OK, most agree that there is no way that Houston should be one of the arcade teams, but which team got screwed?

I would have liked to see the Pirates
Clemente, Stargell, Honus Wagner, Tukulve, Dave Parker, Bill Mazeroski

Other possible good ones: Orioles, Phillies

The Tigers, for sure:

Cobb, Greenberg, Heilmann, Kaline, Gehringer, Newhouser, Lolich...

The Reds are a pretty dubious pick as well, considering almost all of the players are from the Big Red Machine era, not to mention that all of their pitchers totally suck.

The Indians and the White Sox also have a pretty good case for being in there.

The Phillies and the O's (including their years as the Browns, I assume) aren't bad, but not quite up to same level, IMHO.

Its really weird that the programmers would pick nine original franchises and then Houston as the only expansion team.  Any of the other seven original teams would have been a far better choice, but I'd have to agree that Detroit got especially screwed over.  It would all make sense if one of the programmers happened to be a huge Astros fan, but then why would he have made them so horrible in both versions of the game?
What a horrible night to have a curse.

We actually had a similar discussion last summer, and I created an all-time teams ROM based on it.  My post of the ROM is here.  I think I ended up with the power numbers too high, but I believe the team rosters are pretty good.

The teams we picked were the Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers, Athletics, Indians, Cubs, Cardinals, Giants, Dodgers, and Braves.  The teams also don't match up with the arcade teams, as the arcade ROM seemed a bit biased toward recent (at the time) players, plus some players have earned spots based on the 15 years since RBI came out (Bonds, Garciaparra, Chipper Jones, etc.).

In an effort to create some good smack-talkin' around here, my All-Time ROM clearly smokes BeefMaster's like Jung Bong.

And it has all of Nightwulf's cool new toys in it, too.

Just looked at your ROM, hadn't actually seen it before...  I'm struck by how amazingly similar they are, mine and yours.

Still, I stand by mine.  Any Oakland team without Mickey Cochrane catching is not worthy of the name.

I too vote for Detroit over Houston.  Houston simply doesn't have the firepower to be good against the all-time teams.  Christ, the arcade Houston might only be better the NES Houston in terms of NES/Arcade combined...

7 NL teams and 3 AL teams in the Arcade too...

I just checked my ROM, and sure enough, I forgot Cochrane.  The A's aren't one of the teams whose history I know very well, but Tenace over Cochrane is ridiculous.  I'm still deciding whether I want to re-upload the ROM to nightwulf's page and fix it, though - I don't play the ROM much.
