This is a shitty poll.  Names mostly off the top of my head, and of course you can only pick one.

I posted this link on the anything goes forum, but Benito needs to be mentioned in this forum as well.

What do you mean.  It's the last option.  It's been there the whole time too.   ::)

This thread sucks.

julio franco is too old to have taken steroids... any roid freaks would have died long before reaching his ripe old age.  i mean, ask ken caminiti about it.

I think the coke hurt Caminiti more than the steroids, but Franco is pretty old.

The reasons I think Franco might have used steroids are:

Franco has bulked at the same rate as guys like Sierra, Big Mac, and Bonds.  Comparing pictures of him in his first five years to him recently is a lot like comparing McGwire's and Bonds's '87 topps cards to pictures of them now.  It's normal for rookies to get bigger, but not like these guys did.

In 1992, Franco had a knee injury when he was in Texas with Ruben Sierra (2 of 5 hispanic-born starters - good friends).  Sierra went to Oakland that year, and played with the Roiding Bash Brothers.

As he recovered from his injury, he bulked up noticably.  His numbers stayed the same, except for the stolen bases.

Neither Sierra nor Franco ever improved their numbers dramatically, but have kept playing as their contemporaries have retired.

The problem with the steroids issue is that it's hard to prove who did or did not take steroids 10 or 15 years ago, and the best way to judge is to look at their size and numbers.  I'm probably wrong about Franco and Sierra using steroids, but I think their history shows that they could have been using.

I don't know if he used steroids, but now we have to question guys who play longer than they should and guys who bulk up all of a sudden.

I'm questioning my old stance on Franco though - maybe he just works hard.
