I'm working on researching some new hacks for the 30-Team ROM.  I have another friend who said he'd see what he can do...so I want to gather some information to send to him.

How would you see the following hacks work?

1.) DH hack - I'd like to see this hack only applied when the NL team is home...so somewhere in the ROM it'd track which team is an NL and which is an AL and it would apply the DH hack if NL = home.  Who would it put in as the DH? The first guy on your bench?

2.) Switch hitter - Probably just make the hitter be the opposite hand of the pitcher...so if the pitcher is a Lefty, the hitter is a righty, and vice versa...

Remember, these are not promised, guaranteed, I'm just gathering info in the event this becomes a possibility.

didn't someone already build a switch hit hack into a ROM?  I can't remember if that was an RBI ROM or another baseball game.  I think Nightwulf's editor may also have that hack.

It was achildprodigy but he doesn't sound interested in helping, and I can't just apply his hack to the 30 team ROM.

I think making the top bench guy the DH is fine - that's how RBI 3 does it, at least.  Sure, your batting order will be a bit off ("Why is Matsui batting ninth?"), but it's better than nothing, and unless you implement RBI 2/3-esque pregame lineup ordering, it's not like you can do anything about it.

AL uses DH not NL

May want to check up on the rules there, Congo.

No idea why I wrote NL instead of AL.  I kept thinking about the pitchers in the NL batting (Gallardo just hit a homer the other night) and I had NL on the brain...

please add the base stealing hack that i suggested before the RBI fantasy league started.  if possible, this would work as a threshold selection in the editor.  something like where you could select all players with 138 and above speed to steal bases when computer-controlled.

I forgive you.

Nice work TecmoTurd.  Why is your name TecmoTurd anyway?

Turd has been my nickname since freshman year of high school, given to me by my football coach. I am a regular over at knobbe.org which is the best tecmo forums around. When I came over here, I just kept the same username for consistency.

Possible to add wall height parameters for the fences?  maybe color for the fences too.

I think it would be a good addition to add 2 color choices for each team. I know it probably sounds stupid but I have no idea if it's done yet.

I think the RBI only needs 4 changes.

1.) the ability to trade players would make things much more interesting and fun.
2.) the ability to switch a starter for someone on the bench before the game starts.
3.) all 30 teams would allow for more even matchups to be found.
4.) keeping game and season stats for each player would be amazing but really tough to do, for the season anyways.

I really like what you guys are doing but changing too much could take away what made the original so fun.  For example by expanding the rosters, it would take away the strategy of saving bench guys and you would be able to pinch hit for the pitcher every time he bats.  I'm also not in favor of any DH.

Just my opinion.  When does this new version actually going to come out?  I'm really interested.

#1 is kind of already there - there are editors that can allow you to put whatever teams you want together, and you could edit teams to have the basic effect of making trades.  Turd's 30-team editor has another thread on the front page of the RBI board, and there's already a really good editor for the 10-team original game.

#2 is especially difficult, because it would require a whole new screen - there simply isn't anything like a lineup screen in RBI, so it would have to be made from scratch.  Maybe it could be ripped out of RBI 3, but I don't know how feasible that is.

For #4, you might want to look into Family Stadium '90 - nightwulf, the guy who wrote the original RBI editor above, also wrote a modified version for Family Stadium '90.  It features full season play, with stats (I think), although the gameplay isn't completely identical to original RBI (fielders run much faster to bases; slight jumping and diving; no errors).

For starters, there already is a ROM with all 30 teams.  Keep in mind that any of the hacks that get implemented are not technically for amy specific release, they are for my editor which would allow you to turn hacks on and off.

As for changing the lineup before the game starts, this is to me of lowest priority.  You can already do this with a few clicks of a mouse with an editor, and to your point about adding too much, it would take away from the strategy of pulling guys off the bench for the 64 point power boost...

If you don't like any of the hacks discussed, you don't ahve to use them, I'm just doing what I can to include as much awesomeness as possible to the game.  I still prefer to retain most of the originality, just like I prefer to not play Tecmo ROMS with fumbles lowered, conditions changing more often, jumping/coverage catches removed.  I probably wouldn't even use the DH hack, although I would use the switch hitter hack...nonetheless, I am on a quest to give people as many options as I can possibly find.  Tecmo has a plethora of hacks available, RBI has very little.

Honestly, I could die a happy man now that there's a 30-Team ROM and dirt paths on the field. Everything else is just gravy...

ICPjuggla

What about a "flesh" color that can be set per player not per team. For example all the white guys would be white and the black guys would be black.. Tecmo has that I just think it would be cool to see in RBI...

Turd

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'll let you know what comes of any of this.

ICPjuggla

what about the wiggling bat that they have in FS versions? That would be kinda neat as well. It would add an extra touch to an already awesome game we have going...

Turd

Heh, yeah, that would be cool.  I think FS is freakin' sweet, but we're already balls deep in RBI hacking...no going back now!

Turd

I don't have an ETA, but prepare yourselves to have your souls crushed with the next few line of hacks coming down the pipe.

I know of two confirmed, and if the remaining 3 get completed, bumesauce is the word. Bume, I say.
