Title: Tough FKN day at the RBI office.
Post by: TbT on 10/22/05, 08:13:42 PM
I got together with the other 2 guys im going to the 06 Cotut with for some pracetice.  I went a horrible 1-5 on the friggin day.   >:(

Overall my pitching wasnt too bad, as i lost 3 games in extra innings...dropped a couple 2-1 efforts in the 10th and 11th and a 5-3 12 inning affair vs Bos.

I did manage to get a blow out win in one game 8-3...only struck out 4 times that game, and had something like 15 hits and runners on base pretty much every inning.  I did get hammered  7-4 vs SF in a game where i missed my spots terribly with Witt for the 1st couple innings and got pounded, and I also dropped another game 4-3 I believe.  we played Cotut style set up with rotating teams.

i was very rusty and my main problem was batting.  not as patient at the plate as i was back in august games we played.  other than the melt down games pitching wise i feel i did fine......and the CAL game after the 2nd inning I only gave up 2 runs the rest of the way.  I manged my pitchers well and seemed to have good luck leaving them in to get crucial outs or knowing when to pull them out.  But my offence was damn horrible.  I am ashamed of this performance.  Chad went 5-1 and brian went 3-3.  I stink.  Looks like I need to spend a good 5-6 hours once a week at Nate's house to get back in playing shape.

I never even opened this thread because I figured it was about Clemens (I believe he got rocked earlier in the night when you posted this)

My advice is gameplan. Pitching is key obviously and with all four pitchers don't be afraid to throw a ton of balls and walk guys. While hitting, try to be patient, but against a guy that throws a lot of strikes, try to attack them early on in the count and make them start to worry which causes them to throw balls.

But first and foremost, stick to your gameplan whatever it is. There's no shame in waiting for your pitch and therefore striking out 10 times or more a game (I strike out a ton in real RBI, i.e. 2 starters per two games, but I also win my fair share), so be aggressive without swinging at everything, and I'd also say try not to hit balls on bad contact swings, other than just fouling them off, try to detect patterns against your opponent, which will only come when you take a ton of pitches.

This is potentially deadly advice...it depends on what team you're playing against, but generally speaking, I suggest staying away from this advice...but if you're facing, say, Mn, walk around Gaetti-Bruno every single time.  Make one of the many slobs beat you.

However, against say, Bo or Dt, don't attempt to throw a ton of balls, lest you get your own stomped on.

i talked to joe about this debachle of a nighta few days ago, and pitching wise i still feel great about this performance(mostly my location on a ton of pitches was great)...basically gave up 2-3 runs in most outtings that night.  my problem was batting..no patience at all, but hadnt seen live pitching ina  couple months.

one thing that i had improved on was knowing where each and every pitch was gonna be placed before each delivery.  this was key, from becoming more accustomed to pitchers.  there was no guessing, just pin point stuff.  sounds like i will be playing some more 2 player rbi here in the next couple weeks.

TBT, there's the difference between you and a player of joes calibre.  You give up 2-3 runs a game, you'll be lucky to win 1 out of 20 against him.
