Batting: Moving away from the ball or towards the ball?

How do I find the old thread that discusses if moving away from or towards the plate affects hitting ability?

I have my own theory on this now and like to see if it jives with the masses.

I think the only thing that matters is where on the bat the ball makes contact, because in terms of the game, the batter is only in one place the instant the ball hits the bat irrespective of where the batter was coming from

Lies...if that was true, then why does moving your guy when you are bunting affect where the ball goes.  i.e. if you have a lefty and move him away from the plate, the ball will go down the third base line.  Move him towards the plate and it goes down the first base line.

Bsed on this, and applying my hitting theory to game situations, I believe it does affect batting.  I will expand more once I can find the old topic so I don't sound too ridiculous.

Indeed.  However, what are the search words to use?  I tried a few options, but came up empty.

Anyway, moving towards or away from the plate affects your hitting.  Its a fact.  That is all.

LOL...I'm not saying its a huge difference, but we can all agree (I hope) that moving the batter while bunting affects where the ball goes.  Correct?  Now if you extrapolate that same reasoning the a full swing, what you will notice is that moving away from the ball makes the ball go more to the opposite field.  A Righty can still hit to left field with a earlier swing, but all things being equal, I believe my that backing away from the plate makes for worse hits (if you subscribe to the theory that opposite field hits garner less power).  Conversely moving towards the plate while swinging will make the ball go more to your power field (i.e. less opposite field shots, ergo better hitting power). 

I know this is a controversial stance and I may be lynched, but in the name of Copernicus I can be quiet no longer.

I sorta think the moving bunt is true only because it helps you get ideal bat-on-ball placement for a bunt...

I agree, to me bunt directions are based on the angle of the bat and where/when the ball hits the bat.
