03 Rom - Very early Beta

OK folks. This is a VERY BETA version of the rom. I wanted to finish it before releasing it, but my computer just died yesterday & I won't have one for anoter week. So I'm asking everyone to take a look at it & suggest changes. Post them here & I will add them in when I get the chance. I will also use Nightwulf's trick to make the ERAs more realistic. (Thanks Nightwulf!)

I want it to do a few things with this rom. The first is to have the teams represented as they were at the end of the year. This way you can relive the '03 playoffs. The second is to have the teams relatively even. Of course some teams will be stronger than others, but that's how the league is.

Looking only at the players as a whole, I found Boston & Atlanta to have a huge power hitting edge over everyone else, so I dwarfed them a bit. I did the same to the Yankees & the White Sox. Some teams that were poor hitting teams got an extra boast for their pitchers.

Let me guess you're a cards fan?

Seriously, it's really very close. Houston has more guys with 20HR+ or .500SLG+. While STL's combo of Pujols & Edmonds would be devastating, they have a less complete lineup than Houston. Houston has 2 dead spots in their lineup, while STL would have 3.

In any case Houston did have a better record, as did Philly, and LA had the same record as STL. If Houston were devoid of any power, I would have done it (like I did with Seattle/CWS). I think Houston is a pretty good team.

Long story short, but I had to do that in the Excel sheet, because when I created the rom using Nightwulf's editor, I put the White Sox before the Cubbies. Where my Excel sheet had them the opposite. So I had to change the abbreviation in the excel sheet & that's the first thing my brain came up with.

Thanks for the compliment, I will work on it a little more, once I get my new PC.

I'll have to think about this. I can see that Oswalt should be their #1, instead of Redding, but I can't think of a good reason to have Miller on the team instead of Redding. Or at least I can't think of a great reason.

Redding has about the same IP, G, & WHIP, but his ERA is a whole half point lower. This in his first full year. If we're talking about the '01 or '02 where Miller was about 15-7 with an ERA in the low 3s, then I'm game, but I'd really like to know why you think Miller should be the #2 over Redding.

I'm not really basing it on stats, last year when the Astros had thier pitching lined up the way they wanted it was a Miller/Oswalt 1-2 punch. Miller had a down year last season but given the choice of who to send out I think the Astros would choose Miller...plau I hate Redding b/c he's a jackass.
