A 2-homer game for Gagne?  Madness!

Marquis picked right before me and to my absolute horror, he took The Hawk.  I was hoping to combine Reg-gie and The Hawk.  Not that I'm unhappy with EDavis, but it would have been nice to have The Hawk.

the dude either has some high float or a mess between the cheeks.

There's no way Hawk slips all the way through round 1 to you. I'm sure that Glass Joe, dove, or myself would have pounced on him.

QuoteI was hoping to combine Reg-gie and The Hawk.

Nice idea, except that they both play RF, so it wouldn't be legal.  It'd rule the world, but it'd get you a smack upside the head from ShitPaw.

Actually, I didn't like Marquis' pick of Dawson - RF is a strong position, and I thought it would make more sense to take an all-star at a weaker overall position.  As usual, I am an idiot.

As usual, I too am an idiot.  I reread my post and couldn't believe I wrote it.  I guess I could have gone Dawson and then, shit, I don't know.  I think it worked out pretty damn well.

I'm surprised nobody jumped on McGwire - if you think about the range of choices, he's probably the best 1Bman... I don't know how he stacks up to DaEvans, but I think he does about as well as Dawson with homers.

Big Mac is a bench player, kind of dumb to waste a pick on a bench player

Yet another correction - McGwire's a bench player, not a 1B.  The AL's 1B is Don Mattingly, and you can do better by picking a regular player.

Really, there aren't a whole lot of all-stars worthy of a first-rounder.  Dawson's immense power makes him a decent bet, and all the LFs and CFs are good (weak positions on the regular teams), but other than that there's Ripken, who's comparable to Trammel (less speed, slightly more power) but miles ahead of every other SS, and Schmidt, who's not significantly better than Gaetti, DeCinces, or Brookens.  The other really good players are on the bench (McGwire, Murphy), and I wouldn't spend a 1st-round pick on a guy who will bat once a game.

EDavis is a pick I'm very pleased with.

I didn't even think about that; I sub him so automatically for Randolph... Of course, Mattingly is the 1Bman.

dvldog

I thought Saberhagen might have made the first round - I think everyone views pitching as pretty non-essential though.

Most people took pitchers near the end.

BeefMaster

Fernando wouldn't have been a bad pick, since he's got decent drop.  Really, though, pitching isn't nearly as important as hitting in an RBI fantasy league.  If it was a player-vs-player league with curve pitching, then pitchers would be a hot commodity.

I truely think a pitcher in the urly rounds is a waist.  Furdnando wood bee the onlee ekseption to the rool.
Head to head it wood be a difarent story.  Eyed take Tudor with my furst pick.  Dephunittly.

heh heh.  i injoyed that won.

doveRBI

I was planning to take Dawson, but then I had to choose Bell or Canseco and chose bell strickly because I thought that LF had stronger players than CF left to take.  Paid off in Straw i think.
