The 2017 RBI tourney
https://www.facebook.com/OmahaTecmoBowl/videos/vb.1236523333032819/1451638521521298/?type=2&theater
Each tourney opens with 3 games of group play. Results from those 3 games determine seeding for the tournament.
Tournament will be capped with the top 24 players from group play. We've never had a turnout that big, so it's likely everyone will play 4 games minimum as usual.
Adding a 5th place game this year. The 4 losing players from the quarterfinals will face off to determine 5th/6th place. Players that reach the quarterfinals are looking at playing 6-7 games total for that tournament. Great value for most of the field in terms of playing a lot of Tecmo or RBI.
Tecmo Bowl is a single elimination tournament.
RBI becomes best of 3 when we reach the final 4. Both games will feature 3rd place game.
damn i always wanted to go to one of these
No Des Moines this year? That one is much more doable for me than Omaha. Shorter trip and I have a buddy I can stay with...
Won't be making it unfortunately - 6 weeks in Mexico, one week home, week in Ohio for wrestling. Will need a travel break after that for a bit...

Des Moines is a hard to pull off since It requires me to haul everything 2 hours over there. And harder to coordinate the flyers and everything else that's needed to make it a success.
Please move the date to next October so I can come and dominate!
New to this years tourney. The 4 losers in the quarterfinal round(final 8 players) will play to see who gets 5th place. 5th wins back 10 bucks. The highest seeded remaining player gets the lowest seeded player, and other 2 players face off. winners advance to play for 5th place.
5th and 6th place will play in 7 games of Tecmo or RBI. The people that get bounced out in the round of 16 or higher are looking at only playing 4 games at this event.
There's usually a lot of inexperienced players attending. It's not too difficult to reach the final 8, unless you were unlucky with your group play drawing. Nate Nate Nate drew the eventual champion, and Mike Beales(3rd place) in group play at the RBI tourney this year. He lost to both, and went 1-2. I think he still made the round of 8 though. His Runs differential was probably decent and would have gotten him one of the highest seeds for players going 1-2.
Hopefully doing a fundraiser for the childrens hospital at the tourney. I need to get an item or two donated. If anyone buys a raffled ticket, they get an extra one for free if they finish in the top 6 of either game. They can win an additional 2 tickets if they place in both. One of the canadians got 2nd in Tecmo and 4th in RBI. Only guy to place in both.
New promo video is posted with some footage from previous events.

Big Tecmo tournament coming up in town soon. I'd play but the entry fee is large and I'm not that good. I've gone and watched in previous years and it is rowdy and fun.

yes dang it's been a long time
2 different Chicago area guys have confirmed they are coming. A guy I know is coming for Tecmo/RBI and crashing at my place. The RBI cotut founder(Belaes) is coming for RBI, and has already booked his hotel. Beales got 3rd place in RBI last year, and last year's champion plans to attend. With any luck last year's 2nd place will be back as well.
I'm also working on a sports talk radio show host from Alabama. He's a big time Tecmo player. If he and his co-host can get a RV sponsored rental from a local dealer, they will make the 12 hour drive up here...and catch some NCAA tourney games on Friday as well.
Considering I will throw a few dollars in sponsored ads at whichever 4 NCAA tourney fanbases come to Omaha for the sweet 16, this tourney could have people from 8 or 9 different states attending!
Fuck yes Beales!

Fuck yes Beales!
Beales got 3rd place last year. A local guy named Victor took 1st.
The guy who got 2nd place(David) was in a bogus group and 10 runned all 3 of his opponents. He had the best point differential of the undefeated players giving him the 1 seed. That matched up Beales and Victor in a semi-final series, who were the best 2 players there imo. David was a legit 3rd best guy there though. He deserved to make a deep run, and a little luck on his side.
With these smaller tourneys and group play having a lot of inexperienced players it's not an ideal seeding metric. But it's what we have and does a good enough job. On occasion the semi-final is the defacto championship round.
Taking stock of semi final participants at the 5 Tecmo tourneys I've attended and how the best players finished...
Omaha 2016: Championship had best 2 players.
3rd place was clearly 3rd best player. 4th place was probably 5th or 6th best guy.
Left out? The round of 8 (4 vs 5 seed game) loser was easily a semi-final level guy. Bad luck with seeding. 4th best player there.
> Got 3 of 4 correct players in.
Des Moines 2016: Championship had 2 of best 3 players.
3rd place was 4th best player. 4th place made it via a fluke win and then got killed in semi-final and 4th place game by 35+ each time.
Left out? The 4 vs 5 seed game(round of 8 ) was the defacto semi-final game.
> Got 3 of 4 correct players in.
Houston 2016: Championship had best 2 players.
Semifinals Had 4 of best 5 players.
No 3rd place game, but 3-5 were all pretty interchangeable.
Columbus 2017: This was just a bracket of 32 players. No group play to start, so nobody got to set themselves up with seeding.
All I know is my 2 toughest games were in the semi-final and championship. However those were 28-6 and 27-0 wins, so it was a weak field. Its possible 3 of the best 4 players were in semi-final. However the actual 3rd place player lost early to a bum, and then advanced the rest of the way in losers bracket. 3rd place eventually beat my semi-final opponent. Without throwing a dumb pick in 1st half, i probably win my semi-final game 35-0 instead of 28-6. Good players don't get it handed to them like that. I had to slowly overtake my championship opponent, but it was over by mid-late 3rd qtr.
Omaha 2017: Had myself, Nate, and the 2 Canadians in the semi-finals so those were the best 4 players and all correct.
Nate did have a tough 4 vs 5 seed game in round of 8. Only won 12-7.
Group play overall gets most of the correct guys into the final 4. Watch out for the 4 vs 5 seed game!
The Madison one is insane, they have a huge field, I can't recall how many but I think they cap it at something like 120 players.

Madison's Tecmo super tourney had almost 300 players last year. With some satellite tourneys the night before this year, its probably going to be well over 300 players now.
They had something like 32 groups of 8 players last year. They run a mini tourney with those 8 players in each group and only the top 2 advance to the field of 64. Its brutal just getting that far in.
They have such a database built with all the national TSB tourneys that they create regions ahead of time with the top players getting put into separate groups, and then they fill out each group with good to mediocre to bad or unknown players. Its cool because to get a favorable draw in a group, you need to be a legit established player with a tourney resume.
Madison recently had a guy win the tourney in back to back years, and he did so against the same opponent in both championships. Those 2 guys had a pretty good couple years of TSB, when you consider the size of the field and how hard it is just to get into the round of 64. Those 2 guys also met in the finals ina Dallas tourney this summer. TSB has a pretty deep field of something like 50-100 guys that are capable of winning Madison.
RBI promo video. I failed to get a good shot of the guys playing RBI last year, so its all I got. Enjoy.

Nice promo video! RBI Baseball in warp speed.
Does your tournament use the one starting pitcher per game rule, unless there is extra innings?
Had 20 players enter Tecmo Bowl tournament, and 16 enter RBI. Those are my highest totals ever. RBI final 4 had players from Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois. Boom! Also had a guy from Kansas that nearly reached final 4.
RBI had a repeat champion. This guy has never even lost a single game and has 4 sweeps in semi-final/championship round in 2 years. Beales got 4th place. I got 5th place in RBI. My friend Curt, who I have played more RBI against than anyone else, got a 3rd place finish.
As for Tecmo, I won a 6th straight Tecmo Bowl tourney. Nate Nate Nate got bounced out in semi-final of Tecmo for 2nd consecutive year in Omaha tourney.
There are many pics and videos I will post later. Registration list shows we had 26 total people play in the 2 games.

He is! I lost to him in the finals and it wasn't even close. He does everything well and makes few mistakes. Having not played another human in 4 or 5 years did not help me!
Brad ran a great tournament! It would be cool to see this event grow even bigger next year!
Would absolutely love to attend, will do my darndest for next year. March is tough because of the wrestling trip though....

When I attended the RBI tourneys in Chicago/Columbus there were always a few guys there that were clearly on a different level than the rest. Joe Dirt and Mark Bridges come to mind as guys I have played. Dirt has named a couple other guys that were at that level. Beales mentioned trying to put together a tourney this summer.
Threw this video together. Meant to get better video, but I really should have had someone on tap to just come in and record, record, record. Instead I just had the scorekeeper get a few walk arounds. A guy at the tourney is in video production and suggested I stage a set up with TVs/Systems and we do a professional shoot. Get the lighting right, proper angles, all that. I'm interested in doing that to promote future events.

fly me out/feed me and i'll do your videos. they'll def look somewhat professional
Nate Nate Nate and I have only met once in 4 tourneys that we've attended together (Houston title game). He hasn't fared well against really legit but less experienced guys in Aaron (Des Moines IA 2016) & Mort (Omaha 2018), and those are black marks on his resume. Had he taken care of business and we played in 3 championships, he probably wins 1 of em against me. Nate is a tough match-up for me, but when he got upset by Mort 7-3, I got handed an easier opponent. I rolled 20-7 vs Mort, and had it in the bag by late 3rd qtr, up by 3 scores. Nate's knowledge is top notch, but he tends to stumble in big games against unorthodox opponents. Before anyone dogs Nate, the guy is 22-1 in a tournament setting against people that we don't know, and/or haven't played before. Dude rolls most people, and is one of the best players out there.

18 inning game I fkn lost 1-0. Dominated in hits, and based on how the last inning went, looks like I only have up like 3 hits through 17 innings, before finally giving up some in the 18th. This game basically halted group play as everyone else sat around and watched the conclusion. Sucks I lost, but I beat this guy for 5th place later that night. I had a runner on 2nd or 3rd quite a few times, but just couldn't get it done. Also a win here would have gotten me a top 4 seed, instead I was like 6th or 7th seed, and had to face Beales in the quarterfinal.

Richie on left getting it done! This guy went 0-4 and got his balls stomped on by a score of like 150-10 last year. With my tutelage, he went 2-1 in group play, only losing a 7-3 game to the overall 1 seed, and then won a tourney game. Eventually lost to Nate and Ben(5th place), but made great strides in his ability.

No not really. I own 4 AVS systems which basically give you a perfect 720 res image and perfect color, with no lag. According to the tech heads, the AVS replicates original nes to crt tv game play response when it comes to playing on new TVs. Those are however $200 a pop.
The hyperkin top loading systems ($40) aren't as good in terms of sharpness of resolution, color, and sound, but I honestly don't notice a lag issue while batting. I've tested it with other RBI playing buddies, and nobody had an issue. I'm a dead pull hitter and still pull like crazy on a hyperkin.
In Tecmo Bowl, the only issue you face with Hyperkin lag IMO is on kickoffs/FG attempts when trying to get full power kick. I just adjust accordingly and haven't have an issue with it.
Hyperkins are not as popular in the Tecmo Super Bowl community, because they have some very precise timing routes to get a WR to jump on a intermediate route for example. There's also an art to the dropping back and tossing hail marys, where you need to throw a exact moment to get the best chance for a jump ball. The real legit TSB probbaly prefer
At my tourneys I recommend that when things get to the final 8, everyone uses the AVS systems.

No, I don't tire of winning. I went through a phase a year ago, where it was more relief than joy to win a tourney, but now I'm in a different place. More confident, but dealing with pressure filled stressful games late in the tourney is taxing. I'm asserting my dominance now, so that's great and all. However I know the caliber of player I'm facing with the other elite guys. A fine line could relegate me to 5th or 4th place finishes a couple tourneys in a row. Being the at the top is a spot I'm fighting hard to maintain.
I've lost head to head vs Nate and Derek over the course of a weekend...4 games to 3 for example. Ultimately I won the important tournament games those weekends. The losses were exhibitions on the couch the day before or after. I really think that when its just "a game" my focus is not always 100%. When shits on the line, mental clarity ramps up, and mistakes dwindle. Guess I'm a pressure junkie now.
The guy with the purple Wake Up shirt has a nice rack.
Oh yeah the AVS systems are great, was thinking more of the Hyperkin/Retrons.
tbt i'm glad it's fun again. i'm sure there's gotta be some pressure to always "show up" when you're also doing a lot of administrative work keeping these awesome events going
Wait, was this "Hyperkin HD in action. 720 resolution!" only $40 and it works with no lag?
He said didn't notice the lag in RBI and in Tecmo only in kicking.
