2007 Dee-Nee RBI Championship

Today is the day of the 2007 Dee-Nee RBI Championship.  Four drunken idiots will be competing for the top prize, the Dee-Nee belt!  Expected start time: 4:30pm.

Updated scores will be posted throughout the tourney.  Expect commentary throughout, by both those playing and spectating.

Video coverage will be available within a couple days.

The Competitors:

   - Racktackular, aka Jason
   - Gantry, aka Gantry
   - Lips, aka Jamie
   - Sperling, aka Mark

By making the finals last year, two-time defending champ, Rack and last year's runner-up Gantry qualified for today's event.  Lips and Sperling had to hold off Potsie in last month's qualifier.

The Format:

With four people playing, we use a round-robin format with two games per series.  The official RBI Drinking Game rules are strictly enforced, making booze a huge factor.  Initial matchups/positions will be chosen out of a hat between 4pm and 4:30pm.  After the twelve games (the semis) are played, the top teams face off in a best 2-out-of-3 finals.

{a} If there is a 2-way tie for first at (5-1) or (4-2):
Finals Game 1 team/controller determination:
1. Head-to-Head record.  If someone is (2-0) in the head-to-head
series, he gets choice for the first finals game.  Otherwise, goto #2.
2. Total runs in the series.  Otherwise, goto #3.
3. Total homers in the series.

{b} If there is a 3-way tie for first at (4-2):
A tie-breaker game must be played.  The three teams must first
get "rated" based on their tournament runs per innings (RPI).  Add up
each team's runs scored throughout the team's six games, and divide
that number by innings played.  The two teams with the lowest RPI
will play the tie-breaker game, with the team/controller going to the
better RPI team.  The best RPI team of the three teams qualifies for
the finals.

{c} If there is a 4-way tie for first at (3-3):
The entire tourney is replayed at a later date.

{d} If there is a 2-way tie for second at (3-3):
A tie-breaker game must be played.  Team/controller determination:
1. Head-to-Head record.  If someone is (2-0) in the head-to-head
series, he gets choice.  Otherwise, goto #2.
2. Total runs in the series.  Otherwise, goto #3.
3. Total homers in the series.

{e} If there is a 3-way tie for second at (2-4):
Two tie-breaker games must be played.  The three teams must first
get "rated" based on their tournament runs per innings (RPI).  Add up
each team's runs scored throughout the team's six games, and divide
that number by innings played.  The two teams with the lowest RPI will
play the first tie-breaker game, with the team/controller determination
going to the better RPI team.  The winner will then play the best
RPI team of the three teams, with the team/controller determination
going to the best RPI team.

Feel free to leave any questions or comments you have.  This thread will be sticky and constantly updated as soon as we are close to starting the festivities.  Dee-Nee!!!
RBI isn't just a game, it's a lifestyle...

Lips

Geeking out here...

Highly unlikely, but if {b} or {e} occur AND while rating the three teams, at least two teams have the exact same RPI, I think the secondary tie-breaker for rating the teams would be tourney HRs per innings.

RBI isn't just a game, it's a lifestyle...

Darky

Awesome. I am rooting for Rack. He should have the best eyesight.
80's at eight

Gantry

Lips and I are recent Lasik customers, Rack can't touch us...

The beer is purchased, just threw down some Subway, the Lemon Party shirt is on with the Cerro Gordo shirt in reserver for tense moments.  Nothing like buying 60 bottles of beer at the local pantry store, POOYAN!

I'm ready, I'm feeling good...

Mr. Blubbo

Making my first post in months.  Don't worry, I will go back into hiatus afterwards.  But I knew that Lips would make a post about today's tourney and I had to read it.  Then I saw that I still had Hiliary as my aviator and that had to be changed.

But anyways, I am about to leave work.  A tad bit later than I wanted to.  I will stop at Subway and be over there asap.  I'm rusty...real rusty, but I'm ready and willing.  My hopes are to play Gantry in round 1 so I can take advatage of his rustiness (although Gantry has been practicing).

We will see how the all important draw goes, but I will defend my two time belt to the death.  TO...THE...DEATH!
Here's your ball!

Mr. Blubbo

Oh and remove my liberal weiner level.  Change it to conservative weiner level.  Thank you.
Here's your ball!

Gantry

Done...

Though it will be "0-6 in the 2007 RBI Tournament Level"

TβG

good luck gentlemen.  i'm going to root for sperling since he's an american hero.

The Order

Series 1

Rack vs Lips
Gantry vs Mark

Series 2

Rack vs Gantry
Mark vs Lips

Series 3

Mark vs Rack
Lips vs Gantry

First name gets pick of team for game one of the series, second name gets pick for game #2.

Gantry

Game One is in the books

Lips (Bo) - 22, 18 HRs
Rack (Det) - 15, 11 HRs

Lips

This is Rack.  Disaster.  Train wreck.  Pretty much everything that could go wrong...did go wrong.  Rustiness, baserunning errors, foul outs, no stroke, not knowing how many outs there are.  You name it.  I just couldn't get it going.  I got the worst draw possible in the first round- Lipitz and forced to waste Detroit in my (what I hope) is the most rusty game.  Hopefully, Boston can dig me out of this hole and get me back on track to the championship round.  I have a tough road ahead and certainly the underdog but I am game.

Sperling (Ca) v. Gantry (Dt) playing now with Sperling winning 3-1 in the bottom of the 1st.
RBI isn't just a game, it's a lifestyle...

Gantry

POOYAN!!

Gantry (Dt) - 18, 14 HRs
Sperling (Ca) - 8, 7 HRs

Seven inning slaughter.  I started slow but heated up at the end while Sperling struggled mightily.  HUGE!!!

Gantry

Lips just pulled off the "Armas tagged out at first with the 3rd baseman", the rarest of drinks in the RBI drinking universe.  Rack is not pleased...

Lips

She-Nee-Nee!!

I (Det) just beat Rack (Bos) 15-10 in our second game, with 12 homers to 9.  A very good start to the tourney, but it's going to be a long night.  Gantry and Mark are just starting to go at it in the second game.  I play Mark in about an hour, since Round 2 starts with Gantry and Jason.

The standings so far:
Lips (2-0)
Gantry (1-0)
Mark (0-1)
Rack (0-2)
RBI isn't just a game, it's a lifestyle...

Gantry

This is Rack.

I suck at RBI.  I'm like Willie Mays during the last year of his career.  Basically I am past my prime.  My hopes at this point is to sweep Gantry and Spering and fginish 4-2.  Slim chance, but I'll have to score more than 2 ruhns in an inning to do tyhat.

Sperling

I just beat Gantry.

Sperling, DET 12 (6 HRs)
Gantry, CAL 10 (8 HRs)

I'm freezing my ass off.  It's probably a combination of nerves and the Dago T that I'm wearing.  You would think I'd be happy with a victory, but when you get outhomered and you win a game because you sucked less than the last guy it's very disappointing.  It took until the 9th inning before Gantry had a righty hit.  I think he grounded into 3 DPs, two with righties and one with Wally Joyner which was great for me.    I had 6 innings of doughnuts.  SICK!

Gantry versus Rack right now and I have predicted a 5 inning slaughter.  Gantry will take out his frustration.  It sucks to be the champ right now.

Sperling

Oh...up to date records:

Lips (2-0)
Gantry (1-1)
Sperling (1-1)
Rack (0-2)

Gantry playing with Cali versus Rack and Detroit.  Rack just took the lead with a 3 run homer in the bottom of the 1st.  4-3 Rack.

Sperling

Gantry just took a Righty strikeout (10 drinks) with DC to set up a rally inning.  Absorbine followed that up with a Single, but Potatoes grounded out to RF.  It was close to Managerial Excellence, but a good play by Rack stifled that.

Sperling

DaEvans just hit his 6th straight single.  I had 4 in the game previous vs Gantry (yes, I suck with the 2nd best hitter in the game).  Rack has 2 so far.  The result was G kicking the fan over.  YAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRR!

How many drinks?  Is that a shotgun?
