Post by: Turd on 04/09/13, 12:20:50 AM

Email address
Any preferred changes to the ROM (keep them reasonable, please)
Juiced or regular
Pay via paypal or check

Total availability:
5 black carts, 2 gray, 50 bucks and first come first serve.

Availability if the current orders go through:

Can I get this on a grey cart instead.  I never liked the black, because it was harder to wiggle around inside the NES.  Not a big deal, but the little indented area of the grey cart made it far easier to slide the cart around to create the best connection with the pins inside the NES.

Still not sure if I'm going to play this myself or give it away as a gift.

Can I get a glimpse of the back of the RBI box as well?   Where the hell did the boxes get made anyways?

I'm chock full of questions today that i could PM, but I think need addressed for the non-regulars that stumble upon this thread.

Are these going to be made individually,(as orders are received) or are you waiting to reach a particular number of carts ordered before they are made?  When we got the original arcade version onto carts, Joe Dirt received payments for 10 of them before placing the order.  Those however did not come with box art though, which im sure drives up the price a bit....but a good investment all around imo.  Those boxes look amazing.

Made to order. The price is actually 50 dollars a cart also (shipping is included). No donor cart is needed, and yes gray carts can be done. Currently I have 4 black donors and 3 gray available.

What you get is:
1 cart
1 box protector
1 12 pt card stock glossy box.
1 foam or paper box insert  (haven't decided yet)
USPS shipping.
One part I'm not sure on yet... I'm trying to get my dye cutter setup to shoot out some paper dust selves also but that part is up in the air.

also, I make the boxes. They are printed on 12pt high gloss card stock and I also cut them via a dye cutter.

TURD,
I'm in for one or two, I'll decide by the weekend. Just a quick question can you clarify the dif between juiced and normal? Is it just an across the board jump in power numbers for all hitters?

The box and cart look amazing

The only thing tht's juiced is in single player mode, the computer controlled fielders are faster and have stronger fielding arms, so no more stupid slow rollers getting by them.  Everyone else uses their attributes to control the game (power, curve, etc).  The way I play the juiced is to pitch only strikes (but still allowing curve) and just play the rest of the game normal...I also don't cheat by baiting them to run or whatever, and don't take too many extra bases if it doesn't make sense.  It can be a pretty difficult game!

Broiler, sorry, I didn't mean to ignore you, someone else asked the same question over PM and I responded, I forgot you too had asked...

I would actually lose money if I did the 2/cheaper deal...with such a small number of initial carts, it's difficult to work that in, there's no real margin wiggle room there.

I think if we can get hold of more stock we'll let you guys know...

I'll get a list of who has paid later today.  Since there is a waiting list here, if people haven't paid by end of day tomorrow, I'm going to bump someone up on the list...if you haven't piad cause you don't have the address or paypal info, let me know!

Thanks CurtFlood...I had made that box last year and planned on just releasing it with the ROM, but then Jaker came along and has taken care of the printing/box folding stuff...the protector and foam insert and all that, it's really becoming a top notch operation.  We plan to hopefully continue this and maybe expand next year...

This first limited run is about all the both of us can handle at this point until we get a better process down.

That would be terrific! The work you do and the love you have for this classic game is unrivaled. Best game in nintendo history hands down in my opinion. Possible best game in the history of games period point blank. Basically it'll be just the Mets. Harvey for Marcum(boost Harvey fastball). Valdespin for Hicks(boost valdespin speed)  and I know he isn't up yet and he broke his foot yesterday but D'arnaud for Recker (give D'arnaud Daniel Murphy type ability) really appreciate the work you do. Let me know what you need.

Also, I hope Arnaud gets called up soon, he's sitting on my fantasy team's bench just waiting for the callup...

My carts arrived yesterday. Good packing for the Games. Superb artwork! Turd and Jaker did a bang up job. I've been too busy to fire up the game so far as I'm getting ready for saturday's event when a few old friends will join me for a mini (just 4 of us) RBI 2013 tourney with the winner going home with one of the carts. Details from the event and better review of the game and (packaging, artwork, etc.) will come next week. But for those of you who have ordered yours,  you won't be disappointed.

My first reaction is that I wish I got the juiced version, I guess I was worried about straying from the original. But really, 99% of the time I play two player so it's kind of a non issue
Title: Re: RBI Baseball 2013 Boxed Cart - Order thread

So are the power and contact ratings reflective of their BA and HR numbers?

How do you chose which starting pitchers get the two slots?

Also, is there a reason why Belt is called Beltre or something?

Title: Re: RBI Baseball 2013 Boxed Cart - Order thread
Post by: Turd on 05/01/13, 06:46:00 AM
Yes they are...it's a simple system that stays pretty true to the original game.  No player is better than 954 power (Dawson power).  Speed is based off of triples and SB.  If Beltre is misspelled, that sucks. I probably had beltre typed into my spreadsheet and when I started typing Belt it autocompleted to Beltre and I missed it. Dammit.  I don't have a QA team, so there are bound to be a few errors just like the original game had guys batting from the wrong side...Anaheim is all caps in attract mode too, just something I missed.

The two pitchers that get chosen are a combination of Fantasy Sports rankings, mlbdepthcharts, and community suggestions.  Mostly if I don't have enough data I just use MLB Depth Charts.  That's why I ask for dee-nee team expert feedback before I release it. Sometimes people know better than what is actually on the 'net because they follow a team.

Sorry for the delay in posting this, it's been just crazy busy at work.

Ok so I ordered two carts (one of each version). The carts look great-- I got one grey (juiced) and one black (normal). The packaging is also incredible. Great work on that both you both.

As for the Gameplay, I had mini-tourney with some college buddies two weeks ago.  The tourney went well and everyone dug the new 2013 carts. Since we played 2-player mostly the normal vs. juiced rom didn't matter. I even gave the winner one of the new 2013 carts and they were very happy. If it means anything I gave out the normal cart because when I play 1-player I now always play juiced. Sometimes I'll hit a clear double only have to race back to 1B because the COM fielder is too(?) quick but overall I think the juiced version makes the game way more competitive. I mostly play as the Red Sox. Lester has been horrible for me in near every start, he always gets shellacked with is a bummer. [Turd I might beg you to mod a personal version of the rom and improve Lester's stuff (and maybe 1-2 other things) just for my own tastes]. However the best pitcher I've used in Buchholz... in 2-player he's been pretty good but he is a STUD in -player. In the five 1-player games I started him he averaged 12ks in 5 innings with maybe 2 hits and no ER. Beastly.
Some other Red Sox notes: Salty has been (predictably) the best guy off the bench, and other than his speed Ellsbury has been very Spike-Owen-ish (that's pretty bad). Papi hits atleast 1 HR per game. Other than that no standouts as great or horrible and that's probably as it should be.

I'll try to get in a bunch of games as different teams in the coming weeks and maybe add some more.

All in all both the packaging/labels and the rom are high quality. If anyone hasn't played the rom I'd recommend it and if the guys opt to produce any more carts I'd highly recommend it.

Thanks for the review, Vegas! Looking at the numbers, Lester is a 5/5 guy for curve left/curve right, with a 92MPH fastball and standard 40 for stamina.  5/5 is not good at all...he boasted a 4.82 ERA last year and a 7.3 K/9...5 for opposite handed curve isn't bad, and pretty standard, but with that 5 for his dominant (left) curve is killing him.

As for Clay, he's a 8/5 (I always list dominant hand first) guy with a 92 FB and slightly higher normal speed.  8/5 is pretty close to average or slightly better...

My pitcher curve ratings stay pretty true to the original constraints of the game.

Saltalfdka;sfjdasia has an 853 power rating which gives him a 917 in his first AB off the bench, so yeah, he's going to be a boomer, and a nice fill-in should you decide to start him...

Thanks again for the feedback.  I get more satisfaction out of doing a ROM when I hear people talk about it...often I go searching for blogs that mention it...the buzz is not as high this year as it was...

I forgot to mention another note the uniforms. The color palate is so restricted that to expand this from 10 teams to 30 really made you walk a tightrope for choosing uniform colors that didn't mix up teams and also didn't get lost into the background of the game. I think you did a great job with this. The colors pop! I like using the Chi-Sox because that black/white is so crisp. Nice work on the color schematics of the game that likely are of lesser concern to players (until they cannot discern the player from the outfield or the batters box, or...) but really add something to the playability and aesthetics of the game.

Another note: The Angels might be the best hitting team. I played with them last night and Trout, Pujols, Hamilton, Trumbo and Ianetta (sp) were crushing it. If I was playing in  tourney again I'd likely choose them for the hitters alone. Maybe after folks get more time to try out the rom we can rank the offenses/pitching, etc.  (I need to follow the fantasy BB 2013 rom thread and maybe the box scores will offer some insight into that).

Believe me, that was really tough to do.  I had to use pink for a few times but I think it still works...the only one I'm not happy with is the Marlins, but I can't think of a better combination.

I do have a hack where you set everyone to a grey jersey and then it automatically makes the home team's jersey white...I don't included it here though because it's only really important for 2P games, as 1P the user is always the away team.

Team data for LOS ANGELES:
No Name   R/L   Avg  HR Cnt Power Speed Type
  =============================================
  01 Trout  RHB  .325  30  12   878   144   N
  02 Aybar  RHB  .290   8  17   766   135   N
  03 Pujols RHB  .285  30  18   878   124   N
  04 Hmlton LHB  .284  43  18   944   126   N
  05 Trumbo RHB  .268  32  21   888   125   N
  06 Kndrck RHB  .287   8  18   766   130   N
  07 Claspo RHB  .251  10  23   776   122   N
  08 Ianeta RHB  .239   9  25   771   122   N

1-5 on that team is nasty, except for Aybar, but he is pretty fast, so that helps...

P.S. If we get enough guys, we could do another "Online Championship Series Tournament."

Lester was a piece of shit in 2012, but I mostly blame his work out regime aka: beckett's plan of "chicken & beer". I see 2012 as an abberation so when I look at 3-year average with something like fangraphs (http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=4930&position=P (http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=4930&position=P)), I see a more accurate representation of what he should be doing. And his numbers for 2013, so far, seem to play out that way. That was my only issue. Of course I'm cherry picking, but fuck it, I'm an admitted homer for the BoSox.

Totally understand. One thing I do with my ROMs is make them represent a single year in time unless I have to adjust. I do think about tweaking my formula to use a a 3 year avg. well see.

I got a game of 2 player in against a guy who isn't good.  Prince Fielder hit my 1st home run and what was a close game through 6  innings which turned into a 10 run slaughter rule in my favor.  Everything played smooth and great.

I'm going to be heading out to Nate's tomorrow, so I'll get to play a little more of the 2013 version.  Then my buddy Curtis will be around for a few days, so I'll get more games in Sunday and Monday.  Those 2 are stoked beyond imagination about getting to play this.

The little bit i played against the computer left me feeling they are a little too fast on defense.  As mentioned a few posts up, that a sure fire double turned into a single.  I put one down into the LF corner by what would be the bullpen at Wrigley but could only get a single.   This is just a super minor gripe really, and I assume if they aren;t super fast in the outfield they probably still suck on grounders in the infield.   However playing the normal version of the computer is boring as hell.  This is really challenging for a change, and will make RBI far more valuable in 1 player mode.

Anyways, STELLAR work here and I urge everyone out there to at least get the rom and play it, if not the actual cart version of this.  The packaging of that box is really amazing.

Brad, that level of juice is just want I have found is MY sweet spot after testing a lot of different combinations.  I have the ability to tone down both the running speed and the throwing speed, but in my play-testing, this level of juice gives me still some opportunities to get doubles and the very rare triple in some cases, and I found that to be a good mix.  The only gripe I have with this level is that if you venture too far off the base, the fielder will super speed down the baseline to catch you, but it never really comes up.

I also have the ability to nerf the human player's curve and pitch speed, as well as boost the CPU team's power/speed/contact by a fixed amount per category, but I found that it takes away from the ratings I worked so hard on because the players lose their identity and become overpowered robots.  My juiced version seemed a good mix and provided enough challenge.

That said, if you want to play around with different juice values, let me know.  Either way, making single player RBI challenging was a huge win for the updated ROM, IMHO, and makes it so you can actually try to play a full season...

Thanks much for the reviews and nice comments, I'm pretty damn happy with this year's release.

If toning it down makes the computer easy to beat again, then its not a good idea.  Nate played the CPU and was in a close game through 4 innings then called it a day as he just wanted to see the Cubs for a few innings.  Finding out that the CPU juiced is quite the challenge.

In 2 player games, I had Detroit and Nate had Arizona.  Detroit won a pretty lopsided game.  From there Nate took Cal, and I had Philly.  Cal's bats went crazy as he won by a good 5 runs or so.

We recorded our games onto DVD.  I need to perhaps make an intro about the cart/2013 version, then show the highlites.

Best of 3 with a friend last night.  I had Detroit.  He had Rangers.  1st game was 4-0 Detroit.  A couple 2 run shots.  I don't know what Verlander's ratings are, but that guy gets it done.  He doesn't have anything stupid in terms of absurd curve or whatever, but he's just really solid.  Im not sure he's Bob ojeda quality, but he defintely seems to libve up to his real life counterpart.

Darvish of the Rangers apears to have the minimum stamina for a starter.

Rangers took game 2 like 4-1.  In game 3 we went scoreless into the bottom of the 9th and I think it was Cabrerra that went yard with a couple outs.  It was a bomb to the left field parking lot.  Somebody got a baseball through their windshield.

I am the absolute worst ever at remembering who hits the walk off, or knocks in the game winning run.

Turd can you link me to the player ratings?  I need to get those printed off and start making heads or tails of this version.

Never mind, I found the thread!  Sometimes you just have to open your good eye.

Played about 3 hours on Saturday night with some old college buddies.  It was awesome.  A few comments:

On the original we play a lot of NL vs AL games, so we are used to more homers

Had more pitcher duels on the new version

A lot of the games went extra innings

Love how both players can call time

Friedman on OAK had no stats

A bench player on SD had no stats

Glad to hear it...I just checked the ROM, Frieman is a rookie this year, so he had no previous year's stats, so that's why he's 0...as for the Dads, I don't see anyone on the team with no stats, but that said, it was probably a different team, and probably the same deal with a rookie...

I thought I had a good balance of baseball with these ratings...my games were all realistic scores, 5-3, 3-1, etc.  On my arcade, I won a game vs. a friend 16-5, but that's a little tougher to field on.

I don't know what Verlander's ratings are, but that guy gets it done.

                      <-Ability->  <---Speed--->
No Name    R/L   ERA  Snk  CL  CR  Snk  Crv  Fst  Sta  CPUL  CPUR

  13 Vrlndr  RHP   2.64   9   7   9   85   87  101   50   115   140

Not a bad line!

Darvish is the standard 40, so if you compared to Verlander who's a 50, he probably did seem to tire first...

Brad, I just looked, and Ojeda has the same curve rating as Verlandr...pretty cool it worked out that way...

I think next round of ratings, I might single out a few guys and give them Tudor-esque ratings...under my rating system, they probably won't ever reach those levels, but the CY Young winners and maybe a few others deserve to be bumped to that level of skill...

I was about to put out a version update, and after looking at the original ROM, here's how I'd break down some of the top pitchers from 2012:

Valenzuela 12/8
Krukow - 12/7
Tudor - 11/7
Saberhagen 11/6
Alexander - 11/5
Blyleven - 10/6
Key - 10/5

David Price 11/7 (from 9/6)
Verlander 12/8 (from 9/7)
Dickey - 10/5 from (9/6)
Kershaw - 12/7 from (9/7)
Gonzalez - 11/6 from (9/7)

Thoughts?

Well I guess I know my RBI a little.  7-9 curve is pretty damn good.  Thinking back, it also seemed like I could go pretty deep with Verlander, and his 50 stamina plays out.

I've played 5 games with Detroit, and Verlander is 4-0 so far.  His ERA is probably 1.00 or lower.

Yeah. I'm still thinking a few of the elite pitchers deserve Tudor level. What do you think of the changes?

Definitely roll with a couple Tudor type guys.
