player in the game. ("I understood why they threw the garbage at me, what I didn't understand was why they brought it to the ballpark in the first place")

I fucking LOVE old time ballplayers.

i don't have the lineups in front of me, but my guess on the Fuente thing is this:

he plays 2nd base.  RBI lineups are all "real" lineups in that one player from each position is in the lineup.  bill terry played 1st, if i remember...so weak ass Fuente gets into the lineup based on the fact that he played a weak hitting position.

Bullshit, I hear Bill Terry can play every position, even umpire.

Only if you can prove it with opinions from highly respected baseball people, will I believe that.

Not only that, but I traded Ahman Green for Eric Moulds!  And I may or may not be responsible for Vit leaving us.  I'm on a fucking roll.

Vit is coming by after work to try out some arcade RBI, and Lips/Potsie will be playing on Sunday during football.  We'll put that bad boy to good use...

They beg and they plead

Those are the correct stats, as shown on the original RBI arcade--and that's all that really matters.

So I take it Gantry got the ONE limerick that was not about my buldge?  Figures.  They were all randomly packaged and then I just grabbed 'em and addressed 'em.

And no, Gan-tree, I was not refering specifically to Vit.  I was refering to the those who post political rants in general (and even so, was saying it in fun).

Your limerick was most dirty and mentioned a lemon party.  It's at the office though so I can't quote it right now.  But I didn't get the bulgeless one...

where can i view the player abilities(power/contact) for this cart?

as for joe dirts question.....this might reqiure making a few carts of mix and match to let the arcade teams face the regular nes teams.

Yes, also somewhere I had an access file attached in the RBI forums, but only can use with the most recent version of Access (I thought I had also put out an Excel file, but last time I searched, I couldn't find it)

It's cool that this cart allows for errors.  One of my pet peeves when playing the arcade game is the lack of BOPs.

I also second the notion that St Louis and New York have great offenses.  However, NY often does not put up very good numbers alot of the time.  I can throw the ball right down the plate against NY and the computer will maybe get 2-4 dingers in a game.  Do they have shitty contact ratings or something?

Although I almost did the improbable with New York against the Computer.  Ending the game with only 10 batters up to the plate.  I got the first 9 across and the 10th batter (Mattingly) only got a single.

St Louis is great and Medwick is an essential sub.  The Gashouse Gang lives!

Houston is ass.

Any chance I can get you to make a page on the wiki to track this?  It's a great resource, wish we would use it more.

I can help with that, once you get started it's pretty easy
