RBI House games 4-23-08

Couldnt ask for a better deal.  A guy that lives 2 blocks away is up for playing RBI any day of the week.  He was a semi regular at the bar RBI night as well and his game is really starting to improve.

Witt vs Krukow on the hill.....
Scoreless into the 9th, a tired Robinson serves up a 2 run shot.  Krukow went into the 7th before coming out.  In the 9th, using his last pitcher Donnie Moore serves up a 2 run bomb to Maldonado(i think).  A HR in the 10th pulls it out for me on a tired Moore.  Standard issue Cal loss.   

Game 2.
Sutton-Reuschel match-up.
Another pitchers duel as its tied 1-1 thru 6.  The 7th goes bad as i serve up a couple homers and CAL runs out to a 6-1 lead.  A Will Clark homer late tacks on a  run, but game 3 is now on tap as Cal cruises 6-2.

Game 3.
Witt gets lit up with a couple solo shots early, then the wheels fall off for the pen later.  SF rolls 6-1. 

This guy is ready for a 5 man local tourney for sure.  As much as we've played this will probably become a running thread on a daily basis.

Todays daily RBI games

CAL @ NY(me)
Game 1.

1-0 thru 5 or 6(NY leads).  He fucks up and brings in Donnie Moore instead of corbet and moore gets shellacked to the tune of 6 runs in 2 innings.  NY rolls 7-0.  orosco starts and puts in 5 innings of work.  Gooden mops up.

Game 2.
Orosco starts off ineffective and gives up 3 runs in the 1st couple innings.  Ojeda rights the ship in the 4th.  Carter and Strawberry go Back 2 Back yard and its 3-2 in the 5th.  Ny ties it up an inning later and a Hernandez bomb later on gives em a 4-3 lead.  Ojeda serves up a moon shot to center by Jones to tie the score. 

As we head to extras Cal is ahead in the arms race as Im using my 3rd pitcher(mcDowell) and he's still on Corbet.  Corbet exits and Moore gets worn out in a hurry.  McDowell rolls geting quick outs.  A very tired Moore gets by Hernandez, and Carter but Strawberry puts one into orbit for the walk off win.

We talked strategy afterwards about how he should have walked Straw to face hojo with 2 outs.

intense negotiations are in the works via email for the next day-lonh 5 man RBI tourney.

This thread inspired me to email around for some RBI games tonight.  Nobody ever wants to play curve though, fkn straight pitch players...

I find straight pitch fun every once in a while, but i just dont see much strategy in it.

Malnu probably still hates my guts because i once purposely let pucket get called out on strikes(fearing a double play ground out to end the game) to bring up Hrbek who knocked in the game winning run.  So theres a little here and there.

I will give the drinking championship its due though.  That alcohol is bound to fuck up your game late in the day.

Game 1
Clemens vs Alexander
Armas blast a solo off a tiured hernandez in the 8th to tie it @ 1.  A tired Stanley serves up a Nokes homer in the bottom of the 9th for the 2-1  win. 

Game 2
Tied @ 0.  A throwing error leads to Gibson getting to 3rd, which he scores on a ground out for a 1-0 lead.  A solo shot by Lemon makes it 2-0.  In a bizarre fuck up throw instead of getting a double play my 3rd baseman throws it to 3rd base.  Fuck up costs me a run.  A Geman solo ties it.  Someone lefty goes yard for detroit goes yard for a 3-2 lead, and hernandez and king hold on as Boggs grounds into a DP to end the game.

2nd inning
Rice and Evans hit B@B shots 2-0

3rd inning
B2B doubles by Trammel and Gibson.  Evans knocks in Gibby with a single.  2-2 game.

4th
Clemens infield single is followed by an Armas bomb.  BOS leads 4-2

5th Rice solo shot.  BOS up 5-2.
Bottom half Trammel 1b and a SB on a tired Clemens is followed by a Gibby double.  Evans greets Stanley with a 2 run homer to tie it @ 5.  Lemon adds a solo and its a 6-5 detroit lead.

In the 6th Trammel gets a 2b followed by a gibby double and its 7-5.

In the 7th baylor, Evans, and Gedman all single to left and its 7-6.  hernandez gets out of the jam.  King comes into get the last out of the game and detroit sneaks by again 7-6.

Dewey adds a solo.  3-0 Boston

5th
Whitiker doubles, moves to 3rd on a ground out and morris gets an RBI infield single.

7th  Evans goes yard for detroit and its 3-2.
Lemon goes yard to tie.
Trammel goes yard for 2 more and 5-3 detroit.

Rice blasts out a 2 run homer for a 6-5 boston lead, and Dewey goes yard again with a man on to make it 8-5.

Bottom 8th, Evans and Nokes single, and theres men on the corners.  madlock just misses a homer foul, and Boston manges to hold on in the 9th.  8-5 final.

Game 3 he finally gets me in a 2 of 3 series.  4 long balls by Boston-Dewey, burks, baylor, and gedman and Boston rolls 7-2 in the finale.

Played cowboy curtis Hillbilly again last night. 

DET(me) @ Bos

some manufactured runs lead to a 2-0 detroit lead after 2.  Long ball o rama becomes the name of the game, and the capper is an Evans HR to right that doesnt come down from the heavens(not that we were able to see).  7-2 lead after 7 1/2 innings.  Bottom of the 9th the manages to get runners on the corners and Armas is the tying run at bat, but grounds weakly to 1st base.  Detroit sneaks by 7-4.  whew!

Game 2...pitchers duel.  Detroit takes it 2-1.  Teams combined for only 8 hits, and 2 solo homers.
