im not a fucking moron... ive played baseball for 13 years and play in college... i didnt understand why when i get one error in the first inning, its will have a 9 or some other large number underneath the ER column later in the game

What do you do after you get an out at first?  There are some people here that run toward second base and throw the ball back to first, hitting the wall - if the ball hits the wall on a throw, it counts as an error.

an ER error registers any time you BOP or a thrown ball hits a wall, even if no one advances, or no one is on base
