Leaning hard to run an ARCADE FRBI season. It's a lotta work, but I'll have time since I'll be having 7-8 weeks vacation soon. If it happens, the season will go fast and be done by November. 18-game season it'll be with 10 teams. The arcade rom has never been done for a fantasy season, so this is really exciting and novel! Nothing yet determined as far as dates for the draft and so on. Still in the idea phase here, but leaning hard to do it and wouldn't mind the work needed to run the league.
I'll just need one person to sim my games with of course proper and strict protocols to ensure integrity.
Ultimate posted the excel spread sheet in another thread, and I'll post mine with all the positions listed as per the baseball reference page.
And the draft and league will be by position only. That is, you'll need to draft a LF, RF, and CF ... not just OF's.
I'm interested but I definitely think we should wait until after the current FRBI season is done.

I talked to Tempo about that, he doesn't mind, so it's okay with him. The idea was to run the games in-between his games and have my season done by November or even earlier. It's the only time I can run the league since I'll have more time being on vacation. Also, Tempo's league may last almost a year, so by the time my league is done, there'll be plenty of the pie left!

I'd be willing to take on a partner. Assuming I do all the drafting and set the lineups, team colours and team name.

In that case TBG would be a great partner for you.
Rough version of the excel spreadsheet. I'll add some tabs by position and by RP/SP eventually. It looks like RF and 1B are really deep!
Who the fuck is Johnson and why is he the best player in the game?

Davey Johnson! Wouldn't say the best player, but he sure does have some pop for a second baseman! Those are his power and contact ratings according to the RBI editor rom for the arcade version.
Link to the player stats in case one is too lazy or afraid to download.

Bob Horner has been moved over to 3B in the excel sheet. He played plenty of games there to quality. Too much of an overload over at 1B as well as RF. Also, Dave Winfield has been moved over to LF to even out the LF's - RF is also too deep and Winfield has enough games started in LF to qualify. I think I may need to move another RF over to CF to ease the dropoff.
Undecided on the draft, but it's looking like the last week of August or the first week of September.

Have you considered just lumping outfielders together, or having players eligible at more than one position if they played lots of games multiple places? Real fantasy has that kind of multiple-position eligibility, and since the arcade teams are kind of all-time teams, there's not really any reason you NEED to force them into a single season's primary position.

I will be shuffling the OFs to even out the OF position for the sake of overall quality for the league. I will consider just lumping all the OFs together, but then that changes the degree of difficulty for the draft strategy. I'm 90 percent right now on drafting by position.
if the positions are going to be semi-arbitrary anyway, i think some players should have multiple positions. especially OFs. i can understand not wanting to allow a LF to play CF, but i think most corner OFs could play left or right

I think I have the OF positions set now. I moved around some of the outfielders to make the 10th to 12th picks for all fields seem like a give and take. We will definitely go by position.
Pinch hit bonus of 64 is being discussed of being taken away entirely. Thoughts?

About the errors setting. They'll be different for each slate of games and they'll range from low to hi.
About the hitting bonus, maybe go off and on every other slate of games meaning half the season with 0 and half the season with 64.

Why exactly are you doing all this? Just stick with the rbi defaults.
Yeah, I was actually thinking the boost should stay because it's popular and adds life to the game - scratch that dumb idea. As far as the errors setting on the Arcade default rom, they are defaulted to 0 for each team. So I think if they vary from week to week, it'll provide for some diverse entertainment and suspense. A 0 default to the errors would be boring. One week it could be 8, the next 4, the next 6 and so on.
shooty has a great point.
why exactly are you fucking with everything? it's not like we've even done arcade before
Well, I did explain in my last post. The only thing that needs fixing are the errors in the Arcade rom. Each team, by default, is set to zero and nobody wants that. Either I set it to a fixed number or vary the error settings from week-to-week for the sake of randomness and keeping the league fun - we have ratings expectations to meet!

I want that. Its true to RBI Baseball, Arcade style.

Aha, okay and good point. The past few seasons for the NES version, the errors were always altered for the season to give everybody the same setting instead of certain teams having a lower or higher setting. I was mistaken in assuming everyone would not want to have the errors setting fixed on 0. More input from other team owners would be helpful to this discussion. Yeah, maybe we can go zero errors rating - doesn't really matter to me but it does matter to me what everybody thinks. I want to run a good league and have a solid product, so the more input, the better we can all agree on things.
With these players, the offensive ratings should be higher than NES version, so no reason to add errors to add even more runs.
That would also save me HOURS of scorekeeping and inputting the statistics over the course of 18 games. The fire power in the arcade version is robust.
Here's what I'm looking at between the two excel files:
- The NES version features 12 players with a 900 power rating or higher.
- The Arcade version has 27 players with a 900 power rating or higher.
Both roms have exactly 46 players with a power rating of 840 or higher.
- NES has 67 players with a 800 power rating or higher.
- Arcade has 57 players with a 800 power rating or higher.
- NES has 13 players with a 140+ speed rating and four players with a 144+ speed rating which is the threshold for steals.
- Arcade has 26 players with a 140+ speed rating and thirteen players at or over the 144 speed rating.
I'm fine with pretty much any error rates - anything from arcade-perfect 0 to hilarious 20 is fine with me.

Reminder here. And if anyone has Ultimate's email, please pm that. If that date is a no-go for anyone, let me know. I'll release the official spreadsheet tomorrow.
Darky is there a final spreadsheet we should be looking at? When you setting the draft order?

Yeah, damn. I had to help the lady with so many things before and after work and didn't have the time to finalize the spreadsheet today. If it's not out by this evening, then sometime tomorrow. Draft order will be announced when the spreadsheet and draft thread comes out.
Been manually double checking the spreadsheet with Nightwulf's arcade rom ratings to make certain nobody's ratings are off.
The spreadsheet will be organized with different tabs representing all the positions - recall the draft will be by position and I have moved players around to add depth over at 2B, LF, and 3B - 1B and RF were just too loaded and I don't want to see Arcade talent be pinch hitters.
The season will go as fast as possible - talkin' 2-3 slate of games a week and will go back to recapping each game to give life, drama, and narrative to the season.
Draft order will be reversed/flip flopped from the last draft Tempo ran - Ultimate will fill in for Stu.
I'm going for a swim and all that, so as soon as I get back home, I'll finish up the spreadsheet and release it here and then in the draft thread which should also come later today.
Here is the official spreadsheet for the inaugural Fantasy RBI Arcade season. I'll re-post it when I create the draft thread. 9 days until draft day gentlemen.
How does a one day draft work here, I am used to the one hour time frames for the drafts. I know I won't be available from about 9am to around noon on 9/6/18 due to a work meeting.

There'll be a 2 hour draft window (between 9 AM and 9 PM forum time). If everyone has nothing going on that weekend Saturday the 8th, I'd like to continue the draft on that Saturday the 8th and then Sunday will be a break day unless people want to make their picks without a time limit and to keep things rolling. It'll be opening NFL Sunday, so no need to have divided attention that day. I'll get the draft thread up today for sure. So if anyone needs a person to send proxy picks to, find that person.
I can't see this working well.
We'll make it work. If Saturday the 8th of September (day 3 of the draft) is a "no way in hell", please say so. If that Saturday works, please say so. If nobody responds, then I'll assume it's a no-go and we'll continue day 3 of the draft on Monday the 10. Currently working on the draft thread here at work, so it's coming eventually.
Almost done with the draft thread. The draft selection window will be 30 minutes, not two hours.
