The yearly Alec topic returns! Finally got in some games tonight. I don't feel like going through everything again, the useful stuff is at the beginning of the sophomore year topic, but long story short...

Me + my friend play lots of RBI ever since freshman year.

We burned a 2004 rom to a cartridge and play almost exclusively that now, him as Yanks, me as Sox.

World Series every year, he won the first 3 (4-1, 4-1, 4-3), I finally won one the last time around in 7 games.

Now I'll try to build on my momentum and kick some ass this season.

Game 1: Duque @ Schilling
With two outs in the top of the first, Hideki Matsui hit one that just cleared the center field wall. That would be all the scoring, as El Duque no-hit the Red Sox through 7, facing the minimum as David Ortiz was caught stealing and Jason Varitek grounded into a double play to erase him both times he reached base. Manny Ramirez struck out to end the bottom of the 7th, the 12th Red Sox strikeout of the night. Rain forced the game to be called in the middle of the eighth inning (aka game froze).

(2-0, 8 innings)

Game 2: Pedro @ Duque
After failing to get a hit in the previous seven innings, Johnny Damon hit a leadoff double on the first pitch of the second game and reached on a Manny Ramirez sac fly. The Yankees got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Jeter singled and came around to score on a Matsui groundout. However, El Duque ran into some trouble in the 6th, as after Nixon grounded out, Mueller and Roberts singled. After they moved up on a Pedro Martinez sac bunt, Damon was intentionally walked to load the bases. With two outs and the bases loaded, notoriously light-hitting Orlando Cabrera lofted a ball that shadowed the foul line before hitting the foul pole a foot above the wall for a grand slam to break the game open. Manny followed with a homer and Ortiz scored on a Varitek double to make it 7-1. The Sox put up another 6 run frame (on homers from Manny and Millar) in the 5th to win 12-2 by mercy rule.

(12-2, 9 innings)

Game 3: Duque @ Schilling
Duque came out guns blazing again in Fenway Park. The game was tied through 5 innings before Posada drove in Williams to make it 1-0. Then, **** went crazy. Doc Ellis's magical mushrooms rained down on the park, and everybody simultaneously began to hallucinate, seeing vague shapes of players, monsters, Canadian citizens, and everything except the ball (screen went crazy and purple and pink). Sheffield swung at a Pedro curveball, thinking that it was an attacking pterodactyl and launched it into the parking lot. Matsui then doubled on a ground ball to the pitcher, which apparently such a downer that everybody came down from their high. Williams and Posada grounded out back to back to drive in a run and make it 3-0. In the bottom of the 7th, Mueller singled and Dave Roberts doubled to put runners on second and third to lead off the inning. However, at this point the mushrooms rained down again, and Pedro, Damon and Cabrera all struck out when their hammers of thor were unable to make contact with the 85 mph dragons that were flying towards the bat cave behind the Unholy Panel of Thermidicles. At this point, there was a time paradox and everybody blacked out for the rest of it (aka game froze). Shit was fucked up.

3-0 (7 innings)

Game 4: Pedro @ Duque
The Red Sox scored in the first on a Manny Ramirez homer to make it 1-0, but the Yanks tied it up on an RBI single in the 5th. It was a close game until the 7th, when the Red Sox scored 7 runs, led by Manny Ramirez's 3 run bomb and Varitek 2 run tater. The Red Sox got an inside the park homer in the 8th and ended up winning 13-1 in 8 innings.

Game 5: Duque @ Schilling
This one was a pitching duel for the ages. Manny singled in the first and 4th innings, both time followed by Varitek walks, but that was just about the only offense the Red Sox could pull together. However, the real story was Curt Schilling. He carried a perfect game into the 5th when Bernie Williams reached on a fielding error, and then carried a no hitter until it was broken up by Berrnie William's 11th inning single, ending 10 1/3 innings of no-hit ball. However, the Red Sox could not get any runs off of El Duque or Mike Mussina. Schilling was pulled for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the 12th (12 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 0 BB, reached on error), and was replaced by Pedro Martinez, who did not allow a batter to reach until Matsui homered with two down in the 15th. In the bottom of the inning, Ortiz got a leadoff walk, and Varitek followed with a single, but the left fielder threw to first and both runners advanced. Putting a pair in scoring position with no outs. Millar popped up on the infield for the first out, but Mueller lined to the right field gap to drive in two for the walkoff win.

1-2 (15 innings)

TbT

how do you get an inside the park home run against a human?

He gets frustrated and throws the controller. Or pulls it out. Or just doesn't play.

Also, Dave Roberts is ridiculously fast, I think I did pull it off a few times when he misplayed a shallow popup and it bounced over the fielder or by him or something

Only 1 game tonight...

El Duque @ Schilling
Damon led off the bottom of the first with a triple off the base of the wall in deep center and scored on a Manny Ramirez groundout. After the typical Ortiz walk, Ortiz stole second, and Varitek finally made them pay with an RBI single down the line. Nixon followed with a single, and Mueller followed up with a longball to make it 5-0. Bellhorn grounded out to end the frame.

Schilling, Damon and OCab went down 1, 2, 3 in the 2nd, but in the 5th inning Varitek AGAIN punished the Yankees for the intentional walk of Ortiz with a hit to put runners on first and third. Nixon drove in another run, and Mueller followed with ANOTHER homer to make it 9-0. Bellhorn again grounded out to end the frame.

Jeter led off the top of the 4th with a triple (the first Yankees baserunner) and scored on a Sheffield single, but Matsui grounded into a double play to end the inninng.

In the 4th, Damon reached and was driven in by Manny's single. Ortiz was walked, and then Varitek capped off the day with a three run walkoff homer to left.

So basically... Varitek: 3-3, HR, 4 RBI and Mueller 2-2, 2 HR, 6 RBI. Varitek has a line of .197/.208/.329, 2 HR, 6 RBI in 76 postseason at bats, while Mueller is .250/.250/.444 with 3 HR and 7 RBI in 72 postseason at bats. wtf. That's all the production I'll be getting all season

Yankees - 1 @ Red Sox - 13

AlecTrevylan006

2 exhibition games before we go to a belated world series.

Yankees - 1 @ Red Sox - 2
Yankees score a run in the top of 2nd when a Bernie Williams ball goes into the corner for a triple and he scores on a groundout. Red Sox respond with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. El Duque pitches the complete game, Pedro goes 8 innings because I forgot to pull him, and Foulke gets the save.

Red Sox - 3 @ Yankees - 2 (10 innings)
Red Sox get aboard with a Damon HR in the 3rd. The Yankees get back to back HRs from ARod and Sheffield in the 7th to take the lead, but Varitek surprises everybody by lifting the first pitch of the 8th into the front row of the left field bleachers. Foulke gets the last out of the 8th against Arod, but is pinch hit for in the 9th. Wakefield comes in and pitches a scoreless bot 9. Top of the 10th, Manny is accidentally hit by pitch and then Ortiz is eventually intentionally walked to get to Varitek. Varitek grounds into a force but reaches, making it first and third with one out. Millar takes a 2-1 pitch and hits it just deep enough for Manny to score, and Wakefield overcomes and error in the bottom of the 10th to get the two-inning win.
