Ah, I get it now.

In that case, I'll take the Hawk himself, Andre Dawson.

Right, nomaaa picks last in the first round, but then gets the first pick in the second round (so 2 picks in a row).

Because you're a huge fan, and I thought it was too early to take Evans.

Also, I wanted to do this my first post, but didn't.  Now that I'm posting again anyway:

Generalissimo is an English loan word from the Spanish Generalisimo, which you are indeed correct in pointing out has only one S.

My team name is in English.  I appreciate your confirmation though.

EDIT:  Oops, make that from the Italian, apparently, after double-checking.  Not that anyone else cares.  It was of course a Spaniard who influenced my name, however.

One option is to give Nomaa the guys with the next top power rankings (Murphy, Armas) and move on.

His AIM account's logged on and doesn't read idle, so I've messaged him.

You know as a BoSox fan he's going to take Armas anyway, I think Shooty may have a viable plan.  Maybe he'd prefer Burks over Murphy though, I dunno.

Thought about doing that, but really want everyone to get the players they want.
I think as long as we can finish this thing by Friday, we should not have a problem.  Hopefully after my message, we can cruz through this thing.
Title: Re: Stock's Fantasy Draft
Post by: OctoFranco on 05/10/06, 10:37:31 AM
You know, after thinking about it, I remember how Nomaaa was such a loyal fan in the last fantasy league that he picked Wade "Fucking" Boggs while much better picks were available, just since he was such a huge beantown fan.  So I am 99% sure that he wants Armas and Burks.  And I am willing to go on a limb to take personal responsibility if I am incorrect here and offer Nomaaa to trade those players with any of my pics on the off chance he is dissatisfied.

I think it's important to keep this sucker rolling.  A long, drawn-out draft was one of the things that doomed that aforemetioned previous fantasy league.

So, pending the permission of Stock and barring any major objections, I move we just give Nomaaa Armas/Burks and move on in the draft.

The only problem with that is we will only get to the end of round 3 and we will be in the same place as we are now.  Will we just continue to give him Boston players?

If everyone else wants to move forward regardless, I am willing to give Nomaa burks/armas contingent on Octos "deal".
Someone else please second this request, and it will be done.
I still say we give hime 'till 1130 cst to respond to the IM though.

Edit:  Jim Rice is up there as well.  Are you sure Armas/Burks would be his picks?

Just wanted to let everyone know that during the day I'll be around, albeit sporatically, but after 7PM I'll be around most of the night (huge midweek loser here). However, today and tomorrow I'm training a few classes, so I'll PM my picks or call Octo with my picks.

Isn't Nomaa typically online during the early afternoon? Should we set a time limit to make his picks and if he doesn't just give him two studs (Burks and Buckner?) from Boston?

That probably wouldn't be fair to him since those rules weren't in place when the draft started

Armas and Burks sound good to me.

Better that we get to the end of round 3, then stay stuck at the end of round 1.

How many rounds is that draft anyways?

Title: Re: Stock's Fantasy Draft

Effective are the drafting rules which will go into effect as soon as Nomaa makes his next two picks:

Once a pick is made, the next person has 2 hours to make his next pick.
This rule will take effect from 8am to 10pm CST.  (ie.. if a pick is made at 930pm, the next person will have until 830am the next morning).

If the next pick is not made in the 2 hour time frame (or I do not have a ranked draft list for your team), you will be given the player with the highest power number available sorted by ascending contact and then descending speed values.
If at any time you feel that you may not be able to make your next pick, it is your responsibility to either:
1.  Get me a ranked list of YOUR choosing.
2.  Get someone else a ranked list that will be able to draft on your behalf.

I hate to double back on what I said earlier, but just do not feel that it would be fair to Nomaaa, as there were no rules in place.

Post by: OctoFranco on 05/10/06, 12:18:51 PM
Those rules sound good.  And although giving Nomaaa those picks could potentially allow us to get through two more rounds (before he would come up again), I understand and respect your position.  I was gonna dissent, but then I remembered you've got the power to rig my games.  Kidding.  I do think it's cool that you started this league, and it's very big of you to do this for the rest of us, and [edit: you do have your own team after all, slim.  Still though.]

Also there will be egg on your face when Nomaaa rolls by tonight and picks Armas/Burks.

You might be right, I guess the monster speed advantage Timmy B has is basically negligible given that the games will be computer-played.  I'd take Burks hands down in any non-simmed league though.

Edit:  Fuck that, Stock's playing the offense.  Timbo all the way.

Awesome, let's get this going. I'll be gone in about 15 min. (1:45 forum time) till about 4:30 forum time. After that I'll be here pretty much all night. I don't anticipate getting to me by that time (I pick second to last in this round). If we do, then just take whoever has the highest power available. Thanks.

Decent point.
Remember, I am only playing offense.
Although I am not going to take extra bases on things like throws to the wrong base, etc..., Rains could see his fair share of IF hits.

If I would have known that everyone hated Nokes I would have let him pass until the 3rd round, but I'm not sure he wouldn't have gotten by Gantry.

Don't drag me into this, that was a terrible pick...  Nokes before Rupperto?  For shame son, for shame...

No way in hell I'm taking Nokes in the 2nd or 3rd...

Remember, I'm the 2005 RBI Champion.  Where is your respect!

Let's play some straight pitch and I'll show you how.  Actually I'm not sure how the hell I beat Gantry in the best of 3 championship series because he would probably kick the crap out of me now because I havn't played since then.  But I did and now I am the champ.  I was in the zone that night.  I was, en fuego.

That was my reasoning for drafting the power challenged Smith. Get on base with speed so my 2/3/4 hitters can knock him in...

Not sure why but I really like Kips' team.
Probably because I like lefties, and Kips' team is chock full of power lefties.

Going to work now.

Since I cannot log in at work, I will send Gantry an email if it gets to my turn.

Also, I have a (old) list of ranked players for shooty.  He has until 10am to make his pick.  If he doesn't log in by then, I will send Gantry his pick as well (from his list).

Don't want to jump the gun on Shooty's pick since it is an old list, and the last pick he made was not someone at the top of his list.

See ya
