so i'm flying out to Minnesota on Monday until Thursday. sometime in this span, Nacho and I WILL attempt 24 hours of RBI with no naps/subs. He doesn't know what the situation in his new apartment will be until sometime tomorrow, so I need to be prepared to get a hotel room if necessary. I am posting this thread so that others may help me with planning, in case I forget things.
Crucial points:
- I need to remember to bring the NES on the plane with me...obviously I am checking my baggage
- If a hotel room is necessary, I need to get one with a fridge in it, we are going to need plenty of liquid refreshment
- I'm not really sure what to do about food at this point, I was thinking something like pizza would work. It's high in carbs to give us energy, and can be eaten fairly easily while playing NES
- Since I lost my digital camera at Chadonis' wedding (more accurately, i left it in the pocket of my tuxedo and then my friends who were going to return it to me lost it, but either way) I will be taking pics(?) of this even with my camera phone.
While we will lose some picture quality due to the phone, it does enable me to quickly email the pics(?) to someone to post them on dee-nee. I'd like to get a few email addresses of people who will be around dee-nee at various points in the day so that we can get a lot of updates onto the site as quickly as possible.
any other things i need to plan for?
Get one of those tubes that truck drivers have so you don't have to stop for urine breaks.
i hope this attempt will be drug free.
too bad you can't take pics? and send them via email while playing rbi...therefore making the entire event invalid.

Quit being a dick head, Joe.
Hey that's Ryno's line!
I didn't like your use of the word, "attempt".
As in the words of the great Yoda:

How about we go to four corners and play 24 hours of RBI again, only this time we each sit in a different state, and the TV sits in one and the NES sits in one?
Or I was thinking maybe we could attempt to play an entire 7 game series while holding in an enima?
Come on buddy, we can find a way.....
BTW, 24 hours of RBI with 2 ppl and no breaks is going to be impossible......
God Speed gentlemen....
I'm moving up to Minneapolis tomorrow... This is gonna be a hectic week between moving, orientation for school, and skipping orientation for 24 hours of RBI.
i feel ya. i'm working mad hours in the next few days, then i go to minnesota for four days, then come back and work as much as humanly possible before the end of the month, then i have to move as well. i can't wait to get sleep in like two and a half weeks.
I just got here about two hours ago. Conversation between my roommate (who I met for the second time just two hours ago):
Nacho: Just so you know, I've got a friend coming into town on Monday.
Roommate: No problem.
Nacho: Did you ever have a Nintendo when you were a kid?
Roommate: My friends did.
Nacho: Did you ever play RBI?
Roommate: Not sure... maybe.
Nacho: Well, my friend and I are planning to play it for 24 straight hours, without stopping.
(silence)
Nacho: So... That's... That's what we do.
Roommate: Do you think you can make it the whole 24 hours?
Nacho: Well, our internet friends made it, but they had three of them, and chicks to bring them food.
(silence)
What circumstances do you have a roommate that you don't really know (guessing school)?

Yeah, I moved here to go to grad school and I didn't know anyone who lived in Minneapolis save for one guy, who knew someone who needed a roommate.
Too bad Kirby died.
do you think your roommate will find me more normal than he would have expected, or less normal?

Not sure. Probably less. He's pretty vanilla.
hey, PM me your address in minnesota when you get a chance...i have some research to do for this week
OK, so as of now we are probably going to start at about 6 AM on our quest. I am about to look at finding a hotel room, because Nacho's roommate doesn't do anything but sit on the couch, and he will probably be annoyed by any noise whatsoever. Any change/update in plans will be mentioned here. and anyone who wants to assist in helping make this a frequency updated occurence, please PM me your email address.

Out of curiousity what exactly does this mean? Does he talk like Carlton on Fresh prince?
I'm gantry@dee-nee.com!
ok so far i got gantry and clampett. in all actuality that will probably be enough, but anyone else who wants to help, please PM me.
we are keeping a log of games played, complete with scores.
we are also going to take a "before" photo and an "after" photo. hopefully other shots in between, they may get bizarre as we slip further into the thresholds of madness.
i think that whenever one of us goes to take a leak/poop, the other needs to get on dee-nee and post their thoughts. this will be clockwork orange type stuff...
i booked a room at the motel 6, we will be heading there early in the morning to get it started. the TV in the room had damn well better have RF input...
Update: We slept in until now (about 9 AM). Maybe it will be better to do this on a good night's sleep...
motel 6...ugh...what a dump.
motel 6 is a dump. No shampoo, no internet, not even a pen. I also managed to leave my razor in chicago so i am starting to look like grizzly adams. Right now nacho is getting his phone, then we are starting. The good news is that there are trucks on the bed.
i just tried to send a pic text to gnatry tbt and clampett. I got an error so i assume that one of the email addresses are wrong. Did any of you get my pic of our rbi setup?
good luck gentlemen.
ok we got dial up courtesy of AOL. nacho and I are starting NOW, 10:39 AM on 8/22/06. one small step for man, one giant leap backwards for mankind.
I shall update the news...
most solid, but it would have been better to stop at 6am rather than 1030 am. I can imagine those hours when the sun is coming up are going to be brutal.
I also think we need a log of # of games played per hour throughout the tourney. This is to make sure that you guys are consistant and don't get sloppy later on (start out at 8 games an hour only to have it slip to 1 game an hour 20 hours into the fray).
ok we are playing series style. i will always be houston, nacho will always be StL. I just won the first series, 4 games to 0. Mike Scott has thrown 17 2/3 innings so far without being scored upon.
we are keeping a tally of the score of every game, as well as the winning pitchers. we are also making a note of any/all extra inning games, as well as whenever a complete game is thrown.
i had a sweet comeback in the 9th inning of game one...but i won't get into it, we have too much RBI to play.
I insist that you at least once go with the Gantry Houston lineup:
1) Nokes
2) Cruz
3) Garner
4) Davis
5) Bass
6) Doran
7) Reynolds
8) Terry Puhl Day
I guarantee a victory...
strassy here...series 2 is in the books. i took it 4 games to 1. mike scott's scoreless streak ended at 29 IP. we have played 4 straight one run games.
okay, nacho here. I really need to get my head out of my ass, as i have made several fielding errors and mental mistakes. it's time for a turn around, and a change of luck, as i keep losing these one-run contests.
that is all for now.

Is this Vit's fantasy team? How did Nokes get on Houston?
Series 3 is in the books. I won it 4 game to 1. Amazingly, in game 3 of this series, Tudor had a perfect game through nine innings, though the score was still 0-0, and we had to go to extras. Billy Hatcher ripped a shot off the wall in inning 10, but was thrown out at second (Tudor faced the minimum through ten and went 11 total). I won the game in 13 innings on a two run homer (I forgot who hit it... Maybe Clark).
Some notes so far... GDavis has been awesome for Strassy, and MScott has been even awesomer, giving up only two runs through 45 IP or so. Amazing.
On my part, I have gotten ZERO production from McGee and Pendleton, having no home runs by either player through 14 total games. Dah-Nah.
So far, almost three hours in the books and Strassy leads the total series 9 games to 5.
14 games in three hours = 112 games in 24 hours! You're on pace to reach an unthinkable mark. Can you guys reach 100?
This should be a puhl.
nacho was slightly off in his time estimate. it was roughly 3.25 hours when he made that post, so we are not really on track for 112 games.
we just completed our 4th series and 20th game. i took this one 4 games to 2. here are win totals for each pitcher thus far
Ryan 7 wins, 4 complete games
Cox 5 wins
Scott 4 wins, 2 complete games
Tudor 2 wins, 1 complete game
Kerfeld 2 wins
Worrel 1 win
Smith and Dayley = bags of ass
coleman has been stealing bases like a madman, at least one per game. doesn't really surprise me, he is a sneaky bastard. he cannot be thrown out, ever.
terry puhl has been a beast, and nacho is scared of phil garner.
i tried gantry's lineup (assuming Nokes meant Lopes) and didn't really like it. I prefer having Hatcher in there over Reynolds, although I did win that game.
So far I'm winning, 13-7.
How can you prefer Hatcher over Reynolds? You saying you keep Doran in but take Reynolds out?
Gantry we want answers as to why you think Nokes should/could lead off for Ho.
Lopes, not Nokes. Enjoy!

Well, they do look alike...
Even at the new rate, that's still 103 games in 24 hours. It's going to be close!
Nacho here. We just finished our fourth series, and Strassy won 4-3. It was a rather high-scoring series (especially for Strassy) considering our teams.
It is getting a bit more difficult. It is hard to concentrate on the games, as we have both gone into auto-pilot. The last few games of this series were actually easier than the first few, as we each drank an energy drink and got a renewed focus.
And Attez, the posting of updates and keeping of some stats may seem like a waste of time, but we see it as a way to keep our sanity and have something to look forward to, helping keep us motivated.
MORE UPDATES
we just hit the 30 game mark. i'm up 2-1 in this series, and 19-11 overall. we just got some pizza which nacho is loudly eating. we are taking a quick break and heading back into the fray.
also, nacho wanted me to point out that we have yet to listen to anything but the RBI music. it's pretty much impossible to listen to anything else though...this room has no fkn alarm clock, so there's no radio. nacho is the only person on earth without MP3s on his computer, so that's out. i have about 100 on my phone, we may listen to those as desperation sets in.
What if I had an impromptu Taco Tuesday?
What if I called you up and held my phone up to my computer speakers?
Nacho here. Another series in the books, and still going strong. I won this one 4-3. The games remain competitive, and half (17 out of a total of 34 games) have been one-run games.
It is vital that people remain online tonight and post so that we still have a crowd to please if we are to keep up this mission.
What's the count on total games?
This is difficult.

i'm sorry strassy, I dont mean to be a nay sayer...its just I really think this is impossible...and I actually want you to finish so that Briznock and I can one-up you within a few weeks....
Just caught up on this and I am wishing you both luck. You will need it in the early morning hours.
it's actually been nacho posting under my name for the past few hours. we are at 42 games now, i just won a series 4-3. nacho thinks it is a good idea to have dee-nee'ers call us and we will talk to you on speaker phone. if anyone wants to, call me, or PM me for my number if you don't have it.
Keep up the good work boys, people should be calling them. Not me of course as I hate the phone but everyone else...
We need updates...
update: don't give your dog advil lest he might die.
Nacho reporting. Almost 12 hours completed. About to start game 49. Strassy and I have been going through hot and cold streaks with our hitting. I shut him out about three or four games out of four or five, and he did the same to me the next four games. He is ahead in the total series by approx. five games or so.
It has been difficult to play, but each red bull seems to help give us the boost we need. It would also help if we could talk to anybody, since we have absolutely nothing else to take our mind off of the RBI music. I have found that concentrating on other things has been helping my RBI skills, as it helps me relax.
We are on a fairly good pace, and haven't really slowed down much yet...
There they are.
Nacho here. It is 10:52 PM, and we just completed our 50th game. Strassy has won 30 of them. Bastard. We are on pace for about 98 or 99 games (our last game went 12).
We have both noticed a very large amount of BOPs overall, undoubtedly because our players are very tired. We have also only had on errant throw out of 50 games, and even that was with nobody on base.
Back to the grind...
Are you guys playing with the infield fly rule?
50 fkn games of RBI in a row, I couldn't make it...
in the top of the 8th inning in game 52, Denny Walling hit a solo home run to make the score 6-0. why is this important, you ask? because i have now hit a home run with every position player on the houston squad. still no pitcher home runs, though.
nacho still needs home runs with ozzie smith, tom herr, curt ford, john morris, jose oquendo the baseball pirate, and steve lake in order to get a home run with every cardinal.
any ideas on other "challenges" i can complete to keep things fresh?
Rules
1. strait pitch pitching rules
2. defense cannot throw the ball when fielding, until your players foot touches dirt
3. defense cannot catch a fly ball that would hit the ground before the white line that begins the outfield
3-b. your fielders entire body must be behind the 'outfield line', in order to make the catch
3-c. your fielder is allowed to make a catch while touching the infield only if he 'snags' the ball and his glove is entirely over the 'outfield line'
4. all swings must be 'chipshots'
5. you win the game if you are winning by the number of innings completed, except after the first inning
6. if you make a 'bop' while touching the dirt, you are not allowed to throw the ball until you touch the dirt with full possesion of the ball
7. if the offensive team hits a 'walzie', they must forfeit the rest of the inning by allowing their players to strike out
8. any violation of a rule during play, results in an automatic HR by the next batter
8-b. if the player hits a HR over the fense in this instance it still counts for the defensive penalty
9. any rule you make up is legal during play, for the rest of the game
9-b. the rule cannot take back a play in any way, it is enstated for the rest of the game only
9-c. the rule cannot contridict, in any way, a previous rule made, or any of the original rules
10. there are no extra innings, after the ninth inning a tied game is decided by the tiebraker rules
Tiebraker Rules
1. whoever drank more beers during competion is the winner
2. the player with the smaller penis is the winner
3. the player with the largest areola (area around the nipple) diameter is the winner
4. whoever owns the NES is the winner
5. coin toss
to keep ourselves sane, we are playing "marry/fuck/kill", where you list 3 girls, and hypothetically have sex with one, marry one, and kill the last one. after lord knows how many combinations, we got to roseanne chicks...becky #1, becky #2, and darlene.
NACHO SAYS HE WOULD BANG DARLENE OUT OF THAT THREE! SICK
i'd marry darlene, but only because i saw how caring she was towards david. #2 becky gets raw dogged big time. nacho is complaning that i made this information public, so here he is to weigh in:
Nacho here. I chose to marry Becky #2, because she has the best personality and she is the hottest. Darlene gets the nod to F over the first Becky because she cut the cheese in one of her Jr. High classes.
Oh yeah, we've played 56 games and are now starting number 57.
Darlene is a lesbian in real life. Dyke city. So that's the obivous fuck choice.
well, nacho is living up to his name and sallying out. we played 60 games and he said he was done. in his eyes we got 60/100...60%, a D-, so a passing grade in the grand scheme of endurance RBI. myself, i wasn't ready to call it quits. i don't know if i had 100 in me, but I know that I can go longer than this. so i guess this is as far as we got. if i can wake him up before 10:30 tomorrow morning we may try and fit in more games.
i think i called it that he would quit before i did...unfortunately my predictions turned out to be accurate. overall mood...not mad, but a little disappointed.
I won 35 to this point, he won 25. i will eventually tally total offense numbers and pitchers by win.
i flew too close to the sun on wings of pastrami.
i'm calling the offically count of 14 hours, 49 minutes of nonstop RBI.
You guys made it to 60. Dont quit!
WAKE UP! WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I believe the problem was support. Two men out on an island of RBI will go stir crazy, they need diversions. The GoReds team had the right idea: have people come over, feed you, talk to you, keep your spirits up. It is unpossible to move to a new city, shack up at a shitty hotel, and then bang out 100 games of RBI. Can't be done by mere mortals. Especially without music.
A solid attempt, gentlemen. 60 is an impressive feat and one for the record books. Next time, it needs to be approached with a better support plan.
judging from the overall record between you two, we can safely say that nacho has trouble scoring in all arenas of life.

you didn't start looking at each other all sexual-like did you?
Here is a statisical analysis of the 60 games that we did play:
Wins: Strassy 35, Nacho 25
By Pitcher: Ryan 20, Cox 12, Scott 11, Tudor 11, Kerfeld 4, Worrell 2
Dayley and Smith remained bags of ass
Nacho scored 115 runs, or 1.91 RPG. Strassy scored 160 runs, or 2.67 RPG. Although Nacho did have the only 10 run scoring output, he was also shut out an amazing 16 times. Strassy was shut out a paltry 10 times by comparison. Nacho scored 5 runs or more only 6 times out of the 60 games. Strassy did it 12 times, still not that great.
There were 24 one-run games.
To all of the naysayers, I tell you to play ten games of RBI in a row. Then repeat five more times. See if you can go any further. It is just too hard.

hey guys, my congratulations. 60 games is no small task and you carried yourselves longer than I thought, at a very good pace.

I think this further solidifies our playing for 24 hours several weeks ago.

I'd be willing to wager that Octo and I have played over 30 games in a night before.
This is more disappointing than when my penile inplant malfunctioned
i say this was a success. 60 games is a great accomplishment.
they didnt reach the desired goal, but damn, they have set the benchmark for goreds and briz to shoot for.

This is Nacho (on Strassy account again). I was SL, Strassy was Ho. Yes, I realize SL is better than Ho (in most people's opinion). Strassy is good at utilizing Ho's bench, and he is great with Nolan Ryan. On top of that, I lost the first seven games while I was trying to get my bearings, so that hurt me a ton.
Sixty games is definitely beatable, but there is no question in our minds that we could have topped 24 hours if we'd had a third man in the rotation. It just wasn't in the stars to go the full 24 on this occasion with two men.
Okay, that tells us quite a bit right there....that's why I asked.
this is funny, because we are disappointed that they played 14 hours and 49 minutes of a video game, but not in the normal way people are disappointed that people would play a game for 14 hours and 49 minutes.
Wasn't meant to be... But still, 60 games of RBI in a row has to be a record so you guys are still winners in my book.
Impressive feat. I think my thumbs would start to bleed after game five.
Next time, I would recommend hiring hookers to break the monotony, as well as achieve two goals at once (http://forums.dee-nee.com/index.php?topic=1194.0).

Likewise, Octo.
What was the pattern here anyhow? 3 games an hour?
I figure we could set up a webcam for like justin.tv or whatever for verification, a cigarette break an hour, not start drinking until about hour 20, play 7 game series.
I'm kinda excited just thinking about doing this.
basically, as soon as one game was over, we moved onto the next one. The only stopping we did was for bathroom breaks.
Well, both me and Octo enjoy peeing outside, so cigarette breaks can certainly be considered bathroom breaks.

I was actually justing thinking about this a few days ago. Weird. May is a possibility. We should be able to beat 70. Last time I forgot my phone and drove all the way back home from the hotel, and it killed like an hour. We must persevere.
fail
Nacho and I are talking about trying again once he gets back from Germany. We figure if we try in Chicago, we'll have more of a support network than we did last time (which was no support network). Plus, there's nothing cooler than two guys in their 30s playing Nintendo for 24 straight hours.
I approve
As do I. Go for it!

Sounds like a fest in the making
Gantry and I were texting on Saturday and he mentioned the idea of the two of us doing 24 hours of RBI for charity. The tentative date is July 11th. We will be much better rested and in better environs (his place or mine, I assume his since it is world RBI headquarters, but who knows), but we are old as hell. Let's see what we can do!
Why not roll this into the fest?
I'm not totally against that though I think it would have more "impact" as a two person feat. Because there's no way just me and Tempo will play for 24 hours at a fest, too much going on.
That said, I'm fine with shifts, having everyone play for a few hours and keeping RBI rolling for 24 hours straight. Beauty of that is more people would be involved and can spread the word and hopefully get to the $1000 goal.
What say you Tempo? Selfishly I'd like to pull the feat off but in terms of the charity it would make sense to do it during the fest and get everyone to raise money.

I think there is zero chance that we achieve it two-man style during the fest. Too many distractions, as you said.
I also suspect that two people doing it will raise more money, as it sounds more impressive than a bunch of guys just playing. People could just post "hey two guys I know are doing this for charity, donate" and I think it'd get some traction simply because it's a pretty unique event. But I could be wrong
I think most people who donate will know us personally and really aren't too interested in how difficult the feat is. Well they probably are interested but I don't think the degree of difficulty is the deciding factor for the bulk of people who'd donate. If we have 12 people actively fundraising and getting personally involved, that's 6x more of a potential donor pool and $$$ to go around.
Then again, it would also be a big distraction and time suck during the fest. Do people really want to play 3 straight hours of RBI at 4am during a fest? Do two people want to miss the meal and two other people want to leave the bar to come back to play? I think logistically it's probably too much to ask for during a fest and would likely devolve into drunken debauchery and people welching on their commitments.
So I'm leaning toward keeping it a two man event. If you are going to the fest and would like to jump on board, even if it means missing certain fest events, then speak up.
If you live stream so i can watch I'll double my donation.
Live streaming is planned
I'll donate. Where is the money going btw?
Great idea fellas.
I think this could get some reaction beyond people that we know, as it's a somewhat unique way to raise money, while also being something almost everyone can identify with (video games from their childhood)
Money will be going to charity:water - I'll get a campaign page up by the end of the week(end)
Never done before but I'm pretty sure getting it on twitch won't be too tricky. A live stream would help out, people can watch the whole time.
To make it entertaining and get more people invested in it, make the loser donate 50 bucks or something. So it's you guys actually trying. Then we can all place bets on here with a portion going to the charity.
Strassy, are you any good? I know Gantry is good as I've played him. I feel that if I wager, I'm at a handicap as I'm unfamiliar with your game. Please rate.

I would rate myself as a very strong pitcher but a mediocre hitter. For someone who rarely plays curve pitch, Gantry is surprisingly good at it. I know he prefers straight pitch but there's no way I can play that way for more than a couple of games.

To make it entertaining and get more people invested in it, make the loser donate 50 bucks or something. So it's you guys actually trying. Then we can all place bets on here with a portion going to the charity.
I'm fine by that, though I intend to donate quite a bit more in any case. What would we take bets on, overall record in the 24 hours?
We should also figure out all the various tournaments, styles, etc to play as I'm sure it'll get monotonous doing any one thing for too long. 1sp, 2sp, slurve, - if people have odd rules post them here. I'm sure we'll try anything given how many games we'll be playing.
You'll need to devote 2-4 hours to each of the following:
slurve
straight pitch
curve
1sp
2sp
1rp only
tettleton
Shit like that. Maybe a whole game with only bunting. Stupid shit is the only way to make it happen.
I was thinking we could replay all the playoff series as well

This is gold, Jerry. May have to try this.
Tempo - would you want to dip into the realm of emulation? Using your power pak and playing on the original NES of course, but we could really mix it up. Maybe a ROM of all Spike Owen vs all Al Pedrique? If you'd rather stick to the OG that's totally fine...

Mix in some RBI 2 or 3? That seems slightly less sacrilegious than emulation, although I was thinking that you guys weren't huge fans of the sequels.
I'd be down with that as well, though Tempo gets 51% voting rights on sequels and custom ROMs.

I honestly don't think I've ever been awake for 24 straight hours.
This is pretty great. I'll definitely donate. Honestly, if I wasn't going to be in Atlanta that weekend, I'd be tempted to drive up and and run the stream and live stats.
Heaven vs Hell game!!!!! I'll tune in for this and donate based on the number of non-strikeout outs.
Probably need to update the teams before then though. Might even add a Dee-Nee member (has this been done? and if not, how in the hell has it not.) team to the ROM or just have people request their team and position... Will delve into this on my day off tomorrow.
Tempo may not want to do ROMs though, he's a bit of a purist. That decision is his...
I've never understood the Heaven vs. Hell rom, but I've also never looked at it too closely. I do not oppose ROM usage in this case. I have a ROM of the worst teams of all time that I created that can also be used. I think we should also play a best of seven series in which every hitter has the same ability as a pitcher.

My Tecmo vs RBI facebook page has like 800 likes. I'll have to get something posted on there and work a few other forums. as it gets nearer.
Absolutely, definitely counting on Dee-Nee to spread the word. Between you generous fucks and our social networks I think a grand will be doable. Charity:water is cool because they tell us exactly where your money is going and send email upates with pictures, gps locations, etc. Gets you more involved directly with the charity and your money.

Up to $460, thanks to Lips, Nacho, and one of my co-workers. Almost halfway there!
Up to $530. Any chance we can get TBT to post about this on his site? Might get some more donations and/or people who would want to view part of the stream.
Can the stream be a live webcam act? Like I can submit requests for you to act out, perhaps a butthole fingering or self-pleasure? That would entice me to donate.
We will listen to all offers
So Gantry, I am going to assume you are going to create a twitch account for this so i can follow along right?
And why arent any of these rotten pieces of shit donating? still $430 short of a grand. Donate you worthless pieces of shit.
Does Twitch have some kind of a comment box, where people who are watching can...make comments?
There's a live chat.
And everyone should be able to hear you guys yucking it up while playing. There really is no excuse not for having it on twitch.

Really poor move on the part of the Charity:Water folks. I can't believe they didn't conceive that somebody might want a longer time frame in which to raise money.
They did consider it but it all has to do with the way they procure funding:
http://support.charitywater.org/hc/en-us/articles/3521-Can-I-extend-my-campaign-end-date-
Since they have to get funds for projects well in advance they have to do quarterly cutoffs. Understandable and we could start another campaign if we really wanted to as well.
Since I napped for 3 hours after work and am going to be up all fkn night I will likely get a twich account started today as well.
Got a Twitch account, but I'm starting to think that it's not the best option. Twitch livestreams (in terms of watching the game itself) work with systems that have twitch support either built in or installed - like newer consoles and PCs. Seems like people who do older console streams do it via their PC and an emulator - which isn't in the cards for us. I think maybe a justin.tv type approach may be best - basically we're going to do a shitty simple webcam stream with likely piss poor audio. Plus I'm worried about seeing the lines on the CRT unless I can make my shitty webcam match the refresh rate of my 25 year old Proscan CRT.
Whatever I end up doing, prepare to be disappointed...
Could we be miked up? Just spitballing here
We'd have to get headsets or pin on mikes on us to do that, but yeah. I have neither though, but mics are cheap
Maybe a Google Hangout is the best way to do it, going to do some testing with that. YouTube has a livestream feature as well, probably integrates with hangouts if I had to guess. Hangsouts is fairly simple and people could interact if they wanted, get people via webcam/mike yelling shit at us the whole time. Or they can have a link and just leer watch...
But since we're essentially using a camera to get the stream content as opposing to rebroadcasting something in digital form, Twitch probably ain't the best choice.
Enabling my YouTube login for live streaming was simple enough, I can create an event with a few clicks.
Requires a browser plugin and I want to do on my laptop to see if I can get a good shot of the TV as well. Think I'll set it up for a time when dee-nee'ers can join in and make sure the shit works.

I just got a Luau rescheduled because of this. The powers of RBI run deep.

Of course not, didn't expect them to. Anyone who comes can post score updates, etc, blurbs every hour while there.
Its my daughters' birthday and the party is that day. I plan have it streaming live in another room for my brothers and maybe uncle to check out. So lets make sure to have as much cursing, drinking, debauchery as possible. I'll join in at some point for some High Lifes.

Tempo - should we do a completely independent second project page or do you think we got all the donations we'll be getting? I'm thinking of doing a second one with a goal of $650 to put us at a total of $2000. Pretty annoying you can't edit campaigns after they end though, won't be able to link to the second campaign nor can I make a link to the livestream. Oh well I guess that's what social media is for...

So I was looking at receipt from the donation and noticed the charity has an office in New York city. Now it says right on the email that 100% of my donation goes to water projects. Do they get other corporate donors or something for all the overhead costs? I know Gantry knows his charities and that this must be a good one. The NYC office just made me think the guy running this charity is making a million bucks a year or some shit.
New York City?!
They run separate fundraisers for the overhead costs, every single penny of normal donations go towards the water projects in the field. They even cover the credit card / PayPal fees if you donate that way.
Where can we go to donate to the overhead costs?

Just posted it in one of my whatifsports leagues. Hopefully that gets another donor or two.
Darky threw in $50, my favorite Swede...
Lest anyone ever hate on whatifsports again, it's netted us $90 in donations up to this point. It's funny how most of my good friends in real life know about this, yet hardly any have donated. Strangers on the internet can't cough up money fast enough.
Thanks ryno! I'm counting on dee-nee to spread the word and link to the livestream on Saturday, assuming I can make a stream work that doesn't look like boiled ass. Think we can get to the $650 on page #2 and therefore 2 grand total.
My bank called the other day about a "questionable" transaction. The donation was in question and I explained that I made the donation and so on. So if the money took a bit to get through, now it's known! I may post the link on FB and we'll see if any more money flows in.

Worried about syncing up the Zorba TV refresh rate on the CRT with the one on the camera, hopefully I can do 60hz so the TV is watchable.

I think Tempo would call it a Sox game
Up from the "nap" - all in all it was a fun time. I'd say only the last 3 hours or so were really all that bad in any way. Having the PowerPak and switching up games made this infinitely better than if we stuck to the original NES RBI the whole time. We played RBI2, RBI3 and a whole bunch of various Japanese versions and custom ROMs throughout. The support from everyone who came was a big help as well - Lips and Sperling came by the night before, which of course led us to playing Trivial Pursuit until 1am.
Once we started Lips was around until about 2pm, Carly was by a little after that, Tempo's brother stopped by then Tempos friends Paul/Stu/Mark (aka mcflykindofguy) came for the evening session. Having people and the record player and the stream etc turned really into a fun affair.
Never started my day at 7pm on a Sunday, this should be interesting.
First things first, I need to figure out why my fucking tube TV stopped working the night before. Though while I know a bit about electronics CRTs scare the fuck out of me because of the huge capacitors in them. I'm determined to get it fixed though because it's the perfect TV for video games any my VCR, which I still use for movie watching.
Made it up after sleeping for three hours and was only a few minutes late to the Cubs/Sox game. Of course, the White Sox getting two hit and Jake Arrietta of all people hitting a home run dampened that. Stu's dad was doing the "McLane/Diamondbacks" face grab move several times throughout the game.
I came home and fell asleep around six. I was really hoping to sleep until at least ten, then wake up and do an assignment that's due for grad school tomorrow. Instead I'm up now for some horrible reason. I guess I'll figure this out somehow...
Tempo - have a stash of your stuff, we'll have to get together next weekend and trade off. Are the raisins and peanuts mine? Got the book, your backup NES and that drywall spackle. Will probably throw in a couple records for you to give listens to, a record swap is a quality idea.
the raisins and peanuts are mine, but I felt weird taking them, so they are your's unless you don't want them.
Are you going to be in the city next weekend? I will be Friday night, but I may had to Milwaukee to help McFly look for an apartment on Saturday and I'll be at Arlington Park Sunday.
For the raisins:

Oooh, I'll take the nuts & raisins. I think I'll be around Friday but not positive. I'll just keep the stash in the trunk and we'll trade on next visit, certainly nothing urgent. At worst I'll give back at the fest.

The 2nd set of our donations:
Your money was sent to Malawi!
You ran a fundraising campaign and because of your hard work, people in Malawi will soon have clean water to drink. We wanted to let you know that work is underway.
The Water Crisis in Malawi
Malawi is one of Africa's most densely populated and least developed countries. Most people here live in the tropical countryside where water is scarce. As a result, many women and children spend hours of their day walking to collect it.
Kids in Malawi face a high chance of malnutrition and water-related disease before they reach the age of five. Access to clean drinking water and improved sanitation can drastically reduce both risks.
The Language Spoken
The national language of Malawi is English. The most common language in the rural areas where our local partner, Water for People, works is Chichewa. In Chichewa, the word for water is: Madzi.
The Local Bites
Malawi is known for fine tea and delicious fish from Lake Malawi, the ninth largest lake in the world. A common meal includes porridge-like staple dish Nsima, made from maize flour and water, with relishes (side dishes) and piri piri chili sauce.
The Plan
Thanks to the mycharity: water community, Water For People is busy working on 70 new and 10 rehabilitated drilled wells.
In the Summer of 2017, when the projects are complete, we'll collect GPS coordinates, photos and other details about each community to show you the impact your campaign made in Malawi. See an example of the report you'll receive when your project is ready.
The first set of donations helped to build a well in Ethiopia for 220 people, thanks a ton everyone. Here are some details:

Update: Nolan Ryan had a no hitter against this guy in the bottom of the 9th (15 strikeouts), then gave up a pinch homer to Marc Fkn Sullivan
Stinky Sullivan!
