Should we scratch the POINT SYSTEM??

I just have to say that this is going a little too far.  I think that the point system shouldn't be used and people are taking this too hard.  People are making topics and posting just to do so, in order to 'up' their standings to be a better player in a ROM?!  People are trying to argue with me because sucka put that in the criteria (I hope as a joke).  This is supposed to be fun and for a laugh.

Therefore I propose a different idea like a fantasy draft.  I think we should have 2 hats...1 for hitters and 1 for pitchers.  For this example I'll use the hitters hat.  We should put all of OUR names (that are on a roster) in the hat.  Both the Dee-Nee's and the Dah-Nah's.  And then pick those names (Gantry could do the drawing) and post the results on the website.  THEN, from the order of the drawing we would pick the RBI player that we would like our stats to closely mimic.  If Lips gets the first pick and he wants to be Pat Sheridan, then so be it.  It is easy to do and the most important thing is that it is fun.  The same would then go for the pitchers.

Once the order is updated.  We would have the draft be on a second thread where people can post the player they want.  No one player can be taken more than once.  The whole process should take 3-4 days (probably less) and we can move on with it.

Plus since the stats are going to resemble actually RBI baseball stats, the ROM will be as close as possible to the real game.

We could have the random drawing this Sunday at a certain time and post LIVE results on the webpage.

What do people think?

I like this vitb. Would it be possible to take it a step further and do it like the NBA Lottery? The person with the most posts gets the most ping pong balls--the fewest gets the least.

I suppose we could, but that involves posting and competition and stuff.  I think SUCKA did a great job of setting up the rosters.  And because of that everyone should be on the same playing field.  Plus I KNOW that everyone has a differing opinion of who is good and many people don't even want to have the stats of the best players.  They want to be funny and be Marc Sullivan for example.  lol.  I don't know.  I just think that putting all the players in the hat is best.  Maybe the DAH-NAH's will get the first 4 picks, maybe it will be spread out evenly.  Whatever happens, happens.  And even if I get the last pick and I pick Gary Pettis, it will be fun because I get to see VITB6 up to bat making a clutch double or a game saving stop in the field!

Great Idea!!!

There are a few ways to do a lottery fairly online. First we have to decide how many balls go into the pot, and it should be a power of 10 (10,100,1000, etc.). Then we designate each people their numbers (for example we choose 100 balls & I get 5 - I choose 00-04.) That would give us a list

00-04 Marquis
05-10 Vitb
11-14 GDavis
.
.
.
90-99 Gantry

Then on a weekday we choose the Dow Jones' last 2 digits. If we had chosen this friday,the Dow ended at 8989.05, so 05 is our number. That would give VITB the #1 choice, GDavis the #2, ... all the way down to the last person (me). So Vitb would choose his guy first, GDavis would get the second choice, all the way down to poor old me (Rafael Santana).

In this example if we made it 1000 balls, the winning number would be 905. In any case I've used it before with online leagues, and it works really well.

One other thing, if we let people choose anyone, these will be two all star teams, so maybe we should have some kind of restriction on who we can take. For example after 4 guys are taken, maybe we remove the next 8 best players from the rom??? Or let's say when two #3 hitters are taken, all the #3 hitters are off limits. Although this still wouldn't make even teams, since you would possibly be assembling the 2 best players from every lineup.

Just some thoughts.

Wow... I'm not sure I mentally compotent to understand any of this.  A few brews and I'll settle this issue.  Let me make one thing clear though - apparently the sarcasm was not thick enough in the title of my post "a shameless attempt to up my dah-nah rank."  that was a joke mocking the crazy level this has gone to.  I have to assume that anyone who did a similar thing was also employing sarcasm.  Sarcasm is an art that is lost on some members of our forum who tend to take things a wee bit personal.  I like the lottery system, but I also think that the rom stats should reflect the personalities of the deenees and dahnahs.  I have to say that to this point the collective effort of conceptualizing and now forming complete rosters and lineups has been top notch.  We've got enough brains on here that if cool heads continue to prevail we can work this out.  Dove, the peacemaker.

GDavis

I agree with doveRBI for once (which scares me).  The thread bumping and taco bell debate ***CHECKMATE*** were all meant in good fun.  As I stated earlier, it doesn't really matter to me how good I am in the rom.  I'll probably never play it, since i never play any of the roms.  I should just be equal to GDavis, because that's my username.  Everyone elses stats should be taken from RBI players with similar names.

Example:
DoveRBI = Downing
Sucka Free = Sutton
Gantry = Gagne
VitB = Viola

Not to be overly simple, heavens forbid, but what if we just let everyone choose a player's stats to represent them.  most easily, if they chose a player relative to their position in the lineup and relative to their participation in the league.  for instance i might be like pettis since i lead off, don't have enough participation to warrant mad power, and am very rascally.  see how easy that was... what do you think?

A couple of jesters? In the court of the king! IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE TELLING ME?!?!?!?

Lips

I want Pat Sheridan's stats.  Dee-Nee!!!!
RBI isn't just a game, it's a lifestyle...

No way man!  At least give me the Laundromat...

I actually just read the first post on this thread and i am whole heartedly in that boat.  that is a great idea because we will have great teams, everyone will get a good player and the stats will be actual rbi stats.   Under the point system model we could not account for speed or contact.  I vote for the lottery.

Vit,

 The debate thing was definitly a joke.  I thought all the responses from it were actaully pretty funny.  Great idea by the way.  Lets do yours instead of mine.  It just makes sense and it eliminates bogus forum posts (however I still think that the bulk of them were funny as hell).  I know you are against the lottery style drafting.  I think everyone having equal odds at the top picks isn't fair.  Those who have made this site what it is and those you contribute "quality" to the forms should be reconized in the rom.   However, I am good to go with any decision that is handed down.

As for the dogs, they must choose which pitcher they are.  You should lable dog treats with pitchers name and see which one they eat first.  You guys should video tape it and put it on the web.
