I would like to get as many questions as possible into the RBI FAQ. Please chack it out:
http://dee-nee.com/rbi/faq.shtml
And come up with some of your own questions that you feel should be on there. I would like to add at least 10 more questions in the next week or so. ..
Also, check out the questions reagarding player-created fules and let me know if you play by rules that aren't listed there.
http://dee-nee.com/rbi/faq.shtml#RULES
1. The clock... does it actually keep time?-->yes
2. the tettleton... does it work?
3. unhittable at 27 mph... why?
4. do subs have a worse fielding percentage than starters?
5. why does the ball go through the wall at the foul pole?
thats all for now, i will think of some more.
Some good ones in there, keep em coming...
Added the clock one already today. I should probably make a general "what are the different swings" question where I can include the tettleton, retreat, push, inside-out etc. Not exactly sure what you mean by the unhittable at 27mph question...
The glitch should make a question, where I can link to the glossary...
what about the advance swing which could be glossed as the custer or the tet offensive. take your pick... it works on the outside pitch.
as far as the 27 mph goes, if you leave your pitcher out there long enough(without getting shelled) they will start throwing the ball at a speed of 27 mph... which might look tasty is next to impossible to get wood on it. why? who knows. give that one a try...
that pitch is tough because it just throws your timing off and you cant get the fat piece of the bat on it....but if you do catch up to it and get the timing, its like hitting off a tee for these guys
there are only a few questions that i had for creators of the game
1) how can men with no knees run?
2) why do they book it right after they get out...why cant they run like that all the time
3) who is paying the umps to call a shot through the wall a homerun, yet a ball that may curve foul after it physically leaves the ball park not a home run?
4) where on earth did they get the color scheme for the angels?
5) since when does don baylor have A speed?
6) do you hit better after a homerun? that sound taht comes off the bat when the next hitter gets a piece of one makes it out to be true, and ive always had sucess....has anyone else noticed that?
don baylor might be listed as "A" speed but that must be a misprint for he is one slow sonofabitch...
as for the booking it off the field, i think they are rolling off the field, crying no less.
and that din that is made by the batter following is the crowd. if you notice, the batter following a homerun will always receive a cheer from the crowd no matter where he hits the ball as long as he makes contact... he could even bunt and the crowd will roar.
no body knows where the angels color scheme came from.
These are some good ones, keep em coming. I'll take down a new set over the weekend. And be sure to look out for the easier questions we might take for granted. Questions with hard facts are easier to do...
Definitely adding a "Why do the players cry when they get out?"
i have a bit of a question...is the "hold up" while you throw pitch a change-up, a sinker or a knuckleball.....there is great dispute in the household about what to call it....i tend to call it a sinker...but the "diiddliddledooo" sound of it would make me think its a knuckler...any thoughts?
We always call it the "slowball" or "drop pitch" - both of which aren't pitches in real baseball. If I had to pick one, I would say a sinker because it lands in front of the plate. Though it does looks like a knuckleball... Very good question indeed
id go with the sinker too....and the man with the best sinker in the game is one mike scott on houston...that thing will drop way into the 7th innning.....
one more question i have is who are the players modeled after??....my vote goes for john kruk...however t has chimed in and called them all white tony gwynns...i would accept either of those answers.....is the FAQ worthy?
how do you get a RBI arcade version??......any suggestions?...does it need to take quarters or can it be rigged?...there is so little i know......
white tony gwynn's huh... what are you saying gwynn is fat... okay he is... however, if there is a situation in which a basehit is needed, i would take him over anyone else that has played in the last 50 years.
as for the pitch... why dont we say that it is a split fingered fastball... or a fork ball for they both drop out of the zone.
Our arcade machine that we have we got on ebay. It doesnt require quarters either. We open the box on the front and there is a little lever that you push and it will give u up to 9 credits. My biggest complain about the machine is it will unpause itself after a length of time. So there is no going to the bathroom or answering the phone during a game.
about how much did that sucker cost you??....i want to start saving for my next big purchase.....
That pitch could be classified as a forkball or spit or sinker. But sometimes it doesnt sink at all. It just floats in the strike zone like a KNUCKLE BALL.
Ill have to get back to you on that one, but it was at least $500.
shipping was almost as much as the machine if i remember correctly...
Burnzky makes a good point - it is simply a knuckler if it crosses the plate and a sinker if it drops. Not perfect, but a good enough explanation to make the FAQ....
And our game cost $207 from EBay, but was over $150 to ship (thank you Canada)...
is that sarcasm or are you saying $150 is alot... i know pines paid more than that to get ours and it came from nebraska... which might be more rural than canada.
cripes...but i think it would be worth it...gonna take a little savin.....
You guys have the full-sized one, that might be the difference. $150+ for shipping is a lot of money in my book...
That slow pitch is definitely a fork ball, nothing more, nothing less. That is why Mike Scott is the best at it. That is exactly what he threw. The only reason it flutters is because if it didn't, it would just drop out of the strike zone without warning and would be the most deadly pitch of all time. Don Baylor is not slow at all. He can swipe a base at any time. I would say it is more like B+ speed.
i never said baylor was slow... i said he wasnt a fast "a" speed. b speed would be more like it... he cant steal a base and that usually determines the "a" speed players.
Our machine is a standup I think the final bid was 375, but shipping was a little over 200. Then something wasn't working right, so I had to ship part back, another 25 dollars. So about 600.
For about 2 weeks it sat in our gameroom collecting dust, I never thought it was going to work. It works great but Joe doesn't like to stand up and play, so it doesn't get played as much as the Tengen.
that and we dont fit at the same time... it is made for a person 5 feet tall and under.
Aboot the FAQ: Do you think Ozzie should be listed as one of the fastest, or maybe that Ugly bastard Willie Mcgee, instead of Davey Lopes? And I think the Rocket should be listed along with Nolan Ryan and Senor Smoke for the fastest pitchers, because I hurled one at 102 mph yesterday with him in the 4th inning.
i definately think that clemens is on the same level with ryan and senor smoke... garelts can also get it up there at that speed.
i think coleman and raines are the two fastest in the game with ozzie right behind them.
grelts can throw the heat, but he also has less action than the chess club in junior high.....
ozzie, willie and most of the cardinals are really fast....however, i still think that raines, coleman and lopes are the quickest....they are all A speeds....for some reason, tony qwynn is fast too...which is impressive for his build
How do you throw one of those pitches that hits the dirt?
back when this game was made, gwynn was a speedster believe it or not... he was the starting point guard for sdsu and was drafted in the nba... however, knee problems and an apetite have led his belt size to increase over the years.
craig, to throw the splitter you push up while pressing a. however, some pitchers dont have that pitch so you have to be careful... if it doesnt drop, it is very hitable.
Thanks. I've been wondering how to do it.
According to the RBI manual, throwing a wobbler that crosses the plate is a kunckleball and the one that drops in a sinkerball. I'll put them in the FAQ as such...
Never did get to writing up the qustions this weekend, holidays and final four took a toll on the freetime. Expect a bunch of new questions later this week...
how about those whosiers... nobody had them in their pools. i think they will beat maryland cause they have beat everyone else.
Check the main page for more details, but I added 3 questions to the FAQ today...
here are a couple more questions...
why do the defensive players run faster to bases than they do when they are chasing the ball?
why cant the fielders throw the ball to the bases in the air... yes, i know they can if you throw a rainbow but we all know that is not the fastest way.
The only questions I can put in the faq are ones I can actually answer. Many of the questions people are giving are good questions and funny, but I need to be able to answer it to put it in the FAQ...
But keep em coming..
here's one you might be able to answer... why are the angels a softball team... they cannot hit in curve style.
I've noticed on the Atari version, when you make a quick throw they usually make it in the air more often then the Tengen, but the whole game is quicker so they probably have to.
the processor in the atari version must be faster than the tengen version... of course i am no computer guy.
the stats in the atari version are exagerated compared to the tengen one... i think we have the ratio of every hr in the tengen is worth 1.5 in the atari.
I've got one to add:
How does a blind man know when to stop wiping his ass?

don baylor might be listed as "A" speed but that must be a misprint for he is one slow sonofabitch...

i never said baylor was slow... i said he wasnt a fast "a" speed.
Gwynn3k may have gotten away with this for almost 5 years, but I'm calling him out on it now
The world of RBI knowledge was very rudimentary in 2002, we've reached a new era...
I am impressed that the science of RBI has begun incorporating linear regression techniques (Stock). Amazing.
