2007 Dee-Nee RBI Championship
Today is the day of the 2007 Dee-Nee RBI Championship. Four drunken idiots will be competing for the top prize, the Dee-Nee belt! Expected start time: 4:30pm.
Updated scores will be posted throughout the tourney. Expect commentary throughout, by both those playing and spectating.
Video coverage will be available within a couple days.
The Competitors:
- Racktackular, aka Jason (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/jason.shtml)
- Gantry, aka Gantry (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/gantry.shtml)
- Lips, aka Jamie (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/lipitz.shtml)
- Sperling, aka Mark (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/sperling.shtml)
By making the finals last year, two-time defending champ, Rack (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/jason.shtml) and last year's runner-up Gantry (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/gantry.shtml) qualified for today's event. Lips (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/lipitz.shtml) and Sperling (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/sperling.shtml) had to hold off Potsie (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/potsie.shtml) in last month's qualifier (http://forums.dee-nee.com/index.php?topic=17571.0).
The Format:
With four people playing, we use a round-robin format with two games per series. The official RBI Drinking Game (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/drink.shtml) rules are strictly enforced, making booze a huge factor. Initial matchups/positions will be chosen out of a hat between 4pm and 4:30pm. After the twelve games (the semis) are played, the top teams face off in a best 2-out-of-3 finals.
{a} If there is a 2-way tie for first at (5-1) or (4-2):Finals Game 1 team/controller determination:
1. Head-to-Head record. If someone is (2-0) in the head-to-head
series, he gets choice for the first finals game. Otherwise, goto #2.
2. Total runs in the series. Otherwise, goto #3.
3. Total homers in the series.
{b} If there is a 3-way tie for first at (4-2):A tie-breaker game must be played. The three teams must first
get "rated" based on their tournament runs per innings (RPI). Add up
each team's runs scored throughout the team's six games, and divide
that number by innings played. The two teams with the lowest RPI
will play the tie-breaker game, with the team/controller going to the
better RPI team. The best RPI team of the three teams qualifies for
the finals.
{c} If there is a 4-way tie for first at (3-3):The entire tourney is replayed at a later date.
{d} If there is a 2-way tie for second at (3-3):A tie-breaker game must be played. Team/controller determination:
1. Head-to-Head record. If someone is (2-0) in the head-to-head
series, he gets choice. Otherwise, goto #2.
2. Total runs in the series. Otherwise, goto #3.
3. Total homers in the series.
{e} If there is a 3-way tie for second at (2-4):Two tie-breaker games must be played. The three teams must first
get "rated" based on their tournament runs per innings (RPI). Add up
each team's runs scored throughout the team's six games, and divide
that number by innings played. The two teams with the lowest RPI will
play the first tie-breaker game, with the team/controller determination
going to the better RPI team. The winner will then play the best
RPI team of the three teams, with the team/controller determination
going to the best RPI team.
Feel free to leave any questions or comments you have. This thread will be sticky and constantly updated as soon as we are close to starting the festivities. Dee-Nee!!!
Geeking out here...
Highly unlikely, but if {b} or {e} occur AND while rating the three teams, at least two teams have the exact same RPI, I think the secondary tie-breaker for rating the teams would be tourney HRs per innings.
Awesome. I am rooting for Rack. He should have the best eyesight.
Lips and I are recent Lasik customers, Rack can't touch us...
The beer is purchased, just threw down some Subway, the Lemon Party shirt is on with the Cerro Gordo shirt in reserver for tense moments. Nothing like buying 60 bottles of beer at the local pantry store, POOYAN!
I'm ready, I'm feeling good...
Making my first post in months. Don't worry, I will go back into hiatus afterwards. But I knew that Lips would make a post about today's tourney and I had to read it. Then I saw that I still had Hiliary as my aviator and that had to be changed.
But anyways, I am about to leave work. A tad bit later than I wanted to. I will stop at Subway and be over there asap. I'm rusty...real rusty, but I'm ready and willing. My hopes are to play Gantry in round 1 so I can take advatage of his rustiness (although Gantry has been practicing).
We will see how the all important draw goes, but I will defend my two time belt to the death. TO...THE...DEATH!
Oh and remove my liberal weiner level. Change it to conservative weiner level. Thank you.
Done...
Though it will be "0-6 in the 2007 RBI Tournament Level"
good luck gentlemen. i'm going to root for sperling since he's an american hero.
The Order
Series 1
Rack vs Lips
Gantry vs Mark
Series 2
Rack vs Gantry
Mark vs Lips
Series 3
Mark vs Rack
Lips vs Gantry
First name gets pick of team for game one of the series, second name gets pick for game #2.
Game One is in the books
Lips (Bo) - 22, 18 HRs
Rack (Det) - 15, 11 HRs
This is Rack. Disaster. Train wreck. Pretty much everything that could go wrong...did go wrong. Rustiness, baserunning errors, foul outs, no stroke, not knowing how many outs there are. You name it. I just couldn't get it going. I got the worst draw possible in the first round- Lipitz and forced to waste Detroit in my (what I hope) is the most rusty game. Hopefully, Boston can dig me out of this hole and get me back on track to the championship round. I have a tough road ahead and certainly the underdog but I am game.
Sperling (Ca) v. Gantry (Dt) playing now with Sperling winning 3-1 in the bottom of the 1st.
POOYAN!!
Gantry (Dt) - 18, 14 HRs
Sperling (Ca) - 8, 7 HRs
Seven inning slaughter. I started slow but heated up at the end while Sperling struggled mightily. HUGE!!!
Lips just pulled off the "Armas tagged out at first with the 3rd baseman", the rarest of drinks in the RBI drinking universe. Rack is not pleased...
She-Nee-Nee!!
I (Det) just beat Rack (Bos) 15-10 in our second game, with 12 homers to 9. A very good start to the tourney, but it's going to be a long night. Gantry and Mark are just starting to go at it in the second game. I play Mark in about an hour, since Round 2 starts with Gantry and Jason.
The standings so far:
Lips (2-0)
Gantry (1-0)
Mark (0-1)
Rack (0-2)
This is Rack.
I suck at RBI. I'm like Willie Mays during the last year of his career. Basically I am past my prime. My hopes at this point is to sweep Gantry and Spering and fginish 4-2. Slim chance, but I'll have to score more than 2 ruhns in an inning to do tyhat.
I just beat Gantry.
Sperling, DET 12 (6 HRs)
Gantry, CAL 10 (8 HRs)
I'm freezing my ass off. It's probably a combination of nerves and the Dago T that I'm wearing. You would think I'd be happy with a victory, but when you get outhomered and you win a game because you sucked less than the last guy it's very disappointing. It took until the 9th inning before Gantry had a righty hit. I think he grounded into 3 DPs, two with righties and one with Wally Joyner which was great for me. I had 6 innings of doughnuts. SICK!
Gantry versus Rack right now and I have predicted a 5 inning slaughter. Gantry will take out his frustration. It sucks to be the champ right now.
Oh...up to date records:
Lips (2-0)
Gantry (1-1)
Sperling (1-1)
Rack (0-2)
Gantry playing with Cali versus Rack and Detroit. Rack just took the lead with a 3 run homer in the bottom of the 1st. 4-3 Rack.
Gantry just took a Righty strikeout (10 drinks) with DC to set up a rally inning. Absorbine followed that up with a Single, but Potatoes grounded out to RF. It was close to Managerial Excellence, but a good play by Rack stifled that.
DaEvans just hit his 6th straight single. I had 4 in the game previous vs Gantry (yes, I suck with the 2nd best hitter in the game). Rack has 2 so far. The result was G kicking the fan over. YAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRR!

How many drinks? Is that a shotgun?
5 drinks for the "Armas groundout"
I dropped another game, worst two games of my life:
Rack (Dt) - 19, 13 HRs
Gantry (Ca) - 17, 11 HRs
I literally won 23 of 25 games in the last three weeks prepping for this tourney, including a good 15 straight. Nobody has ever dominated RBI in that fashion, yet I am fucking 1-2.
I said it on camera and I'll say it again - if Lips wins this next game I will guarantee myself in the finals. Mark that shit down...
BOOYAH!!!!
Details to follow...
We'll see if I can post this before Lips.
I pulled off a 10-spot in the 9th and lost. The fact that I was able to put up 10 runs in the 9th with all the lefties on DET against Bruce Hurst is amazing. I was feeling pretty confident, but Lips had a good comeback in the bottom of the 9th and I was stuck with Guillermo against all of Boston's righties. I will say that was about the best anybody can play the 9th inning. I pulled off a lot of hits with the lefties and Guillermo had a Pettis between the 3B and SS to set up a 3-Run HR with KG.
Props to Lips for winning the game, but he should've finished me off when he had the chance. I shouldn't have been in that game, but I had a chance to win with a 21-17 lead going to the bottom of the 9th.
RBI Baseball BABY!
Alright...
I played a very good 7-1/2 innings. And then it went to the bottom of the 8th inning and I was batting. I kept Hurst in with men on the corners (with Sully on the bench). Hurst popped up and I really thought there were two outs. So I was running. The next thing I know everyone is ridiculing me. There was one fkn out. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!! I was up by 6, but still.
Next thing you know, Hurst against the Detroit lefties was getting fkn schlacked. When the half-inning finally ended, I look up and see the 0. 10 RUNS by Sperling. 12 for the first 8 innings. AWESOME!
Well, he had to pitch to me with Hernandez. Armas single, Burks single, Boggs single. RBI GRANNY!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tied game. Baylor single. DEWEY HOMER with the walkoff HOMER!!!!!!!!
WOO. I am in good position, but we are only halfway through the semis. A win against Mark in our next game and I will be assured a championship berth.
Rack and Gantry are just beginning their game right now.
The current standings.
Lips (3-0)
Mark (1-2)
Gantry (1-2)
Rack (1-2)
Knock on wood!!
way to kick ass Lips!!!

What's a dago T?
You really don't know Joe?
I suddenly feel a bit of seriousness coming on because you used my first name. Weird.
HUGE!!!!!!
Gantry (Det) - 17, 11 HRs
Rack (Bo) - 15, 11 HRs
I outscored Rack 6-1 in the final 5 innings, got just about every break. With a runner on in the bottom of the 9th and Armas up, I brought in Willie Hernandez with two strikes. Threw and inside fastball that ended up being the game-ending double play...
We were on the brink of controversy when Rack struck me out on a slowball with one out and two runners on base in the 8th. Luckily (and very luckily, as Rack caught a foulout that was called foul at the last second) I got a 3 run dinger with Heath on the next at bat, but that could have been a shitstorm.
The "rule" is that I get to strike out any batter the next inning, but given the potential of ruining an inning, it clearly needs to be a rule where you get to strike out two batters the next inning. It was an accident and thank god it didn't decide the game.
Standings:
Lips 3-0
Gantry 2-2
Sperling 1-2
Rack 1-3
Lips/Sperling with a HUGE game now...
WOW!
Sperling (Ca) - 15, 8 HRs
Lips (Det) - 14, 11 HRs
Back and forth the game the whole time, Sperling comes through clutch in the end. Anyone can qualify for the finals after two series. The standings:
Lips 3-1
Gantry 2-2
Sperling 2-2
Jason 1-3
Dah-Nah...
Mark (Ca) beat me (Det) 15-14 with 8 homers to 11.
Team Lips needs to regroup.
I will be Detroit against Gantry in our first game of the series. I need to win it. PERIOD.
Gantry and I are both cheering for Rack here...
A champion will be crowned tonight. There is no way to have a 4-way tie at (3-3).
Four games to go in the semis.
Who wants it most...
Rack is currently up 8-0 in the bottom of the 2nd with 1 out.
Make it 9-0
It's over....
Rack wins 10-0 in 2 innings.
7 homers to 0.
Lips (3-1)
Gantry (2-2)
Rack (2-3)
Mark (2-3)
let's go mark! eat an mre for more power... soak up some of that alcohol and put some runs on the board!!
Team Lips is going backwards...
Quick recap.
Gantry and I just played a game for the ages. I was down 5 going into the bottom of the 9th. Gantry was left with one Cali pitcher (Witt maybe?). I ended up getting 8 runs with a bunch of homers, to take a lead of 3. Gantry came back strong in the bottom of the 9th with big hits and a walk-off homer...by who, I can't remember right now.
Alright, the standings and where we are at...
Gantry (3-2)
Lips (3-2)
Rack (2-3)
Mark (2-3)
Rack and Mark are playing right now.... The winner goes to a tie-breaker to the loser of me/Gantry.
The winner of Gantry/I gets the #1 seed for the best 2-of-3 finals.
Two huge games ahead of us.
Currently, Mark is up 7-0 in the top of the 2nd.
I partially blame Carly and Mr. Greek for my losses. Since they have arrived, I have lost two straight. Actually, I just haven't gotten it done. The next game with Gantry is going to be gynormous.
My Boston needs to show up bigtime. It's going to be a huge challenge.
go mark go!
Current score is 10-7 Sperling at mid-3.
Rack is trying to find his way to the championship like he did in 2005, after going (0-2). He's having a good bottom-3rd right now...
Going to the 4th, tied at 10s.
Sperling is putting together a good 4th right now...
Bases loaded with Potatoes...
GRANNY!!!!
Going into the 5th, Sperling is leading 18-14...
you dirty bastards need a live feed.
I need to go to bed, but I want to see a new champion crowned.
We still have 2 hours to go...
"You make the call!"
Going into the 9th, Mark (Ca) is up 23-20 on Rack (Det).
LOSER GOES HOME!
Going into the bottom of the 9th...
Mark is up 24-20.
Mark is up 24-21 with 1 out.
Mark WINS!!!!!!!!
The 2-time champ is eliminated...
And then there were 3...
yeah, mark!!
So many things went wrong. It just wasn't in the cards:
1) Got destroyed in the first two games versus Lips because I was so fkn rusty. I just wasn't prepared and it showed.
2) I got my groove back when I beat Gantry and went 1-2. But I completely gave away the 2nd game away by only scoring 1 run in the final 5 innings and only lost by 1 run. The play that killed me was that I caught a foul ball and the fkn game called it foul. That would have ended the inning, but the next pitch was a 3 run HR.
3) Slaughtered Sperling 10-0 in game 1. That is more like it, but got a raw deal in game 2. Pop up to the 2nd basemen with 2 outs...BOP. Hendrick comes up and singles. Sub in BurlySac for the pitcher and a 3 run HR ensues. HR with Jones. HR with Doug-E-Fresh. HR with Joyner. HR with Jackson. Yup 7 runs with 2 outs after a BOP. That was his 8 run 4th (?) inning. I battled back to tie the game at some point and if that wasn't bad enough in the top of the 8th the 2nd baseman has a grounder that he BOPS again with 2 outs. That led to a grand slam by Jackson 2 batters later. 11 runs off of 2 BOPS and lost by 3, 24-21.
Overall, it was the rust in the first series, 1 horribly bad call and 2 badly timed BOPS that led to my demise.
My hat is off to all the competitors and good luck to the rest of the participants.
A first in RBI tourney history. I was posting and all of a sudden I hear glass break. I turn around and the coffee table is shattered. Something happened (not sure what) and Gantry slammed his beer right through the fucking table. Don't worry though, because cleanup has occurred and game has commenced.
gantry angry!!!
GANTRY SMASH!
Alright all...
We just had the tie-breaker. It was Sperling and I. And I just took Sperling down... HUGE!!!!!!!!
It's what we all wanted. Gantry vs. Lips.
Best 2-of-3!
Game 1 is about to begin...
IT'S OVAH!!!! YOU'RE FINISHED!!!
Gantry won it...
It went to the 3rd game....
But I couldn't get my Boston going...
Dah-Nah...
Getting a bye next year doesn't answer all q's. I just couldn't get things going... Any mistaken strikeouts....sorry.
DAH-NAH
weiner is spelled wrong...
there better be some fucking video of this posted up soon.
I did it, but not feeling my best today. Potsie, Sperling and I have barely left the couch...
I keep slamming my beer harder and harder on the table as the night progressed. When someone walked in from outside making a lot of noise in the middle of an AB, I slammed it a bit too hard. Was the spark I needed to succeed....
congratulations, natty gann!
you have definitely reasserted your self as an rbi force to be reckoned with.
Can't stop yawning...
Videos will be up tomorrow night unless I get out of this veg-like state later tonight.
The camera appears to add a lisp to some people during parts of the videos...or what my wife has been calling a Sean Connery.
30 videos of Dee-Nee goodness, in chronological order... Most of the videos are between 2 and 4MB, with the final video topping 16MB.
