This past weekend I introduced my 2 strike theory with Detroit to Gantry.  He's is a little skeptical and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or is will to do a little research with it.

My theory, with Detroit, is that you hit more homers with 2 strikes than on any other pitch.  So in straight pitch, purposely taking 2 pitches results in a better chance of a homer on the next than on any other pitch.  I have noticed this for a long time and just never said anything.  I'm not saying that they don't hit homers on the 1st or 2nd pitch but it seems to me the 2 strike homer is a legit theory.  Has anybody else noticed this?

NOTE:  this theory does not ring true for Chet Lemon or Brookens. Mainly, the 1-5 hitters (assuming you sub in Sheridan in the 5 hole) and Sweet Lou in the 7 hole.

I've never thougt about that appoach, but it seems like I give up a lot of 2 strike bombs.

By the way it was nice to see Burnzky, put a post up, even though it contained nothing close that could be considered a rational thougt. j/k keep em coming

Your two strike homers have more to do with speed and positioning than the actual number of strikes.  It is much more difficult to 1) time the pitch and  2) get your batter in the proper spot  immediately after a foul than after taking two pitches.   The power comes from the fact that you've had time to see the pitches and get your guy in the correct spot.  If you were to foul off more pitches on  strike one, I don't think you would be as successful...

Either way, it obviously work so there's no reason to abandon it...

Gantry is right on with this one, even if you are playing curve, you have a better eye for the pitches after two of them. Sometimes it is a pitcher's tendency to put one over the plate after back-to-back strikes also in the curve game, because he (or she) feels the urge to put the batter away and wants to through another strike.
If you're wearing rubbers take them off before you come in.

And to elaborate with the fouls, many times in straight pitch you are such a rush to get to your position (which for most of us is outside at the top of the box) that your timing can be off if you don't make it all the way there or the pitcher moves to an unexpected spot on the mound...

When it comes right down to it, there isn't much of a reason to swing at the first two pitches when playing striaght-pitch.  Though if every batter for every team took two, that would make the game longer and more boring...

I agree with all the statements provided and they all make sense however I'm not saying that is has to be on the third pitch with 2 previous strikes.  So even if you foul off 6 pitches in a row, as long as you have 2 strikes on you there is a bigger percentage of homers than with 1 or no strikes.  God knows I'm the king of fouling off pitches.  Maybe it is just me but if I play against Detroit, I want that person to swing without 2 strikes on them than with 2 strikes.

Just so I know whats going on, what exactly are the rules for your straight pitch, is it right down the middle, can a sinker be thrown or fastball, or do you just press A and let it float down. Just curious on how there are foul balls.

You can move on the mound and change your speeds, though no slowballs with two strikes....

Ok, so the ball must come straight down, no wrinkles in it. I think I got it, just curious.

Your 2 strike theory might work for you and if it does great.  But today i tried it, and it didnt work. Maybe i was having a bad day, but i cant go from scoring 21 runs in the first inning while swinging at the first good pitch. then swinging with 2 strikes and going down 1-2-3.
