Where exactly is the sweet spot of the bat, or the portion where you have no contact subracted?  Is it here:

I figured this was the spot because I kept the pitcher and batter position at the default setting and just threw a straight pitch.  I just want to figure out which part of the bat is used for best contact.  My friends and I seem to have different philosophies.

I always thought that it would be that, plus a wee bit further near the edge of the bat.

Someone with one of those things where you can see "hexes" and stuff, needs to figure this out...

Good topic

isnt' there some power right off the end of the bat as well, to the opposite field?  or am i imagining that?

Here is nightwulf's full explanation of contact rating.  It has a couple of pics, but it doesn't have a full "sweet spot" display.  It doesn't look like there's any end-of-the-bat power boost.

The lookup table appears to return 0 (meaning no contact subtraction) for the middle 4 of the 16 values, which would imply that the middle 1/4 of the bat (the area you can hit with, not counting the handle) is the "sweet spot".

but really, that info is coming from a guy who doesn't believe in the early throw bop.

i am a believer that if you are fielding a grounder or a popup and go to make the throw too early that it will result in sweaties or as most others around here call it "bop"

Versus "facts", which say otherwise.

Based on the above pictures, the reason you're not getting any power is because you're bunting.

How much of a different philosophy could your friends have? Are they trying to hit it with the end of the bat? I don't get it.

Yeah, a couple think hitting it with the fattest part of the bat produces the most homeruns.  And the guy that hit the 2nd most HR's in our league believes that way inside results in the most homeruns.  I generally aim for the middle of the bat.

This is the same group of guys that had a member who used to talk a bunch of trash about how Houston was the best team in the game?
