I don't know if we've done it before, but I want to have the poll to end all polls. Who is the best overall player in RBI? I put the 21 players people would most likely pick. If I missed someone obvious, let me know...
If we get at least 20 votes, then it will be official and added to the RBI Database (http://dee-nee.com/wiki) and the RBI FAQ (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/faq.shtml).
It would be nice if you gave your reason, but not necessary. Please don't vote twice if you have multiple accounts...
For me the choice is Reggie Jackson (http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Reggie_Jackson). He is to me easily the most dominating player in RBI. Granted, we rarely play All-Star teams but nobody comes close to Potatoes consistency. Darrell Evans is second in my book, but he's quite prone to the groundout to right. Potatoes is money...
I had to go with Darrel Evans, I rarely use the Tigers but my buddy uses them all the time and noboby has beating me more then Darrel McfknEvans, the guy is big time, all the time.
Reggie, because out of all those guys, he's the last i'd want to pitch to.
It was a toss up between Armas and Kirk Gibson, I play a ton with the Tigers and OctoFranco plays a ton with the BoSox, on one hand, whenever I come up with Kirk Gibson my line is "You can't get him out, just walk him" and 60% of the time he gets a double to right center, whereas another 20% of the time he just cranks a home run to deep right...But on the other hand, nobody consistently beats me more than Armas, sure he grounds out to the right fielder every now and again, but christ, without fail he hits at least two a game against me (and we only play anything goes, albeit one starting pitcher)
So Armas it was.
I would really like this puhl to be separated into Straight Pitch and ATG because it really makes a diff.
I'd say Jackson in Straight Pitch and Dawson/Bell/Murphy/McGwire (damn I can't decide) in ATG...
I went with Reggie. He makes the players around him better. You're so worried about him that you end up getting hurt by DeCinces, Joyner and Downing every time.
I went with my man Eric Davis. I based my decision on how well he hits and how fast he is. I think hes a good medium between the two.
Where was Fernando Valenzuela? =D
I cast my vote for Kimmy Gibler. Shit ton of power, above average speed. In my opinion, the total package.
It was very tough not voting for Reggie or the Rock.
This is a really tough poll...it's like picking your favorite album of all time.

Forgot about that one.... damn!
Jim "RBI" Rice is IMO, the best player in the game. Years of crushed HR's and doubles off the wall give him my vote.
i voted for hjose rice, but i have highly mixed emotions. for me it could be him, baylor, r jackson, or possibly even gary carter (i kick some serious ass with him)
and hey, not even a token nomination for a player on houston? you should have included pitchers, in that case, Ryan may have gotten my vote.
Thought about Mr. Burks... then I remembered that contact thingy.. ;).... so i went with Mr. October...
I debated for a long time b/w Jackson & Dawson. I finally broke down and went with Dawson. He has more speed, power, and better contact than Jackson. Jackson's one advantage is being a lefty. It was a tough call.
Gotta go with the Murph. Has tremendous power and above average average speed. Plus he gets the pinch-hitter boost for one at bat which puts him third overall for power in the game for that at-bat I think. He also has a pretty low contact rating.
No pitchers? This should be changed to best batter period, I'll assume it is and vote for the Hawk.
I have to go with DaEvans, Gibson is a close second to me.
It's Reggie, hands down. I can get totally fooled by a pitch and it's still a bomb. Plus, you better not even think about having a righty throw to him, it's a bomb 95% of the time, lefties are the only way to keep him in the yard (some of the time).
Raines on NL is the next best, but his being an all-star kind of disqualifies him.

I assume 95% is a huge exaggeration?
Anyway, not so sure what everyone has against allstars. Whenever we had house tournaments, all teams were fair game. And allstars were normally not any more effective than Ca, Bo, and Dt.
Raines is my favorite, but Dawson is the best.
Good responses so far, keep em coming! Changed it to "best batter in RBI" - thanks for the input...
There is no way that I want the Hawk up with the game on the line. Plus, he wants children to be like him and copulate. 'Nuff said.

Why? He has the highest (natural) power on the game. He has the highest power minus contact on the game. He has above average speed.

Overall, 95% might be an exaggeration, but I'd say over the last 5-10 games, I don't think a righty has kept Reggie in the park against me.

I mean against me, ie I am pitching to him with the game on the line. He was my choice for #1 overall hitter.

I see clearly now.
I went with DaEvans. He's a homerun waiting to happen. Reggie is a very, very close second.
i went with hJose.
I fear that sumbitch. When I have him on my team, I mash with him.
And he's a sexy beast.
I can't believe Jim Rice has 3 fucking votes. The guy isn't even the best player on his own team, for crying out loud. I'd rate Baylor ahead of him for sure and rate Armas just about equal with him. And let's not forget Tim Burks, either.

I agree. I didn't even realize he had that many votes 'till you brought it up. I can think of 15 guys off the top of my head better than Rice. And, right, he is the 3rd best on that team.
apparently nobody watched the fantasy season of RBI, the OC's george bell was the man, ATG style how is he not 1st in somebodies draft after what we all witnessed.... don't hate on the all-star my friends.

Don't get me wrong, Jorge "Power Man5000" Bell is the man. And it is completely understandable that he could go on a terror in any given fantasy League.
However, sometimes you have to look at the numbers. Bell is probably only the 3rd best on Am. I would have to go with Big Mac and the Chemist over Power Man, since they both are faster and have higher power ratings.

Remember that the Hawk had a batting average of .730 during the season, almost 100 points higher than anyone else in the league.
This led to the quote, "even the best fanatasy RBI batters make an out 30% of the time"
Wow! That is an amazing stat for ATG against human players. I would think a .730 avg would be tough to do against the fckncomputer.
That .730 was from the fantasy season (all WATCH games)
it tends to help a ball player out when children copulate him :'(
Also, I've always found Jorge "ortega taco" Bell to be a bag of smelly ass.
Reggie.
So great in the late innings when pitching gets slow in curve pitch style gameplay.

Oh?
Probably even more remarkable the computer was able to bat .730 with a batter.
Yes, but you have to take into account that the CPU was also fielding. But still #2 was .632 so it was impressive.
Bump, hoping to get to 40...
