Title: Re: 2008 Stock RBI Fantasy Draft
Post by: Stock on 01/28/08, 07:53:42 PM
Atezz draws the first overall pick.

Drafting order was determined by a random number generator.  16th pick in the first round gets the 1st pick in the second and so on (ie.. After the first round, 1 & 16 will get two picks in a row).  I will do my best to keep a running tab in the first post of this thread.

When the draft is complete, you must have a line-up with a valid player for each position + a DH which can be any player.
There is no need to declare the position when drafting.  When the draft is over you will be asked for 1) your line-up, 2) The position for each player in your line-up, 3) Which hand you would like any switch hitters to bat, and your team colors.  If you make an error (ie.. you draft 6 outfielders), you will be forced to correct your team with the remaining undrafted players.

YOU WILL HAVE 24 HOURS TO MAKE YOUR DRAFT PICK AFTER THE PERSON IN FRONT OF YOU DRAFTS.  Hopefully most drafting will take this long, but wanted to accommodate everyone's busy schedules.  If you think you will not be online in the course of 24 hours, please send me/someone proxy picks or appoints someone to draft in your place.
Please reference the attached spreadsheet when drafting so you will know what their "RBI" stats will be and what position they have played.  Each player is eligible for any position listed in the attached file OR any position they played in at least 150 games in their career.

The league will be comprised of 4 divisions.  The divisions will be named after the first 4 players drafted.  After that, each team needs to pick what division they would like to be in along with their first pick (4 teams total per division).
Each team will play every team in their division 6 times, and every other team 2 times.
Schedule will be posted after the draft.

Each division winner along with 2 wildcards will advance to the playoffs which will be played out similar to the NFC Championship playoff structure in the NFL.  The first 2 rounds will honor home field advantage to the top seed in all games in a best of 3 series.  The Championship will be a best of 5 series alternating home field advantage with the top seed getting the 1st and 5th game if necessary. All seeds will be determined by overall record, with the 4 division winners are gauranteed seeds 1-4.  Tiebreakers in order will be head-to-head, runs/AB, Batting Average, and Slugging.
Game Play:  Will be the same as last year's league.  I will be playing offense for both teams against weakenned pitching.  All pitchers for all teams will have the same attributes.  Strikeouts, Walks, and Errors are turned off and I will not be stealing any bases.  10 run rule is in full effect.  I will be keeping stats for AB, Hits, doubles, triples, HRs, Batting Average, Slugging, and of course RBIs.

Wow, this looks fucking awesome. That's a ton of work you put into this, Stock.

Couple questions:

1) Is this a complete list of 3,000+ AB players, thus the definitive draft board?

2) What are the asterisks for? Looks like it's all active players, is that all it means?

Wait, I want the Babe (Hermann) who had the second most power and 16 contact.

1)  I am hoping it is complete.  If there is anyone missing, they need to have 3,000 abs to be eligible.  Please PM me their name ahead of time so I can give you their RBI stats.  Also, they must be modern day enough players (usually if they played most of their career post 1900 you are good) for MLB.com to have OB% numbers for them.

2) Not sure what the astrisks mean.  MLB.com has them by some of the player names.  I think it is supposed to mean they are active players, but there are astrix next to some guys that definitely are not active.  You can just ignore them.

Either you are kidding or you sorted the list wrong.

Babe Herman:  790-power, 16-contact.
Babe Ruth:  995-power, 9-contact.

Please confirm.

That's cool.  When you said you drafted Babe Herman, I just assumed you were using The Babe's middle name.
Kinda threw me a curve ball.

Excellent.
We have our 4 divisions set.

1.  Ruth
2.  Bonds
3.  ARod
4.  Pujols

With each remaining draft pick in this round, also pick which Division you would like to be in (4 teams per division).

So the top 4 drafters are automatically in the division named after the player they drafted?

Makes sense, but confirmation would be good.

Remember my spreadsheet is not complete for all positions a player is eligible for.  They are also eligible for any position in which they played at least 150 career games.

However, you will notice the compensation made to these guys' speed stats.  They will get a ton more IF hits, triples, and will be nearly impossible to double up.

I decided not to have stolen bases since against the computer you can steal 2nd base pretty much whenever you want even with a slightly below average speed guy.

Try to relax U7.  We'll make it through this together.

Not sure exactly.  There are just next to some of the names when I copied them over from mlb.com.
I think they are supposed to mean they are still active players or something.

No.  9 starters, and that's it - with the DH, there's no need for pinch hitters (I assume Stock either maxes out or minimizes pitchers' stamina).

Beefmaster has it.
Last year for pitchers, they all got a 0 rating for curves and sinkers.  Curve & Fast speed equal to 130.  Sinker speed equal to 95.  Stamina 99.  No sidearm pitchers.  Strikeouts and walks turned off.
The only pitcher attribute you will have control over is whichever batter you choose to bat in the 9th spot will be the hand of your teams pitcher.  .... but shouldn't really matter.

Your intent should be to put together the best offensive team possible in a "straight pitch" style format, as that is what I am trying to recreate.

To some extent.  I will still be swinging at most strikes, so don't expect I am good enough to get the sweet spot with every swing.  On pitches on the corner of the plate, I am not sure it is even possible to hit the sweet spot.

It would have to be Troy Glaus.  He has the 2nd most power left, and Sexson has not played much 3rd base.

Ryno selects Ryno via proxy.

Not sure what Shooty's status is.
He gave me a list of proxy picks a while ago, but unsure if he is willing to draft his DH already.

One of his first basemen will have to be his DH.

He selects Richie Sexson via proxy.

The good news is, he is the last guy left with 900+ power.

I think if we instituted a rule that says, "if you select someone already picked then the draft goes on without you, although you can pick at any time".  I think that would make sure you double check Stock's updated page 1 selections beforehand.  I messed up once.  Beef just did.  I would think it is only going to get worse from this point forward.  Plus with 24 hours to pick, said culprit may not know about it.

I think that gives mclane 3 1st basemen, though Fielder did somehow play 2 games at 2B he can't use him there

Yeah that does give McLane 3 1B.  I think Cecil should be added back to the FA pool and he should pick again.

Cecil Fielder added back to the free agent pool.
McLane, please pick again.

Quote from: Racktacular on 02/04/08, 01:35:27 PM
I think if we instituted a rule that says, "if you select someone already picked then the draft goes on without you, although you can pick at any time".  I think that would make sure you double check Stock's updated page 1 selections beforehand.  I messed up once.  Beef just did.  I would think it is only going to get worse from this point forward.  Plus with 24 hours to pick, said culprit may not know about it.

I agree.  Going forward, if there is a mix up in a person's draft pick (weather they draft someone that has already been drafted, or they draft and ineligible player due to duplicate positions), the draft will move on.
The team that is skipped may make their next pick any time they see fit before their next pick, or they will just draft 2 players on their next pick.

Sound fair??

I am only going to allow 3 opportunities to switch a lineup throughout the season.  (There will be an 18 week season + playoffs).
1.  After Week 6 is complete.
2.  After Week 12 is complete.
3.  After week 18 is complete (ie.. before the playoffs start)

I am already going to be playing 300+ games, not including playoffs as well as keeping team and player stats up to date on a weekly basis.  I don't need to be wasting any time constantly altering ROMs.

In case anyone was actually interested in "D Johnson (1B/2B)" from my spreadsheet, HE IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR 2B.  He is eligible for 1B & 3B.
This is Deron Johnson 1960-1976 (mostly Reds/Phillies).

Had someone picked him unknowingly (ie.. trusting the accuracy of the spreasheet I posted), I would have let slide.
However, consider it corrected.

I'd say Rack made out damn well.
He essentially got 52 power points, 4 speed points, and 15 contact points by just giving up an 8th for a 9th pick.
Or he really just got a 1st and 9th pick by giving up a 6th & 8th pick.

It will be up to Rack/Ryno to keep track of their picks.

Ryno, what do you have against Foxx?  I don't know you to be that much of a Palmeiro fan to give up so much for him.

I know, but at some point the power number outweighs the contact number.  So this player will probably pop most hits up and because his power is so low they will be popouts.  With the occasional HR.

Thanks for the help!

OK, I found him but now I don't understand why Fighton drafted him.  Must be a huge fan of low contact.

He'll bat 2-10, but 1 of those hits will be HR's.

Low is good for contact, Rack.

I know, but at some point the power number outweighs the contact number.  So this player will probably pop most hits up and because his power is so low they will be popouts.  With the occasional HR.

Are you trying to make Nightwulf's head explode?

Yes it is. Stock is a robot. So him batting is just like watch mode. (Also, he's still batting against the shitty computer AI defense, so the same lousy ground balls will still get through the IF for a triple instead of being turned into easy outs by a decent human defender. Eat it, GDavis.)

I choose Vern Stephens.  And Nacho, as long as he played 150 games at catcher (which I'm pretty sure Biggio did), he's eligible there.

Please tell me Mclane did not seriously draft yet another first baseman and then leave.

Had I known that Attez genuinely wanted to draft a team capable of scoring only 2 runs per game, and that Mclane would have to drop half his drafted team for having too many first basemen, I'd have joined the Ruth division no questions asked.
