ive read quite a few threads in my searches here on team rankings, but do you feel there is that great of a difference between most teams in the game (STL/HOU aside).
im inclined to believe that Dirt and Reily, or any other 2 guys with comparable abilities could have all sorts of mixed results when it was put to the test in a best of 5 (2SP/ATG) type series reguardless of who had what team.
Nate went on a kick for a while and used SF exclusively and played decent vs Bos/Det. My thinking was that if nate had that small margin of ability in his favor(since im a tad better than him) that usually seperates us, then things coulda been a different story. I didnt blow him out all that often when i had Bos/Det, and when i was Cal he seemed to have thier number, and could hang around nicely. im just thinking about the cotut next summer and seeing what ppl's opinions are about this.
obviously the cotut is not a best of 3/5 with the same teams so that situation is a hair different.
I agree that there aren't huge differences between the teams, it probably mostly comes down to personal preferences.
another things is that it also comes down to you making good pitches..(no lapses) or getting timely hits in key situations(like when the opponents pitcher starts to tire).
no matter what team has a supposed advantage, it boils down to making good use of that advantage.
it seems everything is circumstancial, but it is way less fun to think that the teams are all equal. it may be more civil, but less exciting. just like legal marijuana.
Good thought, TBT...here's my take on it:
Like most one-on-one things, generally speaking,the difference in player talent is the main determinate of who wins more often than not. However, when you have two players of similar or equal talent, other factors have more of an impact on determining the outcome of the match up:
* streaks (who's hot, who's not)
* teams
* mental lapses
* history (that is, there are some players that just can't seem to get over the hump. for example, noah is a tough competitor, but for whatever reason, i beat him like 18 straight times--usually only by a run or two per game...i believe after awhile, our history was the biggest factor for both of us).
