The retarded shortstop

Why is it that if you have a runner on second base and you hit a pop up to the shortstop, that sometimes you can tag up and run to third base without a throw from the CPU?  I know this only happens like 10% of the time but it just seems so random as to when it happens.  

The shortstop obviously isn't comatose as he'll throw it home as soon as you round third base, so what's his problem?

Glitch in the system.  I doubles left and right because of that.

amazing, didn't know that. i'll have to try that sometime. i mean how often do you think about tagging in that situation.

I used to tag every time that the ball was caught (against the computer).  The AI always throws to the base ahead of you (if they throw it, as T Roogs explained), so you can get back easily.  

I usually found that if you the shortstop / 3rd baseman caught it closer to the base or the baseline, then the computer won't throw it for some reason.
