Eastern League Championship series
Boston @ Detroit
Game 1:

Tigers come out smoking hot and pound Clemens 6-2 behind 6 solo shots.
Trammel leads of the game with a home and Nokes hits one out in the 1st as well.  Detroit took a 4-0 lead after 3 innings.

Game 2:
The game is scoreless until Chet Lemon homers in the 5th.  Burks solo shot on the 8th puts Boston up 2-1.  Bob Stanley comes in to save the game, but with the bases loaded just misses on a full count pitch to Gibson to walk in the tying run.  Evans adds a single to right to put the Tigers ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the 8th.
In the 9th King gets Rice, Baylor, and Evans to either line or ground out to shortstop to preserve the win and send Detroit to the World Series.

The RBI World Series will pit the A.L. vs Detroit in a best of 5 series.  Games 1 & 2 to be played at A.L.
Games 3 and if necessary game 4 will be played at Detroit.  A game 5 would be played at A.L.

Stat of the playoffs:  The home team went 8-0.  During the regular season the home team was only 28-32.

Both Detroit and AL were 3-3 at home and 5-1 on the road during the season.

Realized this never got posted

The teams line up about where we thought they would but the records weren't as good as we expected for some.

RBI world series-best of 5
Game 1:  DET @ AL

Scoreless through 3 1/2 innings Ripken goes yard and AL gets up 1-0.  Ripken's 2nd homer puts AL up 3-0.  Brett and Bell add solo shots and the AL wins 5-1.

Game 2:  DET @ AL
Mattingly's 2 run homer in the 1st is followed by Canseco's solo shot and AL takes a quick 3-0 lead.  Mark Mcgwire's solo in the 2nd puts AL up 4-0.  The Tigers start to chip away with 1 in the 3rd, and chase Righetti from the game.  Saberhagen pitches well through the middle innings.  Whittaker's solo shot in the 7th is followed in the 8th by an Evans home run and AL's leads shrinks to 4-3.

Henke is the last AL pitcher and starting to show signs of tiring in the 8th. George Bell knocks out a solo in the bottom of the 8th to put AL up 5-3.
Madlock leads off the 9th with a homer, and Detroit is within 1.  Lemon hits a ball to the wall which is caught.  Heath subs in but gets called out on strikes.
Brookens lines a double to right center, but Eric king pops out to end the game.

AL leads the series 2-0.  Game 3 will be played at Detroit.

Game 3 @ DET.   AL loads the bases in the 1st but comes up empty.  Madlock in the bottom of the 1st jacks a 2 run shot out of the park....but its called foul by a freaking megapixel!

AL gets 3 in the 5th for a 3-0 lead on the heels of a Bell HR.  Detroit answers with 4 in the 6th with base hits by Trammel and Gibson and a Darrel Evans 2 run HR puts them up.  Mark McGwire's 2 run homer in the top of the 7th gives AL a 5-4 advantage.
Tigers are unable to score the rest of the way and AL wins 5-4, and takes the series 3 games to none to claim the championship.

The home team who went 28-32 in the regular season rattles off 10 straight playoff wins before the AL takes game 3 on the road.  Pretty uncanny run for player 2(home) there.

I'll have to conjure up some sort of newspaper deal like we do for the Tecmo Champs.

Afterwards we talked about employing a stipulation in these best of 3 series that forces continuity in terms of who the starter is in game 1 of the next series.  If the ace takes the hill to win game 3, then hes not available in game 1 of the next series.   Of course every series was a sweep so that wasn't applicable, but going forward I think its a good idea.   Especially with byes going to the Division winners.

We're talking about doing one of our big ass 10 team tourney/double elimination deals.  That would have an onslaught of best of 3 series, and the whole pitcher rotation stipulation would come into play quite often.  The caveat may be that if team A gets a sweep, and team B goes 3 games, then team A can reset the rotation any way they want for that series, because of the extra game off.

Sometimes that would help the underdog with rotation match-ups and sometimes it would further put them in a bind.
