Title: Next RBI draft
Post by: Mr. Blubbo on 10/16/06, 05:27:30 PM
When is it and I want in!
Title: Re: Next RBI draft
Post by: fightonusc on 10/16/06, 06:35:38 PM
If we do another season, I'm cool with running it. But I think I'd like to set up a system where teams simulate and keep records for their own games instead of one person doing it all (me). If nothing else, perhaps we can get one or two other people willing to each take at least one game a week.

I'd be willing to not have a team so another person can play.

EDIT: TEAMS SO FAR

In:

The OC (TBG & BDawk)
The Poopydickbutts (fknmclane & Gantry)
The Nimrods (U7)
The Frank Tanana All-Stars (Shooty Babbit)
The South Arkansas Penis (Ryno/Bonny)
The Hip Young Popes (Gerlost/Disco Smiley)
Team AttaRack
The Nacho Project
G-D AVIS
GoReds & TBT

Out:

The Creamy Pirates (fightonusc)
The Unholy Legions of Doom (Beefmaster)
The Fighting Tony Danzas (defen)

Waiting to Hear Back:

THE Parish State University (Baines)

i call not it. the champions should not have to do anything except for rest on our laurels.

in all seriousnessl, i really appreciate highly all the work fighton's done the past two seasons.  unfortunately starting in january i can't commit to anything because i'm not sure where i'll be working because of my move and everything.  when does the fantasy league usually start?

do you actually have to play the games online or do you just draft a team?  How does it work exactly?

The computer plays the games - fighton (or whoever is handling that particular game) starts the game in Watch Mode and keeps track of the results.

All the league members do is draft a team and form a lineup.  The teams are 3 OF, 4 IF, 1 C, 2 SP, 2 RP, and 4 bench guys that can be any position.  You have to start your positional players, although your lineup can be whatever you want.  Trades are allowed (albeit rare), and lineup changes are allowed between weeks.  If the league has fewer than 10 teams, free agent pickups are also allowed during the lineup change period.

I'd be willing to step aside for the next season if you guys would like a spot... I've done this a few times already.  I could probably help out some with simulating games, though.

i'd be concerned about the stat keeping as many people don't know how to score games properly, i'd imagine.
Title: Re: Next RBI draft
Post by: Mr. Blubbo on 10/18/06, 11:33:37 AM
I would manage a team but unfortunately I have to be a pussy in helping out.  I don't even have an NES.
Title: Re: Next RBI draft
Post by: TβG on 10/18/06, 01:36:16 PM
emulation is the key...
Title: Re: Next RBI draft
Post by: fightonusc on 10/18/06, 01:45:56 PM
All the games are played on my computer emulator. I use VirtuaNES (http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/nes/virtuanes.html), because the individual game files can be saved and posted. Then, anyone with that week's ROM and JNes can simply load the game file and watch the game from beginning to end.

I track the stats with a freeware program called Baseball ScoreBook (http://www.fixedit.com/baseball.shtml) that's really simply to use. Basically, after each play, you just mark down what happened (type of out, hit, how runners advanced, etc.) At the end of the game, you can call up a box score (what I always take screen captures of and post).

I'm happy to run it again, but just know that games will be played at leisurely pace this season. Anyone willing to help would seasons move quicker, etc.

interesting.  I could help out with maybe a game or two a week, assuming I can figure out how to DL that crap and actually use it.  I make no bones about admitting that I may be too stupid to figure that shit out, but I could give it a shot.
Title: Re: Next RBI draft
Post by: TβG on 10/18/06, 03:00:34 PM
i'd be willing to pay for the league, but as i mentioned previously i can't commit to helping run anything becuase i don't know where i'll be.
Title: Re: Next RBI draft
Post by: ultimate7 on 10/18/06, 03:20:28 PM
I can run games, but my method is a bit different than USC's.  My scoring program yields no play by play, just a box score plus I try to write up some summary (I figure that anyone that wants a play by play can just watch the damn game since they are all recorded).

But this allows me to compile stats fast, the crappy "software" that I wrote, exports the stats right into my excel template, so I don't have to worry about any STAT issues, just "scoring" the game.
Title: Re: Next RBI draft
Post by: fightonusc on 10/18/06, 03:38:04 PM
Awesome. The main thing the stats/box scores are good for are keeping season stats. I have no problem building all of that as long as the games each have stats.

OK, we obviously have 10 teams maximum. I know that some people previous had mentioned maybe doing a joint team like TBG and BDawk did with The OC (I believe Rack and Gantry had mentioned this, and maybe Mike D. and rdub). If people want to do this, that's cool - we can get more people involved that way.

Let me know who wants in. Returning players answer first with a yes or no. (I'm acting as commish only, and Beefmaster said he's willing to sit out this season if we need spots). Once the returning teams commit to playing or sitting out, we'll know how many spots are left, etc.

Poopydicks and a Poopybutts combo? What say you, Gantry?

Actually, if Rack gets in, I wouldn't be offended at all if you preferred to team up with him.

No way, poopydicks & poopybutts have to unite.  Besides, who wants to be on a team with  Rack?  We all know he can't compromise, I'd have to send 4878 emails to talk him out of Matt Nokes in the 2nd round...

OK, here are the 10 teams we had last season. If you haven't yet, owners let me know if you are interested in playing for this upcoming season. The sooner the better, so I can open things up for the new people.

In:

The OC (TBG & BDawk)
The Poopydickbutts (fknmclane & Gantry)
The Nimrods (U7)
The Frank Tanana All-Stars (Shooty Babbit)
The South Arkansas Penis (Ryno/Bonny)
The Hip Young Popes (Gerlost)
Team AttaRack
The Nacho Project
G-D AVIS
GoReds & TBT

Out:

The Creamy Pirates (fightonusc)
The Unholy Legions of Doom (Beefmaster)
The Fighting Tony Danzas (defen)

Waiting to Hear Back:

THE Parish State University (Baines)

Depending on the amount of people interested, I might consider making all teams be run by two people, which should create lots of drama and make the draft run quicker (more people around to make picks). Would anyone be violently opposed to that?

Title: Re: Next RBI draft
Post by: fightonusc on 10/19/06, 03:29:31 PM
Four teams definitely coming back, with three teams still TBD. That means a minimum of three new spots available. I think that with the response so far, it might make sense (and be fun) and have each team be a two-person operation. So think about that and try to figure out if there's anyone you want to join forces with (it could even be three or more people if you wanted).

Baines is the exception to this - he can only run his team by himself, what with his lack of alliances.

OK, I've taken the information on teams and put it on the first page of the thread. I'm still waiting to hear from Baines to see if he's playing or not. GoReds and TBT, are you doing a team? Also, Nacho and GDavis, think about if you'd like to partner with anyone in particular.

Anyone else interested? We may have a spot for one or two more people (depending on Baines' status and who combines teams). Speak now or forever hold your peace.

Teams that are set, start thinking about your team name, colors, logos, etc.

STRAIGHT OUTTA VATICAN (Dee-Nee) - On Friday, the Hip Young Popes hired Disco Smiley as their Assistant to the Traveling Secretary, agreeing to terms on a 1-season 1-grilled cheese sandwich contract.

Hip Young Popes general manager Gerlost Rogozhkin spotted Smiley walking out of a Vatican-area Kum & Go and sprinted across the parking lot to talk to him.  Rogozhkin asked if Smiley was interested in working for G-d.

"lol," Smiley said.

G-d was unavailable for comment.

The Hip Young Popes finished last in the Dee-Nee Fantasy RBI League last season with a record of 4-9.

OK, Baines is going to sit this one out, so we're set.

I think with the large number of new teams, we should scrap the keepers and go from scratch again. We'll do the standard "snake" style draft, with orders chosen randomly.

How much time do people need to get their draft lists together? I'm ready to start whenever people are ready to begin drafting.

Title: Re: Next RBI draft
Post by: fightonusc on 10/24/06, 01:00:54 PM
Draft requirements:

Your starting line-up must have 1 catcher, 4 IFs and 3 OFs. I'll post the positions before the draft - there are a couple of people (Pedro for one) that we had to debate on if they were an IF or and OF. Your pitching staff must be 2 SP and 2 RP - no more or less of each. Since we have 10 teams, there is no free agent pool - we'll have 16 rounds of picks, and then you guys can trade if you want to exchange players.

i'm ready, but i will be gone over the weekend starting friday.  is there any opposition to starting the draft next monday or tuesday?  give everyone a little more time to get things sorted out.

I'll draft for us...is marty barrett still a good first rounder?

It doesn't matter if you don't have a top-five pick to grab him with.

I think we can get a good dent into the draft before the weekend. By that point, it should be around to draft bench players, etc., if we aren't done. There's excitement in the air about the draft, TBG - don't be the downer.

So, we'll start tomorrow morning. Look for the new thread shortly.

Yes, if anyone is curious, the stats from last season are attached. This also should tell you who is an IF or an OF.

I just created an official draft thread, with all of the particulars (including a random draft order).
