how much do you use them during a game?
if mostly reffering to 2-SP/ATG style.
ive been examing some finer points of my game, and i believe i dont use them enuf. i think i need to not be so stingy with my pitchers.
I use them probably equally. Obviously, your best pitch is one that is located correctly and it helps if it's just a normal pitch so it doesn't sap your pitchers stamina.
I throw fastballs and changeups at any point in the count. I don't care what it is. There definitely is not a formula as what to throw and when. The important thing, as you already know, is to keep your opponent off balance.
I try and stay away from the changeup completely if I know the guy I'm using can't make it drop. For me, the change in speed just isn't enough. I want the ball to drop. The problem with this, as I found in C-Bus, is that if you're playing an RBI stud (GDavis,) he will just let it roll past.
gdavis prolly already has all the pitchers drop ball stats memorized as well.....never swing at a mike scott drop ball, as it seems to only cross the plate for strike once every 5-6 times. i need to get all this memorized myself.
Mike Scott is definitely one of those guys. Same with Krukow and Nando. Gooden every once in a while.
as gi joe once said....knowing is half the battle.
hopefully joe dirt can return my call sometime today....i got some very indepth rbi crap to discuss. ;) its good to learn from the master.
i usually use the drop ball once my pitcher has lost most of his juice to try to get a few extra pitches out of him.

It's critical that the ball does not always drop. Otherwise, the batter will quickly learn to lay off of any knuckler.
It's just a matter of opinion, fknmclane, but I disagree with you on the "change of speed" thing "not being enough." I dominated the straight pitch league solely on Ryan's change of speed knuckler. It can very often be enough.
I guess it depends on where your P is, stamina-wise. If he's still full throttle, the change of speed is enough (also depends on the P, since some of them don't have much change of speed at all). But if he's already throwing slowly, then the batter has time to react to the change of speed...keep those hands back, boys! Damn, that sound perverted. :(
Well, my problem with the "change of speed" deal is that most pitchers whose changeup doesn't drop throw puss so the change isn't all that great. But you make a great point.
