Post by: TβG on 02/22/10, 08:29:31 AM
DO NOT POST NAMES OF PLAYERS THAT HAVEN'T BEEN PICKED

tecmoturd takes dawson with the first pick which is always the safest and traditional call.

beef/tbg take mcgwire and it has NOTHING to do with him being on steroids.

Hopefully AlecTrevylan will log on soon and make his pick.

Nothing too surprising with the first two picks.

ANNOUNCEMENT: TBG and BeefMaster have come to terms on the final details of their franchise merger agreement.  Pending league approval, the team will now be known as the OC Legions of Doom.  The team will keep the OC's signature white uniforms and navy hats while incorporating the green skin of the Legions.

Home games are anticipated to be held in Orange County, with likely single-game events (similar to the Bills' appearances in Toronto) at Sioux Falls Stadium and Hal Schroeder Field (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=hal+schroeder+field&sll=45.940834,-102.15932&sspn=0.044347,0.064716&gl=us&g=Lemmon,+SD&ie=UTF8&hq=hal+schroeder+field&hnear=Lemmon,+SD&t=h&ll=45.935781,-102.165084&spn=0.011088,0.024354&z=16).  In a nod to visiting Legions fans, the OC's stadium will be adding BRAAAAIIINS to the menu at most concession stands.

I'm pretty excited for this league.  Sounds like a lot of fun.  That's my comment...I'm sad that Darknuts didn't run a Tecmo version...perhaps that should happen in the future...

Hell yeah I wanted Bell, but we were not expecting him to last---so we are totally pleased with our selection of The Straw...5 tool player.

It had nothing to do with your strategy. We just feel like Straw is an Empire style player. I'm just worried about selecting players to help me defend our FRBI title. I can care less about anybody else or trying to get in heads. Some people tried that last year and it backfired on them.

My first pick was really down to two players....I took Straw because he's the full package....I was even inclined to take him over Bell...but I doubt I could have pulled that off. Bell is Bell.

This first round is going SLOW. RePeat/Barton is up. Barton, do you have RePeat's number?

And who has Ryno's number?

Canseco was a safe pic there Gantry. He's capable of big things, and of course disappearing for a few games.

I was a bit surprised by Ultimate's pick. Then again, my old hitting coach is capable of hitting 30 jacks this year...and hitting into 30 double plays.

Canseco is #3 in HR/AB for the last 4 seasons among qualifying players (min 100 AB).

He is also 7th in OPS, though he's down at 23 in batting average.

Amazing, Barton just logged off. He was just logged in and I sent him a message. Well, I'm pretty sure he has to check with RePeat first since Repeat is the majority owner of the Rebel Alliance. Normally RePeat doesn't come on to dee nee until 10-11 pm Sweden time.

You guys also need to figure out proxy picks.

I was surprised by both the Bell and Strawberry picks over Canseco.

Bell consistently puts up better numbers than Canseco and Straw hits for a better average and has above average speed, but Canseco has a better HR percentage and is capable of hitting over .600 this year, but the probabilities are against that according to my data.

Yep, he can light it up for sure. He's probably gong to hit .600 and have over 20 jacks. I was going to take him, but you should see how many double plays he hit into---and was gunned down going from first to third and second to home.

I'm looking forward to this draft. I am a better prepared and better experienced manager now, and I think I've got the tools and knowledge to figure out an offense that doesn't have the hitting MVP and then a bunch of dipshits who could turn a double play if you spotted them an out.

I'm having a hard time understanding Nacho hating on my Eric Davis pick and then going ahead and taking Dale Murphy...  difference of 3 contact, 9 power (edge to Murphy) and 10 speed (edge to Davis).  It's not like we picked Spike Owens.

It's simple - Eric Davis was a fine pick and Nacho is in the wrong.   There can be cases for other picks but Davis where you got him is perfectly acceptable

E. Davis: 16th in OPS, 22 in HR/AB, 17th in AVG

Wow, you guys are some impatient fools! I remember Tecmo drafts going a week or two at a time...nonetheless, I understand this is like Christmas for you guys.  My family does take priority, whether it's calming a crying kid, or just chilling with my wife, so if the lapse in time is for too much, I won't be offended if you want to replace me...although I'd like that not to happen.  Anyways, I'm looking at my sheet now, I'll make my picks shortly...

NO. I already made a rule about that earlier. Again---let it be known that once you make your pick, there is no turning back. NO EXCEPTIONS.

It's fine, no big deal...it was MY fault...I can take the scrutiny.  I'm just here to have a good time, if one pick ruins my fake RBI fantasy team, I still get to play fake fantasy RBI at the end of the day.  It's all good...

I know there were other guys I could have taken based off of pure attributes, but I also felt like fantasy sports includes a buncha luck, so I thought I'd take a chance on a little speedier guy and let what he lacks in power be made up by some potential fantasy luck...

it's not that bad of a pick actually.  and being in slot #1 is a lot of pressure, with a bunch of decisions.

A little. The pitchers getting hits and errors is where the realm of luck is introduced. Nothing overwhelming from what I've seen from all the games I scored last year.

Heh, thanks...this shit is fun.  My wife gave me some weird looks today when I explained it to her.  She doesn't understand that it mixes three of my favorite things, fantasy sports, baseball, and RBI.

She said she supports my need and desire to be involved in this shit though, so I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

I will be in class between 9:30-12:30 tomorrow, as well as 4:00-5:30.

So if I'm not around to make a pick you know why.  Just take a Midol and deal with the wait.

I've communicated some ideas with Barton via PM and he has my full support to make picks if I'm not available.

I don't recall so much impatience last year...

I actually was about to post somebody else, but my intuition said no at the last minute. Donnie Baseball has been with the Empire in the last two years and is the leader and captain of our juggernaut program.

Bear in mind that I may or may not have the best intuition if you followed the betting thread :-\

Title: Re: Official RBI Fantasy Draft VI - Comment Thread
Post by: AlecTrevylan006 on 02/23/10, 08:33:35 AM
Mattingly was probably the better pick, but I didn't have time to go through my stuff properly, and Rupert was good for me last year and has been a proven top tier fantasy performer over the last several seasons. I'm satisfied.

Check the OP TBG...ultimate is back to his 9 slot.

Donnie Baseball's position in the lineup will be determined once we have our lineup set and run some scrimmage games. There is no guarantee he starts. Everybody will have to earn a spot during spring training. Our program does not believe in handing a free spot to anyone, especially superstars.

I was sure you were gonna take Gedman, he was the #2 on my remaining players list based on fantasy performance (and up there in raw stats) and seeing as we seem to have a similar system going on I thought I was going to be denied one of my favorite RBIers, if only for the pure pain and suffering he has caused my opponents

Better value means selecting him in a lower round for the same stats.  DwEvans puts up better numbers and we selected him one selection ahead of yours.

I thought about Gedman really hard. He's going to produce unless this year is an anomaly. I also thought really hard about DWevans, but I don't need any more ballplayers on my team with a creepy mustache....

Maybe we are not looking at the same stats and formulas? Did you account how many times DwEvans was thrown out on the bases due to his lack of speed? Or how he was held up at third instead of scoring a run? Sucka....we have the superior scouting staff.

Ultimate, is there any way you can proxy your pick to somebody you feel comfortable doing so with? Just for the next pick. Barton should be logging on shortly and I have Ryno's proxies. So this way, maybe you can make your second pick of the day by lunch and that would be huge to get through the 6th round and into the 7th today. I'd really appreciate it if you can make this happen.

No shit.  Shit's fkn annoying as all hell.  The world is not crashing down around you if a pick isn't made lickety split.

If anyone needs me I'll be taking a shit for the next fifteen minutes, then making about a hundred calls at work.  I think I'm having Chipotle for lunch and I'm really looking forward to it.  I'll probably savor every bite so I'm guessing the meal will run damn near a half hour.  After that I'll most likely need to take a shit again.  Should be a quick one, but you never know.  You never know.  I could be in there for two minutes or I could be in there for forty five minutes.  Afterwards, I might even beat off in there because strangest thing, when I get laid a bunch as I have this week, I'm even hornier than usual.  From there I'll make a few more calls at work, catch up on the day's news, and wrap things up.  Between all that, when it's time for Gantry and I to make our pick, we'll discuss things via Facebook and make our pick as soon as we can, as we've done every time so far.

So basically, what I'm saying is, fuck off and be fucking patient.

Pedro would have been nice but he was grabbed.  I'm happier with Puckett-Boggs than Pedro and scraps.

Puckett has underachieved but he's still got talent.  We're fittting him in a lineup where he'll be set up to succeed, expect good things.

I was hoping Puckett would have made it a little longer so I could take him. He was a part of our organization when I took over Ryno's paper airplane and turned it into a space shuttle---almost halfway through the season (long story, but I acquired Ryno's team). We traded Lindmn for Puckett in season IV....and got to the FRBI WS.

On paper, you'd think Puckett is easily a +.550 hitter and is capable of 8-12 jacks, but he has not lived up to the hype yet.

I benched his ass for Dykstra....

They need to get on base before they can do some damage. The probabilities say they'll hit in the .400 -.430 range over a full season (22 games). But once they get on, they can go from first to home in a hurry. And count on TBT to lead the league in 3b's.

I think this will be Coleman's first year starting if he does get to play all the games. In fact, it will be. It'll be interesting to see what he can do as a starter.

No, O.Smith platooned with Barret after I acquired Smith via a trade. I had them in a platoon role throughout my WS run.

Coleman was 9-13 last year as a pinch hitter for the Sally Cunts...and bear in mind that he had the + 60 hitting boost as a pinch hitter.

That was a shrewd trade I must say. It forced me to get another hitter for my lineup, and luckily I landed Gibson and OSmith. I think Ryno built both of our teams during the trading weeks haha.

But you guys had a killer lineup last year. You easily had the best 1-8 after that trade.

He probably thinks he has Garner and never checked my mail or board after his pick. The funny thing is that he proxied me his picks before I made ryno's picks, and after he chose Hendrick---his next choices were Garner and Speir hahaha. Both taken.

Damn, we could have rolled through and back up had he made that correct pick at the time---everybody was logged on and ready to go. It's these kinds of things that are frustrating. Just torture.

hahaha. The Cinderella team from last year! Your batting order is way better this year so far. You have some damn road runners over there. If they can both hit near .500, you'll be in great shape---they'll cause havoc on the bases and you do have Reggie---he's capable of big things.

Here is the top and first tier of pitchers according to our scouting reports:

1.Cox
2.Gooden
3.Morris

I do know the Rebel Alliance will not make the playoffs :D  You guys are going to have no pop in the 7-8 hole and your 7-8 hitters won't string enough hits together to compensate for the lack of pop---and your pitching won't compensate either. I had to make a couple of trades last year to get more pop because there was no way I was going to win it all with toothpick hitters in the 7-8 hole.

Sucka....

Props to both of you.

AlexTrevylan proxied me some picks, but it's extremely unclear for which round he meant them for due to some discrepancies. In any case, we'll have to wait for him to make his pick.
Title: Re: Official RBI Fantasy Draft VI - Comment Thread
Post by: Darky on 02/25/10, 02:19:23 PM
 - AlexTrevylan selected Teufel at 9:35 am
- his proxies were sent to me at 9:40 am, and Teufel was not on that list
- he said he wouldn't be here until 11:30 am dee nee time
- he was last active at 12.32 pm dee nee time
- TBT (AlexTrevylan's pick is after TBT's  this round) made the last pick at 12:52 am

What do you guys make of this?
Title: Re: Official RBI Fantasy Draft VI - Comment Thread

I am also wondering this.

My guess is that his proxies are valid - it seems that if he didn't think they were, he'd have sent you new ones when he checked in at 12:30.  It won't be the end of the world if we wait for him, although my opinion can be mostly disregarded because I'm a lunatic I don't pick for another 15 or so spots.
Title: Re: Official RBI Fantasy Draft VI - Comment Thread
Post by: Darky on 02/25/10, 02:32:12 PM
Here is his message which was sent after he selected Teufel:

"I won't be here til 12:30ish EST (11:30 dee neee time), so my next pick is...

Garner
Garner
Garner

Then with my next pick
X
X
X
X

If you can't make a pick from the first list, go to the second list. If you can't makee a pick from the seecond... I'll be back soon enough"

Again, this message was sent to me at 9:40 am, and he selected Teufel at 9:35 am. And Teufel was his 4th IF taken which solidifies his starting lineup.

So at the time after his pick and after I got the message, he had 6 picks in front of him before it was his turn.

It does look like this list was intended for his next pick in this round.

I'll think I'll post his proxy pick according to the reasoning here. Does anybody see anything differently?

Nacho/Mike D got a third tier pitcher and in the top ten according to our scouting reports.

I'm liking Buckner in the 8 hole...good contact and some pop...shitty speed though, but he can drive the ball out here and there. We're expecting 6-10 jacks from him this year...crucial numbers from the 8 hole.

He is number 1 all-time in K's. It was a good choice. There is one other guy out there who could put up second tier numbers, but he's either really good or really shitty over the course of 50+ innings. I have four categories and each with their distinctive values, then I crunch some numbers, and out comes the rankings. I don't go by ERA only, but it has a high value.

For instance, the top three career ERA's are Cox-Morris-Gooden, but my ranking system has Cox-Gooden-Morris----all first tier and the only ones in that tier.

Cox is hands down the best pitcher in the league...bar none.

He had the best contact-power ratio for the IF's that were available, and I need that with my 8-hole hitter so he can drive in some runs---plus he's not going to get hit in very much since the pitcher will follow him in the order. It's a risk, but he did hit .533 with 5 HR's and 7 2B's in season III. I'm glad nobody took him in this last round.

Where do you have Alexander ranked on your charts? If your going by career ERA's, then he's down in the bottom tier. He is in the middle of the pack in the H/IP category, and in the HR/IP category, but two seasons were recorded without the HR's given up by a pitcher---so that's not entirely accurate. I'm guessing he's not in the middle of the pack in HR/IP judging by his ERA.

The Sally Cunts made a wise choice with Sbhrgn, and Ryno appears to have the best SP combo so far in the Gantry division. Ultimate has the number 2 pitcher in the league, and his second selection of a SP is crucial imo. There are guys you want to avoid, that's for sure.
Title: Re: Official RBI Fantasy Draft VI - Comment Thread

Here are the two divisions:

Dove RBI

Darkside - Galactic Empire
TBT - Fighting Artichokes
Repeat/Barton - Rebel Alliance
McLane/Gantry - Poopydicks
tecmoturd - Bananahammocks

Gantry Division

Nacho/MikeD - Sally Cunts
AlecTrevylan - Awesome Badasses
TBT/BeefMaster - OC Legions of Doom
Ryno - Pabst Blue Ribbons
Ultimate - Fighting Ulrachers

Also, I'm really leaning on using the same schedule from last year. If anyone objects to this, then by all means you may produce a schedule for this year. It took me a good day to get a schedule together, and I don't want to invest all that time synchronizing all the teams in a schedule again.

How hard can it be?  For starters, I was holding my daughter, so I only had one arm to type.  Two, I don't know the original game like you guys do, so I have to look at the sheet for some help, and it's difficult to navigate with one arm free.

I second Gantry's sentiment about chilling out when it takes a few minutes. Sometimes I can't be glued to the computer...I've been a lot more prompt than some of the other guys on here, so cut me some slack...

The dude hasn't sniffed the playoffs ever since the arrival and dominance of my program in the last season and a half. Bear in mind I took over Ryno's team a little after the middle of season IV, and made his paper airplane into a space shuttle after a fury of trades. We took a last place team and got them to second place, then swept the Poopydicks in the playoffs.

But respects must be given to TBG---he is a two time champ. He and BeefMaster's team is the league's America's team if you will. Beef has lost 2 WS championships.

Yeah man, the Fighting Artichokes pulled off an amazing upset last year in the playoffs. Nobody gave you guys a chance against the Unholy Legions of Doom. Darky, i suggest some keeper stipulations be put in place if it happens.

How bout something wacky like what ever 3 guys you keep, you lose a pick in those rounds(that they were drafted) the following season.  Add in some spice and strategy with who you keep.  If i kept Reggie, I dont have a 1st round pick next season for example.

Also consider only allowing to keep your 3 guys for 1 season then they go back in the draft and you keep another 3.
Title: Re: Official RBI Fantasy Draft VI - Comment Thread

i'd want to agree to stipulations BEFORE a draft.  another thing we could do is shorten seasons to 9 games, cycle through them quicker.  maybe have like a 3-3-5 playoff format.

i'd want to agree to stipulations BEFORE a draft.  another thing we could do is shorten seasons to 9 games, cycle through them quicker.  maybe have like a 3-3-5 playoff format.

No. The benchmark for a season is 22 games. No exceptions.

The probability of a keeper league is very unlikely to happen. If it does, then maybe one player can be a keeper---and only a position player. And that too, is very unlikely.

And looks like Buckner and Doran may be platooning this year. They'll have to battle it out in camp and during pre-season games for a starting spot. Both are heads up Empire style players.

I never knew that queef master was a 2 time WS loser.  Interesting pairing indeed.

Beef lost to TBG in the WS---season III. They have 4 WS appearances between them. Beef is the Bills of the FRBI league.

I believe I have made the playoffs in every FRBI season I've been in, losing in the World Series twice and the LCS either once or twice.

Ha! Nah, I needed somebody to platoon with Buckner. It's healthy for both of them as well as our team. Team play son! Also, they will both be awesome coming off the bench with the +64 pinch hitting boost to their power.

Barrett and O.Smith platooned last year, and together they combined to hit .458 with 18 doubles, 14 triples, and 0 HR's from the 8-hole.

I'm thinking Buckner and Doran will combine to hit .470 with 20 doubles, 4 triples, and 6 homeruns. ^-^

No, there is one pitcher left that really needs to be avoided---he's consistently the worst in the FRBI seasons and is ranked dead last by me----and is in a tier all by himself.

And there is one gem remaining for SP's....middle tier guy who can put up second tier numbers in a season. The other two left in the draft are bottom tier dudes.

I guess Hatcher is an okay pick---was just giving you a hard time. Second slot PH's get about 12 AB's on average during a 22 game season.

Good pick by the Sally Cunts there...Viola was the gem dangling out there.

Also great pick up by the Poopydicks with Bedrock...top tier for RP's---3 are in that tier.

And I'm glad the number one ranked RP according to my charts---fell right in my hands as planned.

I had to go with Righetti there. South San Jose product and we both played baseball at San Jose City College. He is a good friend to Mark Leonard (former Giants pinch hitter/friend of mine) and he is a great guy. He was at Mark Leonard's bachelor party and threw bp once in a while when I played there. So I've met the dude a few times.

Also, his numbers are superb over the last two seasons. We're expecting big things out of him this year! NorCal WHAT!!!!

It does factor in my formula for ranking the pitchers, but the K/IP has the lowest value when I crunch the numbers together from three other categories.

I had Righetti in the middle of the pack (top of lower half) in my rankings, but it all changes  over the last two years. I still think gaging the RP's is not entirely clear except for maybe 2-3 pitchers. There is not enough data I think, plus FRBI season II did not feature all the players because there were less teams (8 teams) in FRBI II. So in that year, the league was much leaner offensively and more of a hitters league as opposed to having 10 teams.

Ultimate did mention that Fridays were tough for him, so I'm not expecting his pick to come any time soon. I do have Ryno's proxies.

And that's kind of funny that the Rebel Alliance has the same exactly pitching staff as I did last year. Calvin Schirialdi was the MVP for the FRBI WS last season. RePeat has the best SP pitching staff in the league without any doubt. Hard to say how Shrldi and Orsco will do this year.

Nah, I was going to take him earlier, but Doran was too good to pass up---for what was left at the time. Barret will get you some big hits if he starts.

Should be an interesting and fun season.

Our IF is kind of weak.  I think Herr will provide good value, and Lombardozzi did well last season and I'm hoping he continues the good work.  If either isn't working out though having Barrett available to shake things up will be nice.

Well, you'll be in a lot of tight games and you do have a superior SP staff. They'll have some off days, but they'll be on a lot. You're gonna be a grinder type team. If your 7-8 and holes can have a good and productive year, you'll be in good shape. If either one of them tanks or both, you'll won't be in the best shape.

Bear in mind that last year I didn't have the best 7-8 hole, and I had to make a couple of trades and I got lucky with that. I needed more pop to match up with the Sally Cunts since they had a really good offense and good pitching. I don't think I would have won last year without getting Gibson and O.Smith via trades. Then again, the Sally Cunts also traded to upgrade their offense. So you do have a good shot this year for the playoffs since you have the pitching. Our division is not going to have the most pop. Right now, it looks wide open.

Also RePeat, I put together a rom with the players on the Artichokes, turd's team, and your team so far. We are 3-0 against you, 1-1 against the Artichokes (blew them out and lost 2-1 in the other game), and I just beat Turd's team 9-6. So 5-1 in some scrimmages. Buckner and Doran are battling it out for a starting spot---fierce. There is a lot of pressure on us to win and our loyal fans only expect a championship since the standard is so high right now.

The teams and lineups are obviously not complete and set, so nobody needs to panic or get excited. The lineups I use for the other teams obviously won't be identical to the ones you guys put up.

All I know is that Jeff Leonard is going to have a huge year from the lead off spot.

Hey tecmoturd, is this what you had in mind for your uniform? The dark brown part did not come out right---I used the darkest brown and it looked like the exact uniform on nightwulf's editor, but it comes out different.

Yeah...and bear in mind that any shade of green on the skin color is not going to blend in very well with the grass.

Darky, I'm sure it will change after running some scrimmages but you can put this lineup in the first draft of the ROM for us:

1.  Trammel
2.  EDavis
3.  Boggs
4.  Armas
5.  Nokes
6.  Puckett
7.  Herr
8.  Lombardozzi

Morris
Cox
Orosco
Schirialdi

Wilson
Barrett
Walling

Not that strong...

Armas and Puckett both had 2 jacks, Davis had one.  Lombardozzi looks like he may repeat his 09 heroics for the alliance, I think he only had 1 out and scored a couple runs.

The empire was barely keeping out of the slaughter zone coming down to their "last out" a few times.  Sheridan had a nice jack to keep the game going at one point.  The boys in black did a great job of spraying the ball down the foul lines for some extra base hits and took full advantage of the computer stupidity by drawing some silly errors.  Also Gladden had a homer off the bench with a right field wallzie.

Morris pitch a complete game.

I hate Lombardozzi...reminds me of Attez (that was Attez's first user name). That dude gets so many weasel hits. He did okay for the Artichokes last season.

Moving on, I think I'm going to try and get in three games a week and hopefully season VI will last about 8-10 weeks. The idea is to get another one started up during July or so. I wanted to do this last year, but I was short on time with the baseball world championships and my team's (real life baseball here) playoff run. This year there will be two seasons for sure---which would mean another long and tortuous draft, but next time around, I'll be sure that the league will have team owners who will take the draft seriously and not hold those of us that do up.

He wont be the MVP of the league or anything but getting a guy who can add value at the bottom of the order in round 11 is huge.

I'm not as sure about Herr.  He didn't look so good in this sim and I might have to monkey with some different lineup combos to maximize his effect (or minimize his mediocrity).  I like having Barrett and Walling as options to call up if he's looking weak.

Lmbrdzzi will be productive enough from the 8 hole. If not him, you have Barret and Herr to platoon with. Use the Force! I got great production from Smith/Barrett platooning last year. Anything over .450 from the 8 hole is great---especially with your pitching. If you guys fall behind in games early, it could be a quicky...

TBG's team can put up some runs in a hurry with all their power, but they have hit into the most double plays and they are going to give a few runs with their staff. But they will mercy rule some teams when they explode in one or two innings.

The Sally Cunts produce a lot of runs when they score with all their speed. They avoid double plays and take extra bases with their speed---compensates for their lack of power.

My team is just an all around balanced team. Hopefully the Empire will find way and get some lucky bounces here and there. I don't think this year will be a two team league like last year when the Empire and Sally Cunts were clearly the two best teams. It's going to be wide open.

Can't wait for the trading to open up ;)

Ran a scrimmage against the Cunts, another win for the alliance.

We ate Saberhagen alive but stalled when Viola took the mound.  Morris pitched another 9 inning gem.

Raines was a little too fast for his own good stealing a base so fast he was locked on 2nd when my RF caught a fly ball and then threw him out at first.  Fielding errors once again hurt the alliance but it was nothing they couldn't handle.

Also, defying logic, Gary Pettis took one out of the park.

Title: Re: Official RBI Fantasy Draft VI - Comment Thread
Post by: Re-Peat on 02/28/10, 05:11:54 AM
The Alliance choked against the Fighting Artichokes in spring training action.  Even though the Rebels were getting bombs from all parts of the lineup (Trammel, Boggs, Armas, Nokes, Puckett) the Artichoke's seemingly never-ending stream of extra-base hits and timely home runs were just too much for the alliance pitching staff to handle.

I couldn't say why but so far in all 3 games my team has made more errors and more bonehead fielding misplays than their opponents...  hopefully these defensive kinks will be sorted out by the start of the regular season.

The biggest story in this game was the lack of production from the 7 and 8 hole from Herr and Lombardozzi.  They'll have more chances to fight for their spot in the lineup but there is active competition from Marty Barrett who had a nice hit off the bench in this game.
Title: Re: Official RBI Fantasy Draft VI - Comment Thread
Post by: Re-Peat on 02/28/10, 05:19:40 AM
The Alliance stomped all over the PoopyDicks faces in spite of a Doug DeCinces home run.  The Rebels just strung together double after double after double and with a mighty HR from Lombardozzi sealed the deal against the Dicks.  After 4 games Herr is the only Rebel to not yet clear the fences, although he did hit one to the wall for a triple in this game.
Title: Re: Official RBI Fantasy Draft VI - Comment Thread
Post by: Re-Peat on 02/28/10, 05:30:52 AM
Continuing the Rebel's preseason...  The Alliance hit a brick wall against the Fighting Urlachers who just seemed to have their number.

The Alliance front office is considering firing their computerized managers as well as his first and third base coaches.  No less than 4 Rebels were run down on the base paths getting caught trying to do too much, and the manager made a controversial decision late in the game to sub in Mookie Wilson for the red-hot Lombardozzi who homered again in this game.

The Rebels have also officially put IF Tommy Herr on probation as he produced yet another sub-standard performance.
Title: Re: Official RBI Fantasy Draft VI - Comment Thread
Post by: Re-Peat on 02/28/10, 05:51:23 AM
The Wisconsin Classic was a white-knuckle slugfest until the very end with a 2 out come-from-behind victory for the Alliance.  With 2 out and down 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th Calvin Schirialdi managed to get a blooper single that set up an Alan Trammel HR to tie the game, then Eric Davis doubled and was driven in by Wade Boggs for the win.

The Banana Hammocks brought the thunder with perennial favorite Andre Dawson getting on base with every at bat, although the most picked man in the league Phil Garner only managed to go 1-5 with 1 RBI.

The game was a comedy of errors as both teams had difficulty in the field resulting in scored runs as well as more over-aggressive antics on the basepaths.

The real story of the game was in Rookie manager Turd's #2 pitcher pick, Roger Clemens.  As a rookie last year Re-Peat found out the hard way the kind of liability Clemens was for any team he was on, and this year looks no different.  The 12 runs given up between the 5th and 7th innings were a result of Clemens coming into the game, included in the barrage of hits was Tommy Herr's first home run, helping his cause in the clubhouse.

The Imperial invitational will continue today.

Also, I'm involved in the structuring of a Champions League ROM tournament involving the finalists or playoff participants from seasons III-V. Season II is up in the air because only 8 teams were in that league which means that the league was much leaner as well as the teams.

We have an average team. I wouldn't say we are any worse than that and we are definitely not going to go 15-7 this year like last year, but I think we are good enough to reach the playoffs---like anyone else. After staying up until 6am and sleeping until 3pm, the Alliance had a groggy start this morning getting slaughtered and shut out by the badasses in 3 terrible innings.

The offense completely stalled and Morris seems to be suffering from fatigue after the quadruple header last night.

The Badasses were putting the ball in play, which seems to be enough against the Alliance as really, really, really bad fielding choices were once again the order of the day.  Trammel at short is doing too much to carry the team, and his attempt at out-of-reach ground balls is consistently putting the OF out of position to back him up.  While the alliance trusts his abilities they're looking to see a little more maturity from this rising star.

Cox shit the bed against the OC, giving up 11 runs in his 4 innings on the mound, ruining Morris' quality start.

The OC showed serious swat at the top of the lineup with McGwire starting his game with back-to-back homers.

The management is still distressed about poor fielding, although today it was on the right hand side of the field.  2B Tommy Herr was unable to snag far too many grounders, and this coupled with his lack of production at the plate lately may spell disaster for him.  Marty Barrett has been looking better and better in practice and is anxiously awaiting a call-up.

The Rebels redeemed a slow morning by chugging the Blue Ribbons to close out their preseason action.  They had the Ribbons on the ropes the entire game, although the boys in Blue (ribbons) refused to go quietly and many times avoided getting slaughtered, only to end up losing by 10 after a full game anyways.

The Rebels got solid production from all areas of the lineup and the pitching staff shook off their earlier troubles to show good mental fortitude today.  The management now has a lot to consider what changes they may wish to make before the start of the regular season.

Rebels Wrap Up Preseason Action
AP - Mayville, KY Alliance Spring Training Facilities

The Rebels end their preseason 5-4.  The Alliance isn't looking dominant but with a couple solid pitchers to hold up their perennial contact and speed based offense they will certainly be a pushover to no one and a real contender for the playoffs this year.

Management is going to convene later today to discuss the state of the team and possible shakeups in the batting order.  Mediocre production from Herr will most likely see him moved to the back of the bus or sent to the bench in favor of Barrett, this will be left to the coaches and the performances of both players in practice sessions.

The Rebels were hoping for big things from Kirby Puckett and so far the outfielder has met and exceeded all expectations.  Management is considering giving Puckett a boost in the batting order to maximize his production although the solid efforts of the rest of the squad make it difficult to decide who might be moved back to make room for this rising star.

Steve Lombardozzi also showed a significant amount of flash in the preseason with great OBP and flashes of big league power.  He hit as many HRs as highly valued stars Alan Trammel and Matt Nokes, although the inability of Herr to get on base really crippled his RBI production.  Look for Lombardozzi to be moved up at least one spot in the lineup, and possibly more before the season opener.

Top picks Eric Davis and Tony Armas performed as expected from top picks.  Davis was able to send many shots into the stands as well as producing a lot of extra base hits with his legs.  Getting this burner in scoring position with less than 2 outs is almost a guaranteed run and Davis has made his case as a 1st rounder, in spite of early off-season criticism from the alterna-douche liberal media.

Armas has been what everyone knew this ancient veteran would be, power as good as anyone is the league and speed that makes one wonder if he's running on 18th century prosthetic legs.  Critical as a base clearer, Armas suffered from the aggressive base running style of the Rebels and found himself forced into many rundowns by the over aggressive third base coach.  Armas did not win many of these rundowns...

As the only returning player to the Rebel roster, Wade Boggs has showed the plate abilities that consistently make him one of the best values in the league.  With a few home runs and leading the team in triples, Boggs has recently been made team captain and will undoubtedly continue to drive in speedsters Trammel and Davis as well as getting himself in scoring position for sluggers Armas and Nokes.

In spite of a couple off days the Alliance pitching staff continues to be one of the most feared in the league.  Purchased wholesale from last year's championship Empire team, this stable is full of attitude and is ready to Re-Peat last year's glory.

It'll be interesting how that championship staff does in a new environment. Word around campfire is that they miss the the first class Imperial training facilities and our quality organization. You guys will be tough for sure, but this division belongs to the Galactic Empire. Championships are only expected here and we plan on finding a way to win, we are after all, the Empire! Our dynasty is only beginning young one.

It is funny and awesome irony though RePeat, the Galactic Empire's pitching staff from last year is now part of the Rebel Alliance hahahah. I love it.

Our team balance and mix of speed and power on offense, and our good pitching SP should keep things manageable until our RP's take over. I'm excited about our bullpen---they've been the difference so far in these preseason games.

Giving up 6 runs in a start is not bad at all. You guys only gave up 16 runs and that is moderate. 10-12 runs given up in a game is the golden standard.

Kruk hit a grand salami in the eight inning. Stanly may blow a lot of leads this year. Smith looked great in relief.

Also, Vince Coleman is a weapon. Wow! If he gets on first, he's either scoring or going from first to third in a hurry on any ground ball through the infield. He even hit a bomb in a game that I saw.

Gotch'ya Repeat.

Spillman terrorized us with 5 hits, and Nolan Ryan went a complete game. We were thrown out at home a couple of times and had a critical double play kill a rally. We were right there from taking the momentum in the game. Sutclf had a rough start.

This will be an interesting story. Barrett is well trained in the ways of the Force and he can both be clutch and break your heart, but he helped us win a few ballgames last year. He's the type that looks like shit on paper, but gets it done. That damn Lmbdrzi is the same way.

My 8 hole hitter Doran, we like what we are seeing. He's pure hustle and a sparkplug. What he lacks in pop, he makes up for with his speed. I'm seeing maybe 8-12 triples out of him this year. He has officially won a starting spot on our lineup. Buckner will be an asset coming off the bench to pinch hit.
I'm really pleased with my top five, and the 6-7-8 holes are productive enough to compensate for the lack of power. Sheridan uses the whole field really well and can get some big hits, and his speed is good enough to avoid putouts, and he has some pop. Heath will be steady with some hits and doubles and hr's here and there. He has a good contact-power ratio which will help keep rallies going. Also, Sutclf and Vlnza are good hitters for pitchers. With Doran on base, this could generate some runs.

How do you like your team Mike? I've been watching a ton of games and I have seen everybody play. I gotta say, there is no clear favorite right now.

Also, the errors were set on 4 last season, and after watching all these scrimmage games, there are just too many BOPs---outfielders dropping routine flyballs is just unacceptable.
I think this needs to be cleaned up. I'll see how the game plays by adjusting Nightwulfs editor and the ROM to a 2 rating and 3. I'll let you guys know later how this looks.

I like the Cunts mix of power, speed, and contact.  Raines, Murphy, Dewey, Mitchell and Carter all have a lot of pop.  We have some weakness at the 6-7-8 spots, but  they still seem to produce when needed, especially Kruk.  Molitor is an enigma.  Pitching staff is solid if unspectacular.  I think we'll be a top team.  Our outfield is the tits.  Raines-Murphy-Dewey can't be beat.  Seems like a lot of teams have a  ton of power up top, and then a significant drop off in hitting with the last three.  I think our emphasis on contact for our late round picks will pay off.

Yeah, you guys are alright. I've seen your 6-7-8 holes avoid a lot of double plays, take extra bases and also get inf singles with their speed, and produce. Not much pop though, so if 2/3 of those guys have an off day, it can be hard unless your top of the order has a huge day. I'd say your biggest liability right now is King. I like the Cunts chances to make the playoffs from what I have seen----though you guys just got mercy ruled by the Blue Ribbons in a scrimmage game. But that is just one game, I've seen you guys win your share with all these games I have been watching.

Right now, I'd say the OC are the slight favorites to win your division---Gantry division. They can score runs in a hurry with all their power and have the ability to come back. However, they've hit into the most double plays with their lack of team speed and have been thrown out at a lot of bases. Benito has been doing well though from the 8 spot for them. Also their SP is not the best. They've been pretty even in their games and they are by no means dominant. But they will have some games where they will put away teams quickly, and also let teams back in the game quickly.

The Badasses don't look as good as last year so far. Their SP is okay, but will give up runs. They have Bruno, Gedman, Jones, Ripken, and Bell---so there will be plenty of bombs there. Though I still think Ripken is a jinx. The bottom of the lineup is okay and has pop, but lacks speed there.  It's hard to say if they'll be in the hunt late in the season. They have lost more than they have won with the scrimmages I have seen.

The Blue Ribbons aren't as bad as last year, but they are not great----but their SP staff is really solid. They have a good chance to be in the playoff hunt late in the year.

The Fighting Ulrachers look solid since they have good pop and Gooden, their bullpen is nothing spectacular though and their team speed is not the best. But I'd expect them to make the playoffs.

Over in my division, the Poopydicks look okay. They have good pop and can hit a bit, and their SP staff is okay. I expect them to be in the hunt all year.

The Bananahammocks have Dawson and their lineup is pretty good. Stinky Sullivan has done okay from the 8 spot. They'll need a big lead going into the late innings because Stanly seems to always give up a lot of runs out of the pen.

The Fighting Artichokes will be tough, but they won't be the best come from behind team since they only have 4 legit HR hitters---but they do have great team speed. If Nolan Ryan (he has the worst career ERA)  can have his best year, then they should fight for a playoff spot for sure.

The Rebel Alliance should battle for a playoff spot with their starting pitching and bullpen---championship winning pitching staff from last year. If they fall behind in games early, it'll be hard for them to stage comebacks since they don't have the best pop, but there are some guys like Puckett and Boggs with good contact rating to get some hits. They'll be in a lot of games, so they don't have to be the best hitting team, but they have good enough hitting to win some ball games.

My team appears to be solid. Our SP pitching staff is not superior like last years, but they are second tier pitchers and will have their share of good days and bad days. Our bullpen is the strength of our pitching staff. Rags and Robinson will be the difference for us in tight ballgames late in the game. I like our team speed and we have enough pop from 1-7. Doran in the 8 hole appears to be working out. He can get some hits, hit an occasional HR, and his speed is certainly an asset. I like him better than Barrett/OSmith---my 8 hole last year. Our weakness appears to be having big innings and coming from behind we are down by more than 5 runs. I like our chances to 3-peat for a Dove League title...but it's not going to be easy like last year.

More scrimmage scores.

I juggled my lineup and put in Sheridan in the 2 hole. He hit over .500 there last year with 11 jacks and he has good speed. He seems to hit better in the 2 hole than the 6 hole.

I also moved Straw to the 3 hole, Donnie baseball to the 4 hole, then Gaetti to the 5 hole----putting Madlock in the 6 hole and Heat in the 7 hole. Doran is a huge surprise. He's been doing really well in scrimmages---he's going to have a few triples and maybe 5-6 jacks this year and his speed will take those extra bases. I'm really excited about my 8 hole and Sheridan in the 2 hole. My lineup really functions a lot better in that order and we have been scoring more runs now. The Empire HAS THE LOOK!!!111

Also, Sutclf is a better pitcher when he starts and struggles a bit in relief. Nando seems to do better in relief.

The bullpen is solid. The Empire's confidence is riding high right now and we are ready to host the Alliance for week 1.

We just got smoked by the Fighting Urlachers- 11-1.  Gooden was lights out, gave up 1 run in the first and then nothing else for 7 innings.  Only managed 5 hits.  The Urlachers look like the team to beat.  1-8 just a great lineup.

Molitor lead off for me last year.

My rookie season was kind of rough.  There is a huge difference in numbers and performance as well as human controlled performance and computer controlled performance.  I really expected good things out of some key guys (Hrbeck, Maldonado, Whittaker, Clemens) and none of them performed as well as I had hoped.

I've taken those lessons and put them to use this year though, and I fully expect the alliance to contend.

I ran a best of 5 vs the Sally Cunts. Cunts won at home in a rout, Badasses won at home, Cunts won at home in a rout, Badasses won at home, then we came down to the final game (see below).

It was a crazy one. My bullpen sucked. I challenged Ripken and Knight in the 7th inning to determine whethere I'd switch them in the lineup. Over the next 3 innings, they produced almost exactly the same (Ripken homered, Knight homered, Ripken popped out, Knight popped out, Ripken RBI double, Knight RBI double). For now, Ripken maintains his batting order position, but he is officially on notice should he fail to produce compared to Knight.

I like Gedman at the top of the lineup. Some power at the top of the lineup, gets on base a solid amount, and his slow speed is minimized because he's probably not having many people on base ahead of him, and Jones behind him can hopefully beat out some double plays

I ran a best of 5 vs the Sally Cunts. Cunts won at home in a rout, Badasses won at home, Cunts won at home in a rout, Badasses won at home, then we came down to the final game (see below).

Interesting and thanks for sharing a recap. Ripken jinxes any team he is on for some reason---ask Ryno. He made the last out for the Sally Cunts in the epic FRBI V WS game 7 in extra innings when we won by one run.

Also, are you using the same stadium and location this year?

And it is a smart move to have a power hitter in the leadoff spot----he'll hit in the pitcher if the pitcher gets on and keeps the inning going----that way the pitcher's lack of speed on the bases is minimized in that way instead of having a contact hitter with no power get a hit and expose the pitcher's lack of speed on the base paths---though if the number 8 hitter is on the bases and has good speed than it's cool, but it is good to have somebody strong enough to drive em in from the bottom of the order with one swing.

Personally, I don't adhere to that. I like having speed at the top of the lineup (but with HR pop) and bunching my speedsters together to cause havoc---maximizes their strengths imo. Putting together a lineup that synchronizes together and gets maximum production is critical.

And a week 1 matchup----El Torro cruised until he just got to tired---but we held on to win with a Buckner pinch hit walkoff.

The Sally Cunts will no longer play at Bill Belichick Stadium.  I am putting my foot down.

Give us Pink Triangle Field.

I think we should play at Swayze Memorial Park at the Double Deuce.  Kind of like The Ballpark at Arlington.

Just simmed a rematch against the Fighting Urlachers.  Cunts win in a rout, 19-9 6 innings.  Murphy with a grand slam, K Mitch with a 3 run jack, Dewey with a 3 run homer, and Rock Raines with a 2 run homer.  Lots of production from Pendleton and Kruk.

Stadium noted RePeat.

MikeD and Nacho, I think we gotta go with Swayze Memorial Park due to Swayze's mystique with Dee Nee.

One day until Opening Day!

I object to the Swayze Memorial Park naming.  Counter-proposal pending.

Given that the games will be played in Minnapolis, Prince's hometown, I would like to name our stadium:
