Title: Official Southern WI Dee-Nee Fest Thread
Post by: Turd on 02/19/10, 11:50:06 AM
I think I'm addicted to adding the word "official" to threads. I. just. Can't. Stop.  Anyways, a discussion in another thread prompted someone's request that one of us start an official Dee-Nee fest thread for the southern WI region.  So, I am starting that thread.  Since I've never been to one, and I'm a procrastinator (unless it involves something cool on my computer, like RBI or something), I may not be the best person to plan it, but I'll assist in any way, and be active in the discussion...

So, the usuals, where, when, what, who...

Myself and Bastardo are 15 min away from each other (and we work so close to each other I could pee on his building from my desk chair).  There's also Re-Poop, Brookens...who else would be interested? Discuss.
-------
Supplies
Bastardo has access to projector, two games, and two top-loaders...

Interested attendees
Turd (Milwaukee)
Bastardo (Milwaukee)
Gantry (Chicago)

Like I said in the other thread, I have access to a pair of top loaders, and a projector to play some giant games of RBI on...

There are a handful of players I know in the area that if timing works out they would be up to getting wasted and playing RBI in a semi-orginized fashion.

I'd definitely make it up to Milwaukee, Re-Peat PM'ed me about a potential Madison fest as well.

I'd prefer it be here in Milwaukee, of course, plus it's a little closer to the Chi-town boys, but Madison is awesome as well.

I prefer Milwaukee as well cause I'm lazy, sorry Re-Peat!

How about the weekend after Easter? April 10th and 11th?

I'm just throwing that out there, I haven't really cleared it on my schedule (ie - asked the wife if anything is going on that weekend, for her to say no and get excited that I might be interested in doing something with her, then disappointing her by telling her I am going to get drunk with my internet friends).

I have a good connection at AMF Bowlero (for out of towners it's right of the freeway), could get use of one of the rooms there for free, however I don't know what the carry-in policy would be and I don't know the room scheduling for those days.

It would be a good place for it because it's already a nasty place, if we got stupid drunk it wouldn't be the first time that place has experienced it.

Bastardo, I'm tentatively fine with everything you said. I just have to clear it with my wife as well...

I like Milwaukee, and I'm not at all opposed to doing it there.  The main (and really only) advantage to Madison is that I'm a single homeowner so we'd have a free venue to play RBI and get trashed all night with upsetting a wife or causing the hotel manager to yell at Baines again.

Count me in for anything in Milwaukee/Madison/Chicago.

The single home-ownership situation definately needs to be considered...

It would be very hard to get in trouble at this bowling alley, it would take alot... The down side is the carry-in policy, we could probably get away with bringing some stuff to make mixed drinks with but would have to buy our beer from the bar.

Reasonable priced by but still.

I got no qualms with buying brews from the bar, especially if a free room is involved.

I would love to come, but there is no way I can make it that soon.
It would have to be August or later since I have a ton of business travel planned thru the summer, not to mention bachelor parties, weddings, and friends visiting.  All means, very difficult to rationalize buying a plane ticket and leaving for the weekend to play video games with internet friends.

I nominated Re-Peat's place (without asking him) I know it's very rude of me and I wouldn't normally do something like that but I am like Gantry and lazy and have a family that I really wouldn't be able to justify leaving town to play RBI unfortunately.  I could probably swing a Saturday sometime if it was on the other side of town.  Plus, no offense to the milwaukee crew, ok offense.  Who the hell wants to drive to Milwaukee.  I really don't like driving to milwaukee.  The interstate is bumpy as shit and then you have to actually go to Milwaukee.  After typing this, I realize now that I probably won't be attending-I get a vote at least right?  From the above posts though it sounds like I'm in the minority.  I have a non-top load nintendo and one RBI game with two controllers.

Do you realize that those of us in Milwaukee would have to use the same bumpy roads that you feel are too bumpy to travel to Madison? Are you saying us risking our lives on the bumpy roads of Milwaukee to Madison any different then you risking your life on the bumpy roads from Madison to Milwaukee?

So I ask you this, despite loving Madison, who would want to travel on such bumpy roads to get there?

As far as the date I through out there, I'm not even sure it's possible for me yet, still have to clear it but the reason I through a quick date out is because if we push it to August these types of things fizzle out in the planning process. Although August is probably pretty open for me.

The date I threw out there is two weeks before I'm scheduled to run a marathon... I think I'll be in the mood to get hammer timed.

You make some valid points.  I may be the biggest dee nee fest tease in this case.  Maybe your shocks are better than mine?

No, he'll be in Burlington, Wi. I talked to the wife tonight, we just have to find out when the baptism is and then I'll know.

I'm very excited for a sausage, ahem, Dee-née fest. (my iPhone automatically adds the accent mark to Dee-née. Awesome).

Maybe Doyle will have the piece of shit speed train rammed down our throats before April, bumpy roads no more...

Date looks fine for me however it appears there was a shooting over the weekend in the parking lot of the proposed location, dee-nee!

Basically there's a LOT of drinking, usually an "event" or two (manolympics, minor league baseball game), followed by taking over a local bar, being threatened to be kicked out of the hotel around 2AM, and about three of four total games of RBI being played.

Usually people show up sporadically on that Friday, starting in the morning/early afternoon, with a few coming in Thursday night.

It's your fest though, so you decide a kickoff time.

The Cards are in town that weekend at Miller Park, so there is always that option on either Friday or Saturday night...

I'll talk to the GM at Bowlero on Wednesday and see if he'll give us some space that weekend, I'd say if we set something up to be playing RBI in the afternoon on Saturday into the evening, get pretty shined up and then take the show on the road would probably work out.

As far as leaving gear at the place, they have closests we can shove the crap into... ...although there is this back bar we might be able to take over ourselves that has two tvs in it already, that might be ideal so we don't have to haul a bunch of $hit around.

It might be hard to avoid bowling a few drunken games, this all depends on what is going on at that place that weekend. It is a dump and a half.

No one was hurt in the shooting... so we have that going for us, which is nice.

Alright, the wife seemed a little apprehensive about being home by herself with the ankle-biters for a whole day and overnight so soon, so we discussed me making a 3:00 or 4:00 arrival...
Title: Re: Official Southern WI Dee-Nee Fest Thread
Post by: Gantry on 02/22/10, 01:09:48 PM
This type of fest should probably be a one-day affair given all the uncertainties we got going.  One Saturday with the Bowling alley in Milwaukee would get probably tecmo, RePeat, Bastardo & myself at a minimum.  I think if we went home I could convince Lips to come up with me

A fest in Madison could go longer because Re-Peat is by himself but I only see me, Brookens and Repeat so far on that board.

We really need to have at least 4 people to have any semblance of a fest.  Any casual players the milwaukee/madison folks friends with?   Is anyone else reading this interested?
Title: Re: Official Southern WI Dee-Nee Fest Thread
Post by: Turd on 02/22/10, 01:12:21 PM
I have a friend or two that might be interested, although they are in the same kid situation that I am in...and less ambitious.

I'd really like to see this happen...they gots to be mo' people interested...if not, we keep this thread open and hope that others come on board?

Consider me saddened if we can't get it rockin'.

That's why I think a small gathering works at first - make it one day/afternoon so married people can go home in the evening.  And like I said, if I went home it would be easier to convince Sperling/Lips/whoever to go wtih me.

Potsie moved to Kenosha so I can probably get him to come.  Stop off at Woodmans too...

Post by: Turd on 02/22/10, 01:17:28 PM
I agree about making it one day, I can't make it more than that, but I already cleared that I'd be able to drink, possibly spend the night or take a cab home...either way, small or large gathering, I'm in.  If it's small, then you three can just beat up on me in RBI for a few hours, play some drunk bowling, and set it up nicely for the second go-around for a WI dee-nee fest sometime in the future, maybe hit up a Brewers game or something else fun.

I have a couple buddies that play RBI, one I grew up with playing so he is a good player.  The other isn't very good but has occasionally upset me so that's an option and if Re-peat doesn't want to host (don't blame him since I previously volunteer his place without asking him) ;) then perhaps these guys would be willing to host.  They live on the East side off Stoughton Rd and they are roommates.

I play basketball in the morning until about 11 am, could be ready for dee-nee fest around noon and rock it all day long... ...if it's a one day thing we gotta start around noon so we can get into full shit-faced mode by mid-afternoon... ...I'll check with the bowling alley guy tomorrow night, if that doesn't pan out, I wouldn't rule out a drive up to Madison for myself, but if it's easier on the turd we should keep it down here, new baby and all.

I have anywhere from 1-5 RBI players that would be interested but until we can nail the details down, hopefully by the end of this week, I can't really email them. Then of course there is the two months til the fest for them to back out but I'm sure I could get a handful, so we'd have 5-10 guys getting wasted, playing RBI, I can't say some of the guys wouldn't fall for Turd bringing a copy of tecmo along either... ...I like the game but I'm not very good at it. RBI for me and tons of booze.

I'd also be up for that Cards/Brewers game if it came down to it, but I could see myself being way to drunk to pull that off.

I'm cleared for that weekend. Saturday, right? I doubt I could pull of noon, but I can show up a little late. Are we crashing somewhere, or what? Since I live in the area, if I were shitfaced I'd need to crash at someones house or take the BADD cab home.

Excellent, lets see how the bowling alley goes and progress from there.

Cabs and sober rides are probably best if it's a one day thing.  I'd probably end up sobering up (or better yet, bringing someone who will want to drive back) or if Re-Peat is down possibly a hotel room, especially if we go to a Brewers game.

But lets not get ahead of ourselves, lets get that bowling alley and a date confirmed, then go from there.

No, it's the bar with cheap strippers.

Normally I'm not a huge fan of skin bars, but having on right in the middle of the rest of the normal bars makes it a nice place to stop in, see some tits, and continue on while moving from bar to bar.

I'm certainly not under the impression that alot of RBI will be played... but the effort to have the machine on playing a CPU match game has to happen at the very least.

Art's Performing Center... dear God... ...I'm not opposed, but I should be.

Bowling alley noon til whenever, Brewer game if we managed to (which I doubt we will because we are going to be blind drunk)... perhaps some house ball chucking, although we will have to try not to destroy too much property... ...cab ride downtown isn't too bad, could also do a cab ride to the Miller Park area, there are some crap bars there... maybe a stop there before heading downtown or to the east side... ...finding places to land and get even more $hit faced is not going to be a problem.

I pretty much cleared for the night.

My wife will be about 7 months prego at the time, but she will pick us up and drop us off, some of us anyway if worst comes to worst... ...otherwise I'm almost positive that we will have options to get moving around.

I can also score the old man's van if need be - we can store a lot of bodies in that thing and only need one sober driver.

I think quite a bit of RBI will be played - similar to the 2nd day at my house, that TV was going pretty much the whole time.

I look forward to some RBI'ing too.  There was some good action in Kentucky last summer, although we definitely suffered from only having the one setup.

I'll be driving in and I'll have my truck for driving around if needed.  If there's only going to be 5 people we can squeeze in there alright, and I know Milwaukee reasonably well.

Events/Attractions to consider:
RBI
Brewers game
Potowatomi (Casino)
Art's Performing Center (low class titty bar, the best kind)
Water Street bars
Old German Beer Hall (Polka, kraut beer, and Hammerschlagen!)
Bowling

Yah, it would take me alot to get me into Art's and the casino could be fun but it can also be a vortex of hell... ...walking into that place can really take the shine off of a buzz.

But the options are there... ...lots of drinking and ripping on each other, the foundation remains the same.

Venue booked, it's a small bar to ourselves with one 35 inch old school television in it, I'll contemplate dragging a second TV in for two games going on... ...it's a fairly private room which is cool, the GM told me he would have a waitress run down there for us/allow us to use the house phone to call for a waitress if we haven't seen her for a bit.

I'm going to spread the word locally in a few weeks, it's probably to early for me to tell my friends about it now, they'll forget about it but I'll see them all at opening day a week before dee-nee fest and push the agenda.

Another thing is, no matter what we have to be out of the private room at 7:30 pm, which is both good and bad... ...it's good because it will get us moving on to a more happening venue, bad because I know that turd and others might not get there until later in the afternoon.

So if it's okay with turd... Dee-nee fest Southern WI will start at the Bowling alley private bar at noon and we have the space until 7:30ish... then off to whereever.

If people are driving in from the south and stopping at Gantry's I'd be down to drive to Chicago on Friday night to join.

Saturday April 10th is indeed the date... ...I'm somewhat considering driving to Chicago Friday night before it... ...but perhaps would be best served staying in town in advance of what is going to be a display of worthlessness Saturday.

I'm glad this is coming together, it should be a terrible time because you guys are all assholes.

I don't even know why I wasted my time planning any of this, I'm going to hate meeting and hanging out with all of you. It's going to be the biggest waste of a day ever.

I probably won't even show up.

I was planning on luring all of you assholes to a bowling alley in the middle of nowhere on the west side of milwaukee, then do a tour of your homes having sex with your wives and girlfriends. So whatever variety that is called... ...I think it's the Nick Carter.

pretty sure i can get octo to come. we should do a fantasy draft with all the attendees and put the teams on a cart to play with.

Or put hook a laptop up to a TV and do it that way...

I didn't think you were coming unless Baines or I were. Maybe I'll just click "Attending" on Facebook and not show up.

Also, this needs to be put on the other forum as well. Some people don't check RBI.

This is a great idea, would be a blast, we could draft from Turd's 30 team rom.

Not sure about hooking a laptop up to a tv... ...although I could grab my nephews 22 inch LCD or something, it has VGA input... ...the tv at the bowling alley is a 35 inch tube tv for classic stylings.

I think the custom cart is definitely the way to go, gameplay is just that little bit better.

And custom teams from the 86 rom would be my suggestion, unless we get more than 10 attendees interested in playing.

Also, Barton, you're coming.

Console IS the way to go...I just didn't know what turnaround time was for getting them on a cart...

1986 rom is fine by me... what is the turn around time on that, I wouldn't mind an extra copy party favor style.

And if you guys make it, we'll can do Friday night in Chicago.

Keep the thread posted on what this Friday night in Chicago might bring...

I still might want to try to make it down there...

Unless this thing picks up steam and guys want to come to Milwaukee Friday night, there is Cards/Brewers game that night, we could tailgate get drunk at the game, some then can go out and kill the town, others can retreat until Saturday...

We could probably roll into the bowling alley before noon if anyone is interested in starting earlier. The guy is pretty fleixible, he has not idea what's about to hit the place but he's flexible.

If you guys make it up to Milwaukee at any time on Friday night, I'd probably come out for a few beers... ...although I need to save myself for the all day drinking on Saturday so it wouldn't be too big of a mess.

We'll see what the numbers and timeline is - initial guess is that we'll stay in Chicago on Friday, up to Milwaukee on Saturday am.
