I thought sucka's thread in the anything goes forum was a great idea and thought we could use an RBI one too.
A lot of times I think of something to say or have a story from some of our games but don't really think it's worth a whole thread. Also there hasn't been alot of RBI talk in here lately so if you're thinking of anything, go for it.
We played a few games over the weekend but not alot really stands out. This is partially due to heavy drinking.
Spike_owen#1 and I did play a pretty good 25-18 game tonight though. I had Detroit and won over American. 10 home runs from each team. Good stuff.
I won another one Friday night that was pretty fucked up. SF over NY 13-12. The messed up part was that in the 8th he got screwed by the glitch where you go to turn the DP too fast and it doesn't count the force at second. The out would have ended the inning but then Mitchell ends up hitting a granny and I win by 1 run. I almost felt bad about that one.
Chubbs was up by 9 going into the top of the ninth. I forget what the teams were, but I was overmatched. Guess who won.
I got Benito in our fantasy baseball autodraft tonight.
Unfortunately, Murphy's not around to bail me out of this one.
Lou Whitaker sucks
Why Pedrique?
Pedrique is a kickass third base coach for the DBacks.
I wish I could effetively bunt with the pitchers. It would add so much to my game
I used to be able to bunt semi-effectively with the pitchers but that gave me zero chance of a pitcher home run. Now I try to pull it down the line every time in the hopes that someday one will go through the wall.
I hate Matt Nokes
I hate Fat Hrbek.
I hate Doug DeCinces.
Willie McGee is one ugly mofo.
I want a Willie McGee jersey...one of those blue ones from the early-mid 80's.

why does the catcher move around so much, don't he and the pitcher know where the ball is supposed to be going?
Why do I dance back and forth with the pitcher as he goes side to side on the rubber? My brother gets me every time. Fucker.
Why do I fall for the fake button bush on rundowns?
I like finding out how many different angles you can throw the ball around the field.
For some reason, every time I'm playing for SnG and I use the AL All-Stars; and George Brett comes up to bat, I drool and mutter 'pine tar'... Is that so wrong?
Also, it it wrong to intentionally bean the living bejesus out of Buckner?
How come every time I bean somebody, they come back to hit a blast off me in the next AB.
Should I be banned for life because this has happened to me with Spike Owen before?
Chubby white guys = incredible baseball players

Larry Herndon is the Tito Jackson of RBI baseball
Is the "wallsy" intentional?
Dickie Thon has a cool name
Somebody said Tito Jackson.

Does anybody else have a name for when the player makes a catch where they end up in the diving position?
We always call it a Web Gem. It's also worth one drink.
A 9-inning no-no against the computer is harder than it sounds...
I'm going to attempt it tonight. Unfortunately my moror skillz are fucked from $1 draft/$5 pitcher night at the bowling alley.

Looking back on the era, it's a good thing they didn't line the fields with cocaine... Strawberry (AND a few others who escape me now) woulda been kicked out a LONG time ago. 8)
I fucking lost 2 in a row last night. I had like a month long winning streak going and my friend beat me with Houston. I had a major power outage with the Cards and lost something like 8-7. Pretty sad for straight pitch.
StL then made up for it when my other friend hit 9 home runs with them against me in the next game. One of these being a walk off by Steve Lake. Damn Natty Light tall boys make me suck ass at RBI.
Also we have a new tradition of saying "Warning Track Power" every time Tony Pena steps to the plate. I've never seen anybody hit more deep flies and balls off the wall. Even his homers barely clear the fence.

I FUCKING LOVE THAT QUOTE..."WARNING TRACK POWER"....THAT'S PERFECT FOR THAT FUCKTARD.
The cards redeemed themselves tonite. Kind of. I was about to lose to one of my friends who has never beat me b/c they were in the midst of another power outage but I had late inning heroics.
Down 9-8 I put Morris in for the pitcher and he makes the 1st out. Coleman hits what should have been a double but makes it to 3rd when the throw comes in to 2nd. I try to put on the hit and run with Ozzie but of course he pops it up just like StL always does on rbi when you need them to put it on the ground. With 2 outs my friend changes pitchers, bringing in Corbet and I hit a walk off with Mr Clutch, Jim Lindeman. It was balls out time indeed. Yes I have been drinking heavily.
More Portsmouth RBI action:
Arcade:
spike_owen#1 Cards 19
Baines A's 15
Baines Dodgers 12
spike_owen#1 Cards 11
Nothing really out of the ordinary about these 2 games other than Jack Clark putting on a hitting clinic. I really suck ass on the arcade game and lose with the same consistency as I usually win against my friends on the NES. Basically I can either throw the ball hard or to the right base but never both. In the first game I attribute at least 9 of the runs I gave up to throwing errors, usually with 2 outs. I would have lost the 2nd game too if spike wasnt trying to talk on the phone and dropped it at a crucial point in the 9th inning.
NES:
spike_owen#1 Ca 17
Baines Mn 7 8 innings
Possibly the biggest bullshit game I've ever been witness to. Angels 11 HR's, Twins 2. Making it more painful is that he leaves the starters in. I know I'm a little unconventional by leaving Boone in but the RBI gods should make him pay for not using Cali right. Instead he gets a homer with Pettis, 2 from Grich, and 3 from Boone. Now I didn't care to give up 3 to Reg but this is fucking ridiculous. First time he's slaughtered me. Yes, I'm still bitter.
Baines Ca 16
Spike Mn 0 3 innings
A little bit of redemption I guess but still didn't make up for the 1st game. I think there were 6 homers. Herdrick led off the game with one and Jones showed he belongs in the 6 hole with 2 bombs. Boone also hit another 2. I'm beginning to think we have some screwed up copy of RBI because it seems like we're the only people in the world to get this kind of production from Boone.
I haven't played RBI baseball in over two weeks. This is getting ridiculous.
I lost 2 out 3 yesterday using STL against MN, lost both games Tudor pitched in the series. 2-0 in the rubber match when both runs given up scored on a 2 out bases loaded bop in the 5th inning. Just wasn't my day.
Ken Dayley
Giving up a walkoff homer to Steve Lake is just about the worst way to lose I can think of...
And Potsie did hit 3 dingers with Boone off Sperling two weeks ago. I still refuse to keep him in though...
asian chicks are hot
hey sucka, are you checking out the chicks in the stands at tengen park or what?
One of the cool feature of Arcade RBI is that the fans in the stands are the colors of the teams playing.
Yeah, I do kinda like that.

Dave Parker would have been kick ass on RBI.
Mets vs. American = RIVALRY GAME
MY FRIEND HITS MULTIPLE HOME RUNS W/ SONOFAGRICH. THIS IS BULLSHIT
I hit 10 homerunz with minnesota. I'm good at rbi
5 in a row with Grich. What!!!
PS: Wally Joyner is gay.
bottom 9th + ozzie smith + home run = suicide!
Quality games of RBI were played tonight.. I'm far too drunk for commentary. I dropped a 10-0 on spike_owen #1 with houston. And had a legendary NY vs. AM serise w/ another friend winning 3 of 4 with a 20-19 game and a 19-17 game. Also Bobby Fuckin Grich owns me. I won every game against CA but between me and another friend I saw him hit 5 in a row. What the fuck!!! I'm still not leaving that bitch in.
Finally broke out of my slump. I don't really recall any specific game scores because there was so much RBI going on this weekend that by yesterday I started to get cramps in my hand.
It's like this place completely dies during the winter and when it warms up everybody wants to get together and play RBI again. We had at least 5 people to play RBI at any given time over the weekend and when we decided to actually play some real baseball we ended up having too many for teams of 9 and actually had people on the bench. Hooray for warm weather!
I did play one of the weirdest games ever with SalBando last night. He beat me 6-5 with DT vs. AM in straight pitch! Even stranger than both of these teams doing nothing from the plate was that he only had 6 hits. Five of these were homeruns, one of them driving in his only other baserunner. Three of my 5 runs were on 3 solo homers by Donnie Baseball. McGwire, Bell and Canseco went a combined 0-13.
Willie McGee always makes me smile.
Let's see... It's half-past a Yugo's hubcap and the Eleventeenth of Octember... it's about time I rip my old nemesis Jack Nickalus out of the NES and put 'ol' blackie' RBI back in. (the only Jack I want when I play Jack Nickalus Golf is Daniels!) Perhaps one of these days if I get time, I'll find some locals who want to start a little tourney in the Haute. ...but I'm not known for... you know, DOING things... 8)
Happy birthday Reggie Jackson....
I need to start practicing for the Ohio tourney...damn.
Nine straight losses in the straight pitch league. I'm more the managerial type...
consider it nine straight 2nd place finishes. . . . Cub fans will be jealous of you.
RBI related. . . . . well, I'm sure Andre Dawson is hung like a mule.
Jose Oquendo is a fucking beast.
Despite your thoughts on Willie McGee's appearance, he rocks the casbah.

QuoteIs there anyway you could get your hands on some Sportz?
Believe me, if I could I would. I haven't seen it anywhere but South Padre Island even though the can says it's brewed out of LaCrosse, WI. I had some friends who went back the next year and couldn't find it. I would assume that there's a good possibility that they are out of business but I prefer to stay in denial.
They aren't out of business. I got some in Austin a few weeks ago. Put a collection together or something and I'll ship some there.
QuoteThey aren't out of business. I got some in Austin a few weeks ago. Put a collection together or something and I'll ship some there.
You just made my day. Let me talk to my friends and i'll see if we can get something together.
my guess is that shipping will cost more than the beer itself
You would probably be right. Unless I snuck it onto my company's fedex account...
Yeah it probably would end up being outrageous. Even though the beer itself is pretty damn cheap.
This thread was a better idea the 2nd time
Fkn weird, I guess fighton is a no good copycat?
Chubbs and I did end up playing last night. We were both pretty rusty (he moreso than I) but had a two very good 3 game series. I'd be lying if I said I remembered the matchups but I do know the AL all stars still suck giant balls.
I wish Pujols was in RBI. He might even be better than he is in real life!

Works for me, more lefty advantages...
Also, we'd hate to rob Gary Pettis of homeruns and doubles!

as you guys know, i play with cali almost exclusively. i play with all kinds of line-ups against the computer, but mainly leave the original guys in.
this past weekend i hit a rare "bunyon" with pettis over the first baseman's head for a triple. i don't think i'd ever done that with him, so it was somewhat lamely exciting.

Fess up Dee-Nee, who said that?
There were a few BS RBI comments (Ozzie Smith could bunt and get on base every time?) but I have to think this is BS. TBT?
"The SF NG on the original tecmo could dive and get a sack every time the QB was under center. You had to run the shotgun, which limited you to 2 plays instead of 4. A decisive advantage in tecmo."
wrong.!
against the computer you can side step the center with michael carter and get a sack about half the time. the rest of the time the qb will throw to soon, or else step up in the pocket avoiding the sack.
vs a good human player, the QB will just cycle quickly and hit an open man for a big gain most of the time. im sure it may result in a rare-occasional sack, or worse yet hurry the QB and make an errant throw. Its not a smart idea to try and do more than once or twice a game.
Also, not every team had a shotgun play, and I don't think any of them had 2 (although TBT can certainly correct me on that).
none had two, and i can only think of three teams with shogun (sf, den and mia).

In four hours I will be attempting to get my picture taken with Tommy Herr. We have an 'in' with a really hot 18 year old who works for the team, and she's getting us in for free (which saves, literally, $14) and we have high hopes of either hooking up with hot 18 year olds...or, best case scenario, Tommy Herr.
Tony Tarrasco also works for the team.
Pics are expected, of both Tommy Herr and various hot 18-year-olds.
So...Tommy Herr no longer manages the Suns. But we did spend quite a bit of time with the unbelievable hotties that work the promotions, and it turns out our hot 18 year old is in pageants (face! broiler).
A few notes, THEY HAVE LEINEY SUNSET WHEAT FOR SIX DOLLARS FOR 32 OUNCES!!!!! ON TAP!!!!!! This immediately made the night start unbelivable.
Me and my buddy did an on field race where we ran twenty yards, changed a diaper for a baby, and ran back. I was pretty drunk (itw as the 6th inning at that point) and they had a two second head start, but, as long as I don't have to run more than 25 yards, I'm pretty quick, but apparently diapers go between the legs and have sticky tape shit to keep it on, i finished second. hot chick won (we were gonna rig it, but we were outclassed)
the key to the race thing was the ten minutes waiting for the inning to end, when i got 6 6-8 year old boys to start a "boys rule girls drool" chant to psyche out the girl we were racing, i also was surprised that when i said "hey ,BOYS! you to to college to...and girls to to where!" anyway, very enjoyable. later on i was going to take a piss and 3 of the boys stopped me, one of them had a handlebar mustache painted on, and the other stopped me to make sure his friend played me his 'afroman' ringtone, which was a guy saying "lick my balls"
parents, please don't let your kids have cell phones.
while behind the home dugout, i got into a quick conversation with darnell coles, and asked a player who's last name was smolinski if he was actually a hockey player (he said he wasn't). both of them should have been focused on the game that they were losing.
so...no tommy herr, i don't own a camera, but holy crap are these 18 year olds hot and i think this may become part of our weekly scheduole (monday = nothing, tuesday = bar, wednesday = nothing, thursday = bar, friday = bar, saturday night = bar, sunday = crappier bar).
EDIT: our hot 18 year old is who forced us into the race, so, being that we still thought tommy Herr was managing, we were announced as "Jim Lindemann and Curt Ford (thanks Nacho!)" and whatever the cunt's name was we were racing. We figured this would give us our in since of the 4000 people there, only Tommy Herr would recognize both names, we were pretty upset to find out he wasn't managing.
BUT DARNELL COLES!!!
i just outran jorge (george) bell. i was the cards with pendleton at third base and ran across the field on a groundball, beating him to first.
he hit the ball so hard it negated his speed. 936/124. i actually thought he was faster than that, until i looked it up just now. he's not so fast. even compared to the top 5-6 power guys, he's like 5th.
still, a rare feat nonetheless.
That is very impressive with a guy with 124 speed. I don't think I've ever seen that on a non-118 runner...
You know you're having a good RBI session when you're subbing you're pinch hitting for your pitcher in the first inning before he gets a chance to throw.
Playing the computer gets boring unless you're trying to slaughter it as quickly as possible.

i've got a chubby charlie just thinking about it
I took two of three from Chubbs last night. I don't remember all the specifics but the games were all decided by two runs or less. We both played surprisingly well. It was late, we were totally shitfaced, and hadn't played in a few months.
just executed a beautiful 5(tag)-4-3 TRIPLE PLAY with california against Am and canseco at the plate. it was at a very important part of the ballgame, too.
Playing my buddy last night and I got Rueschel in vs AL. The Whale is practically gassed but Ripken just got out so its all downhill for the rest of the line-up and i keep nibbling outside. my buddy screams "take your fkn pitcher out already, take that fucker out!".
Apparently he hates me workin a tired arm for all its worth, then him having to adjust to a fresh arm throwing 90mph. dude was serious and fairly pissed.
Kerfeld is the master of this...get 4-5 innings with him then flame throw with Ryan the rest of the game.
I hit 85-90 mph gas far better than the 30-40mph lobs.
If you're playing me it's almost better to leave a spent Kerfeld in than to bring in Ryan.

Kefeld was gettin lit up vs MIN yesterday....Chuck prefers lefties.
i mean, i can't remember both the raines family members playing in baltimore at the time and people making a big deal of it... i don't know. i guess baseball-reference.com would tell us.
I seem to remember when Raines Jr came up for just a wee bit, it was kinda cool, but he quickly showed that he, ya know, was terrible at baseball, so it couldn't have been more than a few games they played together.
And I never have been able to find anything online to confirm, but I swear there was a spring training game when both Ken Griffey's and their cousin/nephew made up the entire Mariner outfield.

I played my first game on a TV in about 3 years, it was glorious. It's amazing how fast the skill comes back, probably been an entire year since I got a game in.

Craig Griffey rode the bench on OSU's football team in the late 80s and spent some time in the Mariners, and I think Reds, organizations. Not sure if he ever played in a ML game but If he was with the Mariners first, that would put him there at the right time for something like that to have happened in spring training like you said.

i just recorded an 8-4-5 double play on a sharply hit line drive to center. two were on for detroit and brookens smashed one to pettis in center. pettis handled it quickly on one hop and gunned it to grich at second who ran toward third to be sure the runner was advancing and fired it to decinces for the tagout. it was beautiful.

Got in 5 games of tourney RBI today
Best of 3 series play.
SF @ BOS
Game 1: Bos out slugs Sf and wins 5-4. Game 2: Rueschel fkn no hits me and SF sneaks by 1-0 thanks to a chili homer. Game 3: Boston goes on a homer binge and wins 4-0.
NY @ MIN
Orosco rolls thru 8 1/3 and NY takes game 1 by a score of 5-2. hernandez homers twice and drives in 3. dykstra may have gone 4-4(singles)
Game 2: orosco rolls again and gooden cleans up. Ny wins 3-1.
NY will face Boston next
other side of the bracket for later.....
AL vs CAL and NL vs DET
File under "you have got to be fucking kidding me"!
My buddy may have retired from RBI this week. Turns out hes not so good at handling the stress of RBI.
The past weekend had a NY(me) vs Boston match-up. Boston won game 1 handily thanks to a few human errors on my part. Game 2 NY pulled it out in the bottom of the 9th and game 3 was decided in the top of the 9th and Boston wins 2-1. Considering I had a couple fuck ups in game 1 that completely handed it to him and then fought like hell in games 2 and 3 i considered it a very good showing. he on the other hand was moderately disappointed by barely sneaking by an inferior opponent(Team-NY).
Fast forward to the next series that has Boston(me) vs MIN, and I win both games roughly by a a score of 4-1. In both games he got a little late rally and had 2 guys on with power at the plate but failed to come back. He's was exceedingly pissed by the performance and the loss.
Fast forward to monday. STL(me) vs N.L. Lindeman sporting Ph power bonus takes fernando out of the park and over the scoreboard on an inside pitch. 2-0 STL. from there the pressure musta started to mount badly for him. 2-1 score when Coleman gets a fastball way inside but manages to turn on it and homers out 3-1 STL mid part of the game. NL gets homer and Raines doubles and score in the 9th to tie it up. In the 10th NL tacks on a run and pulls it out by a score of 4-3. he decides to pass on playing game 2 so we call it a day.
Turns out it took him 3 days to finally get over the win. THE WIN! He was that disguted and angry that feable STL almost took out NL. So that might be the end of his RBI career. Crazy thing is the guy had been pretty even in the W-L category with me of late. Not like hes geting whooped each time out. He recently game me(A.L.) an ass whooping of 8-2 in game 2 vs saberhagen by N.L. and swept that series.
Just odd that he doesnt relish the competativeness of it all. RBI is a great game because no matter the teams/match-ups the score is usually pretty tight.

so you don't have a virtual nes? You playing on the actual nes?
i prefer FCEU for emulation. i do have virtua nes for the express purpose of watching games, but i just haven't been watching games via emulator this season.
been playing a bunch of super rbi with my friend this summer. def not as good, but neither of us have working neses at the moment
there is an rbi renaissance taking place.
Nestopia FTW. Great emulation, great online play.
Nestopia gave life back to R.B.I.
I fucking hate FTW.
It means fuck the world goddamnit.
You know, I never use FTW. I am quite surprised I actually did, as it was a subconcious decision to do so.

Wasn't a fuck you to you or anything like that, sorry if it came across that way.
gantry beat me in straight pitch boston vs detroit. beat me by a run. fucking five run first.
Nestopia?
Beat Octo in the quarters of the tournament last night, then lost to Baines in the final and then this morning lost to Gantry in the semi-final.
But....I beat Octo
Showtime in 10 minutes for game 7 of the Fantasy RBI World Series.
I'm pumped for this.

I did have my last wraps, where I'm sure my drunk ass would have scored at least 18378 more runs.
playing against the computer:
i just flew out to LF but misjudged the outs. i had a runner on first that i set all the way around to score on the play, so the comp needed to get the throw back to first to double up that runner.
only problem was that the relay went into second base and the shortstop along with the pitcher camped in the baseline between first and second and kept interrupting the throw to first. for some reason, they would then throw the ball back to second.
this happened repeatedly, sometimes both the ss and P would intercept throws. this lasted about 3-4 minutes before they moved themselves far enough out of position and the ball went through to 1st for the out so we could get on with play.
if there was an official scorer tracking that play, he would have pulled his hair out. the play would have looked something like this: F7-4-1-4-6-4-1-6-4-1-4-6-4-1-6-4-1-4-6-4-1-6-4-1-4-6-4-1-6-4-1-4-6-4-1-6-4...-1-4-6-4-1-6-4-3 DP. but strung out even longer, i'm sure. amazing.
So they kept making the throws while slowly but surely inching out of position to actually turn the dp, am I understanding that correctly?
I love RBI.
since the throws were so short, they couldn't move far, that's why they had to make so many throws.
i believe waht you're thinking is right.
First thing my daughter said to me when I got home today:
"Dad, can we play the baseball game on the TV?"

You are a wonderful parent.
Agreed...
That's amazing. Well done, ultimate.
Brian Downing's final at bat of his career. How many RBI'rs can you spot in this video? I found 4 (one is named by the newscaster).
great video
