Folks:
With shitpaw departing, we have lost 50% of the RBI Database workforce. I would REALLY like to get bios (small or otherwise) and RBI stats for all 160 NES players before the Columbus tourney. Shitpaw, as a final gift before moving, added categories to all the players. So here is the list:
http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Category:Players_in_NES_RBI
Pick a player and do 1 page every day or two. If you need a template, the two best player pages are my Rick Burleson page and Big Hath's Dale Murphy page:
http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Rick_Burleson
http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Dale_Murphy
They obviously don't have to be that in-depth, but good starting points. The Burleson page has a good template in terms of categories, I've been using it for most of the player pages I've done (mostly Ca and the RBI Legend pinch hitters).
Do your best folks, be it doing only one detailed player page or a bunch of little 2-sentence bios. I'm worried the db will die out with Shitpaw's depature, and we can't have it!
Any questions/comments/whatever, let me know...
Also, if player bios aren't your bag, then the Forum glossary needs plenty of terms:
http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Category:Forum_Glossary
This would be good to have to let people like OJ catch up with forum nomenclature quickly and easily. Searching 100,000 topics ain't all that easy. To do a new term, simply search for it and create a page if it isn't already there. Be sure to add [[Category:Forum Glossary]] to the very bottom of the page...
Thanks again...
gantry, i once tried to figure out how to register or whatever to start doing work on the DB, and couldn't figure it out. can you perhaps provide a link to said information?
You have to tell me specifially what trouble you are having. The first thing you have to do it click "Create an account or log in" in the upper-right corner. Enter a name and password. Once you get logged in, click the "edit" tab on any page to start entering text. Preview a page before you submit it to see how it looks.
Here is your first test:
http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Jose_Uribe
Simply add "Jose Uribe is the leadoff hitter and starting shortstop for San Francisco on the NES version of RBI"
Once you get that far, you are good...
ShitPaw left?
http://forums.dee-nee.com/index.php?topic=7340.msg120368#msg120368
My reading comprehension skills lacked there, but he's going away for a couple weeks. That's just enough time for people to stop caring about the db and letting it stagnate. Can't let it happen...
Ha! I have updated Jose Uribe! I feel so... empty... inside...
Quote from: Gantry on 06/08/05, 11:38:14 AM
Simply add "Jose Uribe looks like Alfonso Ribeiro."
I wanted to add an entry for "DOLT - The worst insult you can call a man." but I don't know the Dee-Nee origin or anything like that.
You crafty beaver!
If anyone cares, I edited the Uribe page to add the wikilinks. That was going to be step two for Strassy before Mr. Fancypants showed up and pissed in our tuna salad...
I think Dolt was used a bit on the forums, wasn't it? Feel free to add and let others fix it up. That's the beauty of the wiki, start small and build up:
http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php?title=Dolt&action=edit
Now I'm empty AND ashamed.
Have some tuna salad, cures what ails ya...
well, i figured out how to register (wow, that was easy) and I added information to the page on my personal RBI favorite, Spike Owen.
Alright, Dolt is there. http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Dolt
I made one for "fkn". Just wanted to try the thing out.
Well done folks...
GD - There was actually a fknmc entry already, I redirected "fkn" to "fknmc" and added your example to it...
And sign up for an account you fkndolt!
http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Fknmc
That's a pretty screwed up Fknmclink, there, G.
I guess I ruined Thanksgiving.
It wsa fine until someone came in, blanked out the page and added "bleh" to the discussion page. Time to lookup the IP address...
Page has been reverted to the old one...
I'm too busy thinking of new and creative ways to make fun of fknmclane. I'm sure that once the tournament is over I'll have more time...
Created an account, gone through and fixed some typos in the lineups. Not sure how I can contribute in terms of data, but I'm a user on the big Wikipedia as well, so maybe I can help on some of the more Wiki-based stuff. Will do what I can with the RBI players though.
Andy
I'll do a couple more, since my Wade Boggs page was an amazing sucess.
Awesome Andy, most appreciated. Many of the pages can use wikilinks and cleanups. Whatever you can contribute would be great...
Stubs, a great idea andy! Was goign to figure out how to make one of those, but doing it via a category makes perfect sense given the volume. This way people can go to the stubs category and see which pages need more info...
Mark - the fun facts for the Boggs page (http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Wade_Boggs) are quality, keep it up!
I'm doing "I'm Keith Hernandez" right now.
Okay, done..anyway to back up the wiki in case some pages get erased again?
http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Keith_Hernandez
Each page has an edit log, so you just have to revert to a previous version.
Since I'm too lazy to look, how exactly do you revert Andy? I copy/pasted a previous edit, but there is likely an easier way that doesn't have all the history formatting in it...
Mark - Nice work on Hernandez! Be sure and wikilink all the years (though if a year appears twice on a page only link the first one), because I'm starting to go through and make "Notable RBI events in 19xx" pages. Right now I typically add births, first game, last game and some of the notable events listed on each players transaction history on BR. Small now, but will grow like everything else...
I'm afraid if I do another one someone will come along and delete it again
Have no fear, the edit history is here!

1) Go to the page you want to revert
2) Click "History"
3) Click on the timestamp of the version you wish to revert to
4) Click on Edit.
5) On the edit page, it will warn you "WARNING: You are editing an out-of-date revision of this page. If you save it, any changes made since this revision will be lost." Type "revert edits by <vandalsname> to version by <goodname>" in the Summay.
6) Click Save Page. Voila - you've reverted!
Got it, a hearty thanks andy!
Done.
http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Bill_Buckner
Solid work Mark, added a few of Buckner's important dates to the RBI by Year category - like his MLB debut on the 1969 page:
http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/1969
Gibby.
http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Kirk_Gibson
how can we dispute the neutrality of articles, like on the real wiki? I tried {{NPOV}}, but all it does it display:
Template:NPOV
I don't know if the template system is in place. use the discussion for any page...
Nice work again Mark, you're on fire! Filling in some of the years now... From Mark's Gibby page:
Gibson was simply an amazing athlete. He attended school at Michigan State and set several records in baseball and football. He was an All-American football player, setting school records with 24 touchdown catches, 112 receptions, and 2,347 yards. The St. Louis Cardinals drafted him in the seventh round in 1979.

I had no idea, that is pretty darn impressive...
Those of us from Michigan know the legend that is Kirk Gibson. He was on out local Fox Sports playing flag football against some college kids. He was just blowing by all of them.
Holy shit, only four offensive players to go. A shit ton of work has been done since my last four. Of course, every page is far more impressive than the crap that I've done.
Mclane - A lot of those pages may be blank though, or just categories and pitchers. There are TONS of pages left to be done and added to....
Someone does need to be in charge of pitchers, my background precludes me from discussing an RBI'ers pitching prowess...
Well, I may be able to do some pitchers, as long as they're from the Big 3.
You go boy!
Andy made a Stub category, which will let you know which player pages need some updating:
http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Category:Stubs
There are some missing, but it's a good start...
Did Mike Witt real fast.
http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Mike_Witt
Nice work, I removed the {{stub}} since it's got plenty of info now...
Most of the cali players are done, they lead the race for a finished team...
Why are you bitches letting Mark do all the Bio work? Chop chop motherfuckers!
Gary Pettis
http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Gary_Pettis
Cleaned up Spike Owen
http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Spike_Owen
Pedrique finished.
http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Al_Pedrique
I'm working on getting a picture on every player's page
Did a bit on Mike Schmidt
http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Mike_Schmidt
This page (http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Dwight_Gooden) is funny.
Great work ShitPaw, and we welcome back the aviator. This weekend has given me plenty of dee-nee/rbi appreciation, so expect major updates on the main page and db front this week...
I really enjoyed reading that article about Marc Sullivan--a winner is you.
Looking very good Shitpaw... You should probably line up those extra Gedman picks horizontally a bit, will make the page a little shorter. Great work though...
Where are the rest of you bastards? One player page a week, is that too much to ask? We especially need pitcher pages...

I'll do a page when I get my cd. ;)
I'll get off my ass shortly. Going back to work on Wednesday so I won't be sitting on my ass all day drinking heavily and whatnot.
ShitPaw, you are a fknmachine!

There's a problem. You wear lemon party shirts in public.
Added the Gene Larkin page:
http://dee-nee.com/wiki/index.php/Gene_Larkin
For you dee-nee historians, I added a little more info about the origin of dee-nee:

I know you guys have been waiting for this, the Steve Lake page!
