Well, the amount of real estate differs with your screen resolution ... but we're probably past the days where you have to keep things designed with 640x480 in mind.

The smiley system is pretty customizable. Anything can be added to either the post form or the [more] popup with any :smileytag: to activate it. So I'm open to any and all suggestions; they take like 30 seconds to implement.

My only restriction is that I have no interest in turning into one of those forums that has literally hundreds of idiotic smileys. There's plenty of sites to hotlink them from if you really feel the need for or something similarly bad.
