DETROIT -- If only for Spring Training, Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker could be a duo again.
The Tigers hope to know for sure next week whether Whitaker will rejoin the club as a Spring Training instructor. Team officials, including president/general manager Dave Dombrowski and manager Trammell, and the former Detroit second baseman met for lunch Friday during a break in the Tigers' annual offseason organizational meetings, but nothing was finalized.
I love the Tigers. Both in RBI and in real life. They respect their former players and RBI'ers. Trammell, Gibson, maybe Whitaker....it's too good to be true.
Like you said, too bad they can't all suit up again. Maybe they'll take back Jeff Weaver for free.
I think there's some bad blood between Weaver and DD. Weaver had a number of...less than positive things to say about DD while they were both here. I recall after a long rain delay one night Weaver really lit into DD through the media saying the call to postpone the game should've been made MUCH earlier. Not a huge deal, but just one more example of why the two didn't like each other much.
I'd be pretty shocked if Jeff Weaver was ever back with the Tigers. Jared on the other hand... ;)
Weaver is a fuckin' headcase. Watching him pitch reminds me a lot of watching BK Kim pitch every day when he was with the DBacks. When anything went wrong, it of course wasn't his fault, but he always had the look like he was about to cry. That's what I get from Weaver. Lots of talent. No brain, no backbone. Then again, he could prove me totally wrong.
