What's ELO & how do I increase it?

ELO is a rating most commonly used in chess, but works well for 2 player matches.  It attempts to reward players for beating higher ranked opponents...

So, if you play a bunch of noobs and beat up on them, you don't gain much, but if you play a higher ranked player and win, you stand to gain more points...basically it tries to predict based on ratings of the two opponents what the outcome of the match would be, and if you do better than expected, you raise your points, lower than expected, you lower your points.

Right now my site calculates from your first game onward...I want to make it so that you lose your ranking status if you don't play a game in a certain amount of time (to keep players from playing 1 game a month to keep their ranking up). I want activity, dammit! Although, it looks like the league hath done killed that
