My 2010 ROM is at a point where I don't have to spend a lot of time on it for updates, so I thought I'd see about some interest for another project...
I know there aren't a lot of people left here who play a lot, but I thought I'd just throw this out there anyways (I mentioned this a long time ago, but now I'm ready with some help...
Would anyone be interested in a project where we add the remaining teams from the 1986/1987 seasons to the game? We have the 30 team ROM, why not utilize it? We could have 26 teams, plus the AL/NL all-stars, and then 2 teams left.
I'm not as much of a hard-core original guy as some of you, so I'd need lots of help from anyone interested. Some questions need to be answered...
What should we do with the remaining 2 team spots?
Do we take the team from 1986, 1987, or a mix of both (for each team)
How do we rate certain attributes for the players to make it go in-line with the original
Would anyone at all be interested in this project, or am I wasting my time? If this does happen, I could setup my editor so that all of us involved could have access to it and we could edit in one spot...
Let me know if anyone is interested...

Definitely interested.
Why not just take the team from the season that had the better record.
Interested but I'm a lazy bastard and probably wouldn't contribute a ton. I think we'd have to come up with some sort of formula based on stats to fill out the rosters.
Like Attezz's idea about better record but it should be a 50/50 split on years.
Cross editing is a good idea, diffuse the laziness and a few teams per person
That was my idea as well, pick the better team...I'll setup my editor so we can collaborate and get the ROM ready. Not sure when, but as soon as I have this ready, I'll email all who said they were interested with info on how to get editing...
I agree some sort of formula for editing would be good...as usual, the toughest will be rating pitcher speed and curve...
Perhaps we should get some discussion going in the meantime on what those should be...let's try and keep the numbers as close to original style ratings as possible...
Are there any posts/threads on player forumlas? Surely someone has come up with one by now...

There definitely are.
I have a few good ones for base values that I've coded into my editor...so when you enter contact and HR, it spits out a base value...works great for starting out...
Also, I thought we could use the last two team spots for an "Editor's all-star" team where we use names of the editors and then some of the top Dee-nee posters...using post count or something as a basis...something like EA or Midway used to do with their games where the programmers had characters in the game...
Anyways, working on the editor as I type this...
I've not done any editing on anything in a while, but I'd like to see this get done. Let me know what I need to do to help out.
I'm an ambitious dude...it'll get done.

I personally don't like using a formula, mostly because Tengen didn't use them. I want someone like Steve Balboni to have high power and high contact regardless of what his stats were because I think that is what his RBI persona would have been.
I use stats combined with a feel for the type of player someone was (Lindeman)
That's all well and good, but it's REALLY tough to do when you are talking about 30 teams. If you want to take the time to rate 480 or whatever players by gut feeling, feel free.
I think we should use the formulas as a base, and then if we want to go drastically outside of that base, we could all discuss and vote on it.
Guys, I made some excellent progress on getting my editor to allow for editing multiple ROMS (instead of just my 2010 version). I should have it functional hopefully within another night or two, and I'll open it up to you fools.
I'd help with the Blue Jays and Expos for sure
Great, we should have a nice product with this crew.
I could help as well. I've also got a 2007 ROM that I would like to finish with your 30 team editor.
For the final 2 team spots, it might be interesting to use the best rbi arcade players and form an all-time NL and AL team. This would be easy since we already have their numbers. And for those of us who play the cpu, it might be more challenging to play vs one of these teams.
Do we know if these 30 team ROMs can be put on a cart?
tecmoturd-I could probably play again tonight if you are interested.
i'll do work on the white sox and another team (mariners, royals?) if it will help
I'll do 2-3 teams once we decide on a semi-consistent ranking system
some ideas for the two extra teams:
japanese all-stars / negro league all-stars (there is already a japanese/negro league rom)
maybe make two teams out of early 80's / late 80's all-stars who came in or left the league before and after the game came out. (rod carew comes to mind)
Or, how about the absolute dream team of best players in history with their best season...or, I could actually remove them altogether, I think I figured out how to do that...
Ok, for the people who said they were interested, I'm going to send you all a PM, as the site is ready (with hopefully no bugs). I'll ahve all the info available that you need in that PM.
Anyone else who's interested, post here...all I ask when you get on this project is to be open-minded and don't make your favorite team good cause you like them, make them play like they would have that year...I want this to be as good of a game as Tengen would have made it (or better) back in the day, something cart-worthy.
I'd like to get off my lazy butt for the sake of RBI and volunteer for two teams (assuming you'll keep the 86 angels). I'll do the dodgers and the rangers. unless someone like fighton or slims likes the dodgers.
The editing has begun...I've sent all who've replied a PM...meanwhile, Strassy and I have started to take on some of the teams...
Great, so far we got a few players entered in, but it's gonna take a lot more to get the full game edited...hope to hear from some more of you who said you were interested...
This is gonna be difficult to do, but I'd like to get some sort of consistency going for pitcher ratings...perhaps we come up with a formula and then if you go above or below a certain threshold, you have to justify it?
I mean, I'm not sure many guys should be above 13 for curve, especially for starters...
So, what should we base our curve on? I prefer rating curve based on K9 values a bit of ERA. Their ability to strike people out and win games ties closely with how good their curve and speed is in RBI. Anyone agree or disagree?
For instance, I define the curve for a strictly average guy to be around 5-6, so what if we took the difference between the pitchers actual K9 value vs. the league average for that position and came up with a curve value of some sort, giving the better pitchers good movement left and right...
Discuss.
Teams in need of editing:
Athletics
BlueJays
Braves
Cubs
Dodgers
Expos
Indians
Orioles
Padres
Phillies
Pirates
Rangers
Royals
Yankees
I'll take Indians & Braves - will take the time to check out stuff later today after work.
Cool, can you PM me a desired password?
My life is public - please make it "fartsarefunny" without the quotes. Thanks!
Just signed in, wow this is great work tecmo. I'll start working on the Indians shortly...
Have we decided on years? Just pick the best team season? Combine best individual stats from 86/87?
I was just going with best year...
For the team or player?
And where was that formula you had for speed/power rankings? I know it was on a post/thread somewhere...
Sorry, team...I mean, makes sense to keep the full team together as opposed to mixing players, but that's just me...
That's probably a good idea...
So how is everyone handling the DH situation? The guy who usually played DH goes to the bench? Least starts from a position player? Tough call for the Indians, Cory Snyder had a STUD rookie year but only started 68 games. Move him and the DH to the bench?
OK finished the Indians, my initial thoughts:
* I beefed up everyone's power 15-25 points from the suggestions based on the "real" RBI teams (which are filled out)
* 768 is a good "generic power" number so a good one to use for low power, low AB subs
* Cory Snyder is the next Rupperto - 893 power and PH bonus. Bumped his power up 40 from suggestions based on only 70 starts and 24 HRs in 415 ABs
I just used the most common lineup from there according to baseball-reference, looking at their best players available that weren't in the lineup to fill out the bench...
the Yanks had a bunch of low average/high power guys in '87...

As an FYI, does BR show the most common lineup somewhere? They list the players by position on the main page and not batting order...
Awesome work guys...I figure when we're all done, we should go back over them to see if there are any places that need tweaking. Let's do it right...
Keep up the good work...

what is the speed cap? do i re-rated EDavis or just use his NL ratings from RBI?
Otis Nixon was a sub on the Indians and I gave him 148, same as Coleman. He had an ABSURD 23 steals in 110 plate appearances in 1986, almost warrants at 150.
I'd say use the RBI ratings already given...
Kal Daniels had a monster year in '87. .334 26HR, 26SB in 108 games...
For speed cap, I'd say there isn't one. Use the original as a guide.
For all-star ratings, I'd say use the ones they gave for consistency's sake
Jesus, that's worthy of 900+ power AND 140 speed
Quote from: Gantry on 02/01/10, 03:23:57 PM
Jesus, that's worthy of 900+ power AND 140 speed
I went 890 & 138
I say go higher for the power - his SLG was 20 points higher than anyone in the NL that year, though he didn't qualify based on ABs. Plenty of 900+ power guys of the orignial 10, I think those stats are worth it.
I gave Joe Carter 909 and 138 for his .302/29HRs/29 steals in 1986

I'd assume this only applies if it's an '87 team.
Good point, Beef...I am not sure how I feel about this...
Same guy on the ROM twice with different stats from different years
A guy on the 86 team with his 87 stats because the all-star team has him rated already (or vice versa)

Great job by the Cubs when they got his washed up ass. >:(
Man, I'm torn about this...Tengen gave Molitor 744 for power, even though he hit .353 that year...if Gantry is correct that 768 is a good generic mediocre power rating, that's awfully low for Molitor in my opinion.
What do you guys think, in these situations, do we ignore the ratings from the all-star teams and rate as we think they should be rated?
yes or no...imo
Thanks for clearing that up Clam! Which one is it?
Molitor should prolly have better power than Pettis; so...
I have no qualms with saying screw you to the stats from the AS teams....
awesome, after seeing a good example, I'm of the same philosophy, Gantry.
i'm using 1987 for the dodgers.
question: bob welch had a superior year to fernando, and since fernando is already in the game as an all-star, i should favor welch on the dodgers roster, right?
Sounds right
how are we rating player's running speed?
I'm just loosely basing it off stolen bases, CS, triples and plate appearances. Nothing scientific at all...
dodgers are done, i moslty guessed on the speeds. i forgot the pitchers...
A good base formula can be found at /calculator.php off of the rbi30 site. Uses 3B and SB.
You could ignore the stamina thing on that page, it doesn't apply for this ROM.
how are we treating "multiplicity"? do we want to have reggie jackson on the 86 angels and the 87 a's? i say no and the RBI team keeps the player.
Never thought of that. I agree, we should preserve the original game as much as possible. You should be able to play any game on this that you could on the original, in my opinion. In fact, rather than removing the player, I say we choose the other year for that team.
i don't know about choosing the other year... the 87 a's are a lot better and jackson wasn't as much a factor. the 86 a's don't have steinbach and don't have big mac. there's suitable replacements off the bench for jackson who hit 220 with 15 hr's. i mean, kinda...
could we get a link to the site on here? I keep forgetting to bookmark it. i should be able to finish off the white sox/mariners by wednesday night and i will start working on another team after that.

Awesome, we're down to pitchers, and the following batters:
Braves
Orioles
Cubs
Expos
Phillies
Pirates
Padres
I'm likely going to be in and out here the next few days, maybe longer, as the baby is coming within the day, I think (contractions started). Continue to PM me if you're interested...
I'll do another team or two, at least batting wise - I'll rally the troops while you are away, best of luck with the little one!
I'm willing to do a couple more teams. I'm just gonna compare pitchers to the RBI cart pitcher ratings of similar styles. If that makes any fkn sense at all...
I'll take the Padres
just finished the Pirates. They suck...
What are you guys doing with switch hitters? Gary Templeton is the first one I've run into. Try to keep balance? Who cares cause he'll get subbed anyway?
i make them lefties since most pitchers are Right.
San Diego already had 4 lefties in their lineup, so I made him a righty. His 730 power makes him an instant sub anyway
I remember reading that the original made all switch guys lefties. That's what I did.
Moved links and remaining teams to the first post. I'll take the Orioles
TBG - you put in lineups for the Athletics, but no stats

OK I'll make Templeton a lefty to stay consistent.
Cubs are all yours clambutt
Editor request - the ability to move batters up/down in the order. Everytime I put in players I shuffle the order around. Typically I forget someone or somehow keep forgetting that there is no DH.
Already there. Click "edit order" on the header for the team in question
Well I'll be!
how are we handling pitchers hitting #'s? Leave them alone?
I haven't done any pitching stats and will likely stay out of that department...
No pitcher hitting in original, I'd like to leave it that way for the new pitchers we rate as well.
i had done the dodgers pitchers' hitting ablity off the cuff, but i'll remove it.
the a's and rangers have lineups, but no stats yet if anyone wants to help me there.
When I get a sec, I'll post my ratings spreadsheet that should help with pitchers. At least as a base

Wow, only 4 teams left now...and then the even more daunting task of pitchers and error probability...
Just give everyone the same error probability, or that's what my lazy ass would do
I was just gonna try to match pitchers by type to someone in the original ROM. At least for a starting point.
can't you get some sort of teamwide error stat from baseball reference?

I'd be for that, but it'd require even the original 10 teams to have that same error probability, or else it'd be weird...
I started to look at the pitchers, beginning with the Indians...here's a tip, if you google
1986 oakland athletics season wikipedia
or something similar, it gives you the rotation, and you can click the players names and it gives you a little info about the player...it's nice for seeing who was good that season, who wasn't, etc.
I've been rating them by giving them higher curve ratings for pitchers who were good at winning, striking batters out, etc...
Pitching speeds, that's tough. I found that baseball-reference also has "similar players" section, and it's helpful to see how a pitcher matches with already rated players giving you some more help in rating your pitcher...
Orioles batters are done, pretty mediocre...
Having a DH definitely helps the AL team though

The Neyer/James guide to pitchers book should have all of that.
I'll try to find my copy and start going through it, but I'm pretty lazy so no guarantees.
That guide would be super helpful. I don't have a copy though...
Found it, someone point me in the direction of the list of pitchers being used and I'll grab all the info I can on them (pitch speeds, pitches, ratings, what-nots).
Here's the roster file, it updates as we update the ratings.
http://rbi30.sweethoss.com/roster.php?romid=2
I'll try to start filling them in, at least the names.
Going to do the Expos now...
What did we decide on All Stars? This Expos team has Raines & Galarraga, same stats or different?
As it turns out, the guide doesn't have pitch speeds for a lot of guys, it does however include ever single pitch, so I would imagine a guy with your regular + a forkball/screwball you'd want to have more curve?
I'm creating a spreadsheet for it and adding any differentiating remarks (slow curve, hanging curve, sinking fastball, and so on), let me know if you want anything special done.
If you feel their stats warrant different ratings than the AS rating, by all means change it.
OK I probably will, I tend to give more power than the predictions so...
Rangers done, Inky is a stud....
thanks guys for the help on the stats.
No prob, doing the names and lineup is half the battle anyway.
Really liking the community effort going on here, we get this onto carts it may be dee-nee's shining moment.

completely agree. I love that this ROM is being built by a bunch of people from De-née. It's been fun, and when we finally get it finalized, I myself would consider a cart, and I don't play consoles much anymore. Nice work everyone, this is exactly what I was hoping for.

This is what I have done in the past.
Divide the team's fielding% by the average of all the teams. Then multiply by 5 (or whatever number you want to be the average).
I'll take the last two hitting teams and do them tonight after work, and I'll let you guys worry about the pitching
I've uploaded a very basic pitcher helper spreadsheet. It's not meant to be a 100% accurate pitcher rater, but it should help you gauge their ability to strike out batters using the K/9 and help with curve values. I could work up something for a base pitcher speed that we could use as well based on how good the pitcher actually is, but for now, this is all I have.
You have to enable the Macros it asks you to when you load it. If you have macros set to be disabled by default, it might not even ask, so you have to go to "tools, options, security tab, macro security" and set it to Medium.
I think I gotta adjust that sheet though, as it would seem the K9 averages from back then are lower than they are today...
That will have to happen later...gotta jet for a bit...
Hey guys let me in! I can help with whatevers left. I love this shit! Great job so far, lookin good. I tried to login, but I guess I need 'credentials' or something. Let me know what needs doin and I can do'er.
Thanks!
Kahouty, we basically have pitching left...what kind of info can you bring to the table?
Guys, for pitching, what do you think about this...let's get all the players names in there and then I'll gather all the stats up for all the pitchers using some fancy computer programming...
Once we have that, we can compare stats of all these players in a nice excel spreadsheet and use that to help rate them...
Would that be helpful?
Pitching is my specialty, actually. No other way to describe it other than a thorough understanding of actual pitch physics and I grew up playing RBI with my brother and friends, so I understand the game engine/dynamics as well.
But theres the curve/sink factor depending on a particular type of pitch. Forkball vs Screwball, 2 seam vs 4 seam fastball etcetc and then match that to the real life quality of said Pitchers abilities, and translate it to the game.
All good though if you guys have it covered. Looks like I'm late to the party anyhow.
You are late to the party, but we're actually about to embark on the most difficult part of editing the game...if you want an account, PM me a desired password and I'll set you up. Pitching knowledge will help immensely...
There are still a few pitching rosters that need names filled in, a good way to start kahouty. Thanks!
http://rbi30.sweethoss.com/pitchers.php
Expos are done - their bench was so bad I had to give a random guy "Reid Nichols" 800 power to keep them from sucking.
lol Montreal was the Nationals of the 80's...funny how times change...and they don't! :D
OK I finished up the Phillies bench and tweaked the #s put in. So all the rosters are done, but will need tweaking. I see a lot of people did the suggested power, which I felt was a little low compared to the original teams. So I typically gave everyone a little power boost and if they were low on ABs I boosted power and speed even more drastically.
An example was Darren Daulton for the Phils - he only had 8 homers but that's in 138 ABs. So I gave him an 820 power to compensate for the high HR ratio, suggested power was 758 which is WAY too low. If you don't adjust based on ABs a lot of benches (especially in the NL) are going to be worthless. My two cents, but tweaking is easier than getting the shit in.
dangit, gantry, i screwed up your phillies bench. i didn't know you were working on it.
natty gann, please fix the speed ratings that i mistakenly saved over. please recheck all the bench numbers just in case.
also, i listed daulton with a .111 average because he thinks he's going to fly into space or something at 11:11 on dec. 21st 2012. thought it would be funny.
Yes, while the pitchers are being rated, it might be nice to go back and adjust for what Gantry is saying. You guys are machines!
Hey guys,
I got this mostly figured I think, but a couple questions.
What do the values CPUL and CPUR do?
thanks!
So I added the Pitchers for
Baltimore(and stats excepting CPUL and CPUR)
ChiSox(stats forthcoming)
Montreal(stats forthcoming)
San Diego(stats forthcoming)
and I added the Seattle closer who was missing...I saw strassy was working on that staff, so I didn't touch his abilities just added name and ERA, Nunez 3.80 RO
Also before I forget we have the chance to correct a major error by Tengen on my beloved AL All Star team!
George Brett bats LEFT HANDED! And whatever his Pine Tar rating is, we oughta up that a pinch while we're at it!
lol anyway lemme know
I know you guys don't wanna touch the existing teams, but I think this is an exception case.
oooh oooh! Another idea.
30 teams...26 MLB squads, AL/NL All stars
for the extra 2 teams what about all time AL and NL all stars?
Like Dimaggio, Ruth, Gherig on the same team! Ted Williams. YESSSS! Yogi Berra or Pudge catching...obv we would have to collaborate on which players make the cut or whatever.
Or maybe a HOF AL/NL...to be on the team, minimum req is Hall of Fame induction.
What do y'all think?
I wasn't sure what we should do with the remaining teams. To keep it simple, we could actually just remove them, it wouldn't be that difficult to do.
As for fixing the lefty issue, I'd say go ahead...part of me thinks the charm of bugs that were in the classic game makes it just that, classic (e.g., Randal Cunningham showing up as a white dude on some TDs). But, we are trying to make an enhanced version of the classic game, and as long as we don't change too much, it should be ok, especially on the AL/NL teams that noone uses.
As for the CPUL and CPUR, read this thread:
http://forums.dee-nee.com/index.php?topic=23229.0
Cool thx!
Alright, looks like we have all the pitchers names in place. I'm gonna setup a spreadsheet with the stats for all the players listed and then we can sort and play with the numbers using that...perhaps this will help us rate a little better.
Gantry, or anyone else who's opting out of pitcher rating, it could be a while, would you mind perusing the rosters and doing some tweaking? Adjust for ABs, up the power on the suggested power, etc...
Kahouty, thanks for doing the pitchers...one thing though, looks like Tengen didn't always include one closer as part of the bullpen, so we might want to look over those pitcher rosters and take their best 2 RP guys...
I'm busy compiling up all the pitchers from t he teams we've chosen...maybe that will help decide...

Got a busy weekend, but I can definitely tweak the power & speed #s for guys who deserve it.
Whenever man, we dint have a deadline. Thanks for looking into it though.
Yeah I did pick the best pitchers mostly, excepting maybe a couple closers.
Off the top of my head I can think of Gossage and Nunez from Seattle being closers that suck. I'll have a second look and see if theres a better option for those teams.
Graig Nettles is on the Braves & Padres... I'll change a Braves bench player
I uploaded a spreadsheet in the top post with all the pitcher stats from the appropriate teams...this should allow for easy sorting and whatnot. I've also included some calculated columns (shown with a maroon header) which are basically the percentage of maximum to give you a nice overview of a few important categories. I'm going to start rating these bad boys now...
Got a little free time this evening to do some pitcher rating. 9 more teams of pitchers to go before we can call this thing a beta release 1...Kahouty, thanks for your work on the pitchers...the ones you did rate seemed pretty accurate. I did do some googling for each player and only updated to reflect things I found in that...most of it was good...
Wow, this is gonna be one badass ROM.
Alrighty, looks like everyone is rated...I think now it's time to download the ROM, play it out, scan over the rosters, etc and start making tweaks as we see fit.
Anyone wanna test it out man vs. man online, let me know...in the meantime, I'll be working on getting the rest of the ROM correct (the team select icons and the scoreboard icons and whatnot).
After some initial steam, noone's posting anymore...must be a busy weekend for everyone...
There, I got all the team name abbreviations working with my editor...now all that's left is the attract names, and we have a complete beta ROM. Unfortunately I'll have to figure out how to make that work.
did you do the switch hitters by any chance?
I considered that part of the tweaks. Soon as I'm done with the attract mode stuff, I was gonna start on that. Feel free to do so yourself, just let us know what teams you do.
so now that achildprodigy has released his DH and switch hitter codes... are both of these changes going to be in the ROM?
this is insane with the timing of what you guys have been doing.
i'm absolutely amazed at how far RBI has come at the hands of a few dedicated programmers.
Unfortunately, his stuff won't apply to the 30 Team ROM because the player information is in a different spot, so completely new shit will have to get written for that. I have some new hacks coming that my friend is writing that if they come to fruition, they will be fucking awesome. I have asked him to look at DH stuff while he's writing that stuff, but we'll see. For now, this is what we have.
Even still, I don't think I'd personally include it in the official release, as I wanted this to be mainly an extension of the original ROM...if the new patches are eventually written, I could add it for people who prefer it, but at this time, I don't have the patches for the 30 team ROM.
yeah sorry man. had a superbowl party weekend. what do I need to do now? you said you took the pitchers and rated them all? so now what?
Batter adjustments. Basically any teams that the editor just used the suggested power need to be looked at for needed adjustments. Look at batting average, AB, etc to see if power/contact needs increasing. Look for guys who did well over less AB and whatnot.
I'll do a bunch in the next few days
Sweet. Let's polish it up. I'll get the uniforms done and then get your opinions on a few conflicts I had with the unis.
the Reds uni's look horrid...
Alright, I thought they looked fine, but I understand they're your team :) With Boston and St. Louis already with red/white and red/light grey, the only other real option is to make Cin. be red hat, dark grey unis...check it out...
Why not steal the colors from the arcade? They got all 3 teams...
looks way better. well done. I played a couple innings vs. Bos, and there looked to be enough difference to me. thanks.

or this...
Then they'd be almost the same as the Giants. I'm actually fine with the way this looks...only conflict I had left was with Atlanta, and I took your advice and stole the arcade colors for them. I think all the teams actually look good now...
Alright, all the attract names are done. For now, the last two teams are named "Dee-Nee 1" and "Dee-Nee 2" until I figure out how to remove them...
Now it's time to play-test and tweak...
Attached is a screenshot of the uniforms...any suggestions or whatever, let me know. This is as difficult as rating pitchers at times :)
I think I've got most of them looking good...used "dressed to the nines" baseball uniform exhibit website to get most of them...
Nitpicking:
Cubs don't look like Cubs, but exactly like what the Indians should look like
Use Cubs uni for indians and original arcade for cubs
Make Yankees sleeves black. Or is that same as all stars?
It is same as all-stars, but the brewers and american league are same as well...I thought that'd work fine because if you're gonna use the all-stars, probably won't use them vs. anyone but the other all-star team. Just my opinion to get the unis to work right...I'll fix the other teams you mentioned...
The Yankees uniforms look green
Now that I look at this cubs situation, I disagree, Gantry. Check out this evidence:
Cubs:
http://exhibits.baseballhalloffame.org/dressed_to_the_nines/uniforms.asp?league=&city=Chicago&lowYear=1986&highYear=1987&sort=year&increment=9
Indians:
http://exhibits.baseballhalloffame.org/dressed_to_the_nines/uniforms.asp?league=&city=Cleveland&lowYear=1986&highYear=1987&sort=year&increment=9
And BDawk, that color is a dark teal/navy mix color, but either way, I changed them to black.
Also, teams I don't like are the Pirates (considering there's not a good "yellow") and the fact that the Mets and Indians are too close in color. Any suggestions?
Fair enough, though giving the indians the cubs colors and arcade colors for the cubs would fix the mets issues.
When I see the red/blue uni on the Cubs, I see Indians. Anyone else?
Weird. It must just be a preference thing, as I always remembered the Cubs with their blue Jersey.
If I change the Cubs unis to be like their arcade version, then they conflict with Minnesotas...
It's the red sleeves that don't look right, not the blue. I "picture" that uni looking like the indians but I could be crazy...
I see what you're saying. I picked red cause it's in their logo, so I figured it was an acceptable compromise...
I'll mess around with it otherwise...
Does anyone else have an opinion? Chime in you fucks or I'm shutting down the site for 10 days...
HAHA! Anyways, I put up a link on the editor for the public to view:
http://rbi30.sweethoss.com/viewuniforms.php?romid=2
I updated the Cubs...does that work better?
Approved
Dee-Nee Team 1 & 2 look nice
Could you put a light yellow/yellow jersey on the brewers or something? They look identical to Am.
It'd be insanely awesome if someone could figure out a way to let the all-stars keep their regular team jersey colors when playing.
See a few threads back. We talked aboutthis already. Yankees have a similar problem.
I was accepting of this because most people won't be playing all-stars vs. Anyone but the other all-star team. Plus, there are no good yellows.
Yeah man Unis look good. Was gonna say Texas looks a bit weird, but then I looked at the archive and you nailed their road duds pretty good.

I understand about not having these in the 1987 ROM.
I think I speak for more than just myself when saying that if there were hacks for DH/Switch hit/expanded rosters/30 team ROM, it would be fulfillment of a nerd dream for all of us. amazing stuff, please keep it up.
Of course, those would all be nice additions, and all possibilities. My buddy is going through the entire source code of RBI, documenting everything inside so new shit can be added easily. When he's done with that, methinks he may have some stuff to blow your RBI minds.
In the meantime, I'm gonna continue with the edits we have, as well as teach myself 6502/NES assembly so that I can better hack these games as well.
Tweaked the White Sox a smidge, but Strassy did a good job with them...
upped LA Dodgers...
I think the rest of the teams look pretty good...still working on a way to remove those two final teams. Also, I upped the suggested (not actual) power on the editor by 20...just so you all know when you look at it...
** Edit **
I updated the formula a little...it's still not perfect, but it ups the suggested power across the board...it was a little low using 710 as the floor of my formula...
Lips is coming Tuesday and FINALLY returning my NES USB controller. We'll be sure to get a game or two in, plus I'll have the ability to play solo now.
Nice. Let us know the results and how it played.
This thread looks great. I have been away for too long. I will look forward to reading more. Please keep us updated.
Luke
Yeah I been playing the rom a bit and the stats seem pretty good. Nothing stands out as a 'WTF HOW IS THAT GUY SUCH A MONSTER?' type situation. Where we are with the dev? I know you were working on something tecmo, but what else did you need from us?
I'm not working on Tecmo...what dev stuff are you talking about? The ROM is done, save for removing those two teams. That's it...and I left that as an exercise to teach myself stuff. Other than that, just awaiting Gantry's results with Lips on Tuesday...

Gantry's results with Lips on Tuesday...
sounds sexy...
Haha, I wondered if someone would pick up on that.
Ah ok. Sweet. Working on something, Tecmoturd. My writing has gone to shit. Sweet so its a wrap.
Well Lips never made it to my house but I was able to snag a controller. Played a game against the CPU with CLE and somehow lost to LAD. Notes:
* Joe Carter is good
* On a popup to short the CPU caught it yet I was able to tag up to 3rd base and he didn't throw it despite being 15 feet away. Never seen that before, but I don't play the CPU a ton. Soon as a tried to go home he threw it.
* Still don't like the CLE colors, but if it's the only thing that fits so be it.
All in all played fine. Not much power but the CPU was LA and I couldn't hit for shit. Will play a few more with various teams to keep testing

That happens a lot.
OK then I guess I need more experience against the CPU - I recall them throwing immediately after trying to advance the base after a flyout.
not all the time. just like on an overthrow to third, sometimes the fielder will allow you to advance to third and then if you try to go home, then he'll throw.
Pimped this thread and tecmoturd's site on the front page. Dee-Nee.com, almost updated yearly!
Sweet! Looking forward to more ROM feedback.
Since you put it on the front, I felt obliged to update the site with news about the tourney and some info on the 2010 ROM. I should also mention the 1987 ROM...
Also, Gantry, you did pick two teams that are lacking in power...CLE has 4 guys under 785, and then a few 800+ and a Joe Carter at 900+ so they aren't gonna crush everything, but they should be ok...the Dodgers have a similar story...
Still not a fan of the Indians color? I thought you said "approved." Since you were a large contributor, if you really have a preference for their colors and feel it would be realistic that they change, I'm all ears, brother. I just couldn't find any pics with what you previous mentioned, everything was grey/blue. Show me some pics or something, or rationalize with me and I'll change it. I'm anal about that stuff too, so I get it. Hit me with your idea...
In case I didn't post this, I'll put this (as well as a link to the download for the ROM) in the top thread as well as this one...
The roster file for this ROM can be found here: http://rbi30.sweethoss.com/roster.php?romid=2

Nah, I just like to bitch - the colors are easy enough to get used to.
Going to play a game or two every day to see if there are any kinks, but things are looking good
Looks good.
Can't wait until I have time to play.

not sure how you compute your formula, but how can dawson be ranked below jackson? every single programmed ability is better for dawson. do you give a lefty advantage of some sort?

Yes, I give a big advantage to being a lefty.
Hrbek should make the list over mattingly then, imo.

Assuming I cannot play with FCEUltra??
This most certainly does play with FCE Ultra. I just use Nestopia for the netplay, but any NES emulator should be able to run this game, none of the architecture changed, just some of the code got moved to make room for the other teams. I actually use FCE to debug the code and hack it, so I know it runs.
It'd be nice for more people to play this and give us feedback...the download is available in the top post, and that download is a reflection of the current version at all times. If we make a change, that link exports everything that was edited by us up to that point (so does the roster link I provided).
Toronto is loaded... That's all I got so far.
I downloaded the ROM today and I will start playing it tonight with St. Louis. I cannot wait to see how it plays out.
Thanks again for your help.

Why?
Mattingly has 8 points better contact and speed. The only thing Hrbek has going for him is 4 more power points.
alright, then NYY mattingly is overrated, imo.

Ibad the colors, but I will def compare and see if my editor has them right.
I wouldn't assume these numbers are right either. just maybe test them. Not sure if different emulators render them the same. I recall years ago that there were (i think) three editors, and i have played on three different emulators (FCEU, Nestopia, Nesticle).
I believe the historical editors are:
RBI Database
RBI Manager
RBI Editor
I may have some of those old files on my old computer if that's helpful to you in any way.
Are we ready to call this thing done? Anyone done anymore play-testing? I updated the A's uniform, but it hasn't had an update in a while. It played well as far as I was concerned, but I wanted some more feedback if anyone had any...
What should we do with the last two teams? Greatest players of all time from NL/AL? Let me know so I can make it an official ROM of the RPC :)

Here's the roster file, it updates as we update the ratings.
http://rbi30.sweethoss.com/roster.php?romid=2
I'll try to start filling them in, at least the names.
You may already have a finished product, but if not, here are some suggestions for the cubs.
Jerry Mumphry should be much more powerful. He had an insanely good year in '87, albeit in a shortened season. He put up a .934 OPS in 346 ABs. He should at least have an 825 power rating, possibly higher.
As for the '87 lineup, it went a lil' something like this:
1- Dave Martinez
2- Ryne Sandberg
3- Leon Durham
4- Andre Dawson
5- Jerry Mumphrey
6- Keith Moreland
7- Jody Davis
8- Shawon Dunston
