I'm fairly sure I know USC's next pick based on the proxy list he gave me, but I guess we should wait for him to make it.

That would seem to defeat the purpose of giving someone a proxy list, no?

ultimate7

Well he gave it to me to use on Friday for use Friday and Friday night.  Assuming he wants a SP, I know which one he would want (I think).  Some of his recent picks haven't followed the list he gave me so I don't want to screw anything up.

last year nobody picked up witt.  i'm glad he's getting a chance this year.  (of course with ten teams, everyone will get a chance).  i've been thinking he could be one of the better pitchers.  we'll see what happens.

I think it's going to be interesting with having 10 teams and no Teams Suck and Blow. I hope this means that we see a lot more trades during the season.

i'm leaving now, but i can't do proxy picks since i'm too controlling and paranoid today as we get to the last rounds.  i'll check this again tonight and make a couple selections if i'm up.

Let's talk about the trade:

Nimrods send: Tony Pena and Jack Morris
The Unholy Legions of Doom send: Willie McGee and Don Sutton

I'd say that Ultimate7's strategy of drafting a lot of catchers paid off to some extent. He was able to trade Pena for a far better bench player (McGee), while I think that the pitchers were probably a wash.

However, I think that McGee was available to be drafted when Ultimate7 took Pena, so I don't know if the strategy actually made any difference.

yeah, mcgee was available.   you never know what people are willing to trade for though.  it was worth a shot.  all that being said, taking a THIRD catcher might have been a little over the top.

I felt Ashby was the best hitter left

As far as drafting strategy goes.  Once all my pitchers were off the board, I went after Pena because I was pissed, but I knew it would give me trade bait.

I decided I wanted Witt or Sutton with Sutcliffe, and I thought that might happen without drafting pitchers, in the mean time I was able to get better picks for my bench the whole way.

I'm not sure I'd rather have McGee off the bench than Pena, I think it's mostly a wash.   I just didn't want Jack Morris, not that I dislike Morris per se, I just think the game vastly underrated him to be the worst watch pitcher, now watch him win Cy Young.

as i've said before, i'm really curious as to what the angels staff could do seeing as they weren't drafted last season.  i was not willing to take the risk myself, but i want to see if the way i rank them matches up with their performance.

other thoughts:  is there any chance canseco can be as poor this year as he was last year?  can buckner repeat his tremendous output?

this is the best part of any baseball season, everybody has a chance.

Can Brookens continue his All-Star level play this season? That's a huge question this season. And will Potatoes be as mediocre as he was last season?

Did Doc go on a coke binge in the offseason or will he return to last season's form?

Winning my award for worst draft pick:

#127 - Donnie Moore

There were plenty of reasonable relief pitchers still left

it's hard to tell which relievers will do well.  i'm really curious about all the picthing data we'll see this year and be able to compare it to last year.  i believe there was some flukes, but of course i think doc will repeat.  only time will tell.
