I found some new nicknames:

Jose Cruz:  Cheo
Jose Oquendo:  The Secret Weapon
Mike Schmidt:  Iron Mike

Still no nicknames for Boone, Herndon, Lombardozzi, Smalley, Davidson, Gladden, Wilson, Uribe, Brett, or Santiago.

George Brett:  Lou (childhood nickname - he liked looney toons) and Mullet (early in his career)

Uribe has always been called "Ju Ribe"...as one of my friends called him that after not realizing the J was for his first name.

I've never heard of this.  Is this your friend's nickname for him?  Any inside joke for you guys?

I used to go to Giants games, and on several occasions Uribe was met wth the chant "YOU....  REBAY....  YOU.... REBAY....." (spelled phoenetically).

Nino, however, is valid.

In general, these should be nicknames they are given by RBI players, not their baseball nickname, right?

So that was his baseball nickname?  No seriously I think Gantry's crew may have called him that or just said that when he came to bat, or else they didn't have a nickname for him so it was just a joke.

Nicknames from dee-neers override genuine nicknames.

I would say that genuine nicknames override having no nickname.

We didn't have many nicknames for players growing up.  Except for the aforementioned "Ju Ribe", the only others were:

*Jim Lindeman was "Lim Jindeman" - for no apparent reason
*Charlie Kerfeld was "Ker-plunk" because he hit so many batters

We had the same one for Eric Plunk.  I'm a big fan of made-up nicknames.  Nicely done.
