Title: Love that Bertus
Post by: Gantry on 05/28/02, 05:44:03 PM
I think Joe has something here...

Bert Blyleven has the first shutdown in the history of the dee-nee family.  Never before has a player been shutout in 9 innings before (though we never play curves), but today is the day:

Gantry (Mn) - 9
Jae (SF) - 0

9 innings, 2 hits, 1 walk (hit batsman), 14k's for Bertus.  Krukow is super nasty but he doesn't have any stamina...

that is phenomenal...  throwing a shutout in straight pitch is awsome... the equivilent of a 20k or no hitter for curve style... props to you bert!

To be fair though, it was against Jae (who is a part-time player).  In fact, I slaughtered him in 8 innings the next game and he had no runs in that one either.  But we played about 10 games in the last two days (almost all curves) and he improved tremendously.  Beat me a couple times today and plays a mean Boston.  It was a defining moment for us, but there will always be an asterix...

And forgot to mention it before, but that game was curve pitch Joe.  Jae isn't the greatest player, but even my mother can play straight pitch and not strike out that many times...

Nice to see you playing curves Gantry, Bertus is the man no doubt about it.
