I pressed down when my brother attempted to steal 2nd the other night. He refused to finish the game.
Is doing that considered dirtass or not? What is the ruling?
Also, I've been gone for a while, hi!
absolutely legit
Legit and, in some cases, necessary.
Been awhile Mark...
I don't know why he thinks it's unfair. He is the one initiating the throw, looking for a free base. You can't do the "cheap" throw unless he uses a fast runner to "cheaply" get to second. Completely legit in my book, he can't beat the throw then don't steal...
In my opinion ANYTHING allowed by the powers of the game is legit. This includes ignoring the IF fly rule, playing players at wrong positions, etc....
The ground ball throw to second is totally legit. Let's not get started on the infield fly rule again.

You're brother's a bitch. Tell him to shut the fuck up and play the fucking game.
All these damned invented rules for this game pisses me off. Why don't you make a rule that Reggie has to use a half swing because he's too good?

Agreed on both counts. I say shut the F up with your precious little made up rules and play the game.
my buddy twice has abused the infield fly rule(or lack there of) to get a triple play on me. Both times I finished the game.

You should have bunted the runners over. :-\
Is it official everybody be a bitch week? I swear everyone that I talk to gets bitchy real quick lately. So whoever it was whining about the way you throw to second, NO throwing A and DOWN to second isnt illegal, and If you dont want a triple play then dont pop it up in the infield, I think its a gay rule in real baseball. Sorry but im venting. If the game allows it do it. damnit.

Can I get an Amen?!
Hell Yeah!
Tell your brother he lost the game and take it like a man. Too bad fatass Cecil Fielder isn't in this game. I'd love to see your brother try to swipe one with him.
No Cecil, but there is Gedman.
The only rule I play with is IF fly.
Because
1.) Its a real rule in baseball
2.) I umpire baseball for a living, and I call it in games
3.) It has a good purpose for being there.
I can read the actual explination from the mlb rulebook, but nobody wants to hear that, and everyone has their own opinions. That is why RBI is great, because it allows you to play with and without it =D

1. Metal Bats
2. Batting Players out of position
3. Not being allowed to retreat once runner is on the next base.
4. Thru-the-wall homers
5. Balls hooking around the fair poll called foul
6. Check swings are called strikes
7. All players must move in unicon
8. No DH on AL teams
9. Brett batting right handed
10. Bowling balls to throw out base runners
11. 10-run rules
12. More than one base on balls throw out of play.
13. Balls fielded in foul territory ruled fair
14. Only 4 pitchers allowed for each team
15. Fielders can only run 1 direction each time they pick up the ball.
16. Various glitches (ie.. runners called out during home runs).
This is RBI. This is not real baseball and definitely not MLB.
IF fly rule does not exhist. Until the little men in black call the batter out, there is always the chance I may take advantage of it.

Yep, thats why I stated that RBI was great because you can choose to play with or without it.
Wait, I always thought of the bats as the big plastic wiffle ball bats that little kids use...
plastic bats don't "ping."
when I play, I play with the IF fly rule. It's really the only one on that list of funky shit that you can control.
You can't control a wallzie or a foul being called fair, etc. You can call your own IF fly balls with out any trouble.
Of course, I won't go on a killing spree if my opponent wants not to use the rule.

I use several of these rules, so I disagree. I don't want to compromise the integrity of the game.
Apparently, water towers are still needed in the future. I guess it's because Marconi plays the mamba too much and drains the water supply.
I agree... plus, i really think making a good throw to second is faster anyways, and it seems to me those little fat asses slide slower than they run anyways... but throwing it to home is better i think for snatching it with your pitcher to catch ppl in pickles.
I don't like the throw to home move, and on average I admit it is a little faster... but I played agaist my brother today to test it and I threw out coleman 5/11 times and ozzie 7/11 times with an up throw to second and 5/5 times for colean and 4/4 for ozzie when he was stealing third (they were all on fastballs, when hes is holding in the steal button), and he is the fastest in the game... I think that the best A-up throw is better than the best A-down throw... but yes A-down is better for cutting it off with the pitcher
We use the infield fly, I don't care either way, we just consider it to be considerate, at the same time, I only take one base on balls thrown to the wall, again, it's just flat ouf considerate and that's the way I like to play...So when I win, I don't piss off the opponent to no end they leave or don't want to play me again.
I think it comes down to class in some aspects of these rules.
I also use the throw to home, and Vince and Ozzie are the only people that I've ever had trouble throwing out, unless of course my pitcher is done...
Also, there's never a reason that someone should outright steal third on you (outside of a run down)
yeah i agree with you on both aspects of the infield fly, and balls that go to the wall... if they throw it to the wrong base and no one is covering it may be different for me... but if their throw goes by a base and the guy don't catch it, i only take one base too.
you're saying it's not possible to steal third? with a fast guy (142 or better i would say) and a pitcher thats throws a ball in the 60's you can make it a lot of the time, unless he just guns it down there with a great throw...and we all know it's hard as hell to get coleman in a rundown
I'll have to do some more research, but I think a pitcher throwing 60 is usually too fast to steal third on, but again, your pitcher, more often than not, shouldn't be throwing 60 unless it's the 14th inning or something.
And, I never take more than one base, it's an accident whenever a ball goes to the wall, I wouldn't want them to take more than one base on me if I hit the buttons, so I don't do it to them...However, this rarely changes whether or not they do
EDIT: The "throwing to the wrong base" almost exclusively goes for online play where a bit of lag may mess up the buttons you hit...If you're throwing to a wrong base on the NES, you really haven't played enough

I agree. When playing (not online), I do not think it shows less class by taking as many bases as possible when a ball gets thrown by a "covered" base. This only happens on long throws where the ball is rolling by the time it gets to the base. This can easily be prevented by hitting your cutoff men and relaying the throw. I think this shows just as much lack of experience as throwing to the wrong base.
i hate when lag hits right when u press a button... kills me sometimes!

Yeah, I agree with you on that... I was refering to online, I guess... because I don't play the NES version too often anymore, beacuase their is not much competition for me
I would say the only time its possible i could ever throw to the wrong base is when i pick up a ground ball with my SS running into the hole, and I accidently throw it to third with my forward motion :o

I'm not gonna argue your research... cause i have not conducted any myself... i was just throwing out some numbers
But I think its possible that a pitcher throws in the 60's in his last couple innings, ecspecially on the knuckle ball and some curve...
-----------------------
and I'm not sure... but it is my belief that you get a really good jump on a knuckle ball in the dirt... anything to prove this?
I agree... i really think they put it in the code... not a better jump necessarily, but maybe they were implying somehow the catcher had to take that extra time to recover before he throws?

Or maybe, just fucking maybe, when there's a "knuckle ball in the dirt" it means that the pitch was going slower.
its possible... im not going to deny... maybe more probable... i was just saying.
I am never responding to you again on here, same goes for MR. RBI (however, I guess by saying "you" that also covers "MR. RBI"), I hope you enjoyed my last post to you, seems that nobody else is responding to you or your ghost either, wish I had done the same, but alas, I didn't.

first of all it shows you the speed when it hits the dirt too, and the ball disappears a little sooner before it gets to the catcher... there is no proof in my mind that says a ball that hits the dirt is any slower
but lets say a ball taht hits the dirt goes the same speed as knuckle that stays in the air... i think you get a better jump (slower catcher reaction or whatever you say it is)
Why would any ball hit me? ???
Also, I think he's saying a knuckle ball--not specifically a ball that sinks. All balls that hit the "dirt" are knuckles and are slower than non-knuckle balls.

Exactly what i was saying... i was saying 2 knuckes at the same speed, batter mite get the better jump becuase the game implies the catcher bobbles or something of that sort.
Thanks Unoobie
Yes, because RBI Baseball is so advanced that it takes into account a catcher's defensive ratings and their propensity for bobbling balls.

it takes into account the fact that you are farther towards the base when stealing if the pitch is slower... so why do you say it's not possible that it adds a little time for a ball that hits the dirt
and it even has players slide head first back into bases... and you're saying its not advanced... shame on you ;)
