Someone probably has stats on this, but I haven't seen them yet...

I am trying to figure out, among the hitters that tend to drag their asses around the basepaths at about half the speed of Ron Hassey, exactly who is the worst.

Armas would've been my first guess, but after playing a full 9 games with Detroit, I have to say Matt Nokes is just as slow. Also terrible are Bill Buckner (Bo) and Alan Schroeder (Am). Eithet Laudner or Lombardozzi from the Twins is also up for this award, as is Tony Pena from the Cards.

Anyone have a real answer?

Note -- another possible glossary entry:

Matt Nokes Triple: Any time the batter hits the ball all the way to the wall, but is held to a single.

Taco:

If you check out the teams page - http://dee-nee.com/rbi/teams.shtml - you can check out every players actual power, contact and speed ratings.  There are quite a few guys at the lowest 118 rating, like Armas, Buckner etc.  Check it out...

I am secretly hoping that capt_taco is named after the 80's singer "When you're blue, and don't know what to do, go to the place where fashion sits....puttin on the Ritz"
"Drinking and playing RBI is a great idea!  Kinda like drinking and, well, anything else!"- Kevin McDonald, Boston neighbor

I think Armas is by far the slowest - without any knowledge of the computer stats. Here's a question, are the pitchers as slow as, say, Armas? I think they are, a few people insist they're not.

Not to be a pain here, but it's Bill Schroeder, not Alan.  Perhaps he is 2nd most unknown, after Sir Pedrique.

The FAQ tells all my friend:

http://dee-nee.com/rbi/faq.shtml#BESTHITPIT

Who is the best hitting pitcher in RBI Baseball?

Though some people swear by the hitting abilites of certain pitchers, all pitchers have the exact same batting characteristics. They are as follows - 64 contact (26 points worse than Sullivan), 118 speed (same as Tony Armas) and 128 power (64 points lower than the weakest hitter). This was determined by watching the RAM of the game itself while playing on an emulator. Thanks to Nightwulf for figuring this out. And it is correct, all pitchers hit the same...

BeefMaster

I just noticed a possible typo on that FAQ entry - it lists pitcher power as 128, which seems a bit low.  Maybe more like 600-something?

I believe that it's actually 640 power for all of the pitchers.

there are also folks complaining about the lack of Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Willie Randolph.

Gantry

Thanks for catching that guys, the FAQ has been updated.  One thing though, I say that it's 64 points lower than the weakest hitter.  I thought Santana was the weakest hitter, but his power is 708.  So is the pitcher's power 68 points lower than the worst hitter or does somone have a 704 power?

Yes, someone else please do the work for me, I have to keep working on the FAQ...

Good catch. How did we go that long without seeing that?

Way too frickin long...  The whole FAQ is broken into categories and I fixed a whole bunch of bad/incorrect info.  And there's a ton left, I just did the easy fixes...

Not to be a pain, but I was completely shitfaced when I posted that. Hell, I probably would've gotten it wrong anyway though.

Still, that link does clear up a lot -- Armas sucks at running, and Nokes sucks only a tiny bit less. Just as I suspected.

The slowest baserunners in RBI

  • Marc Sulivan
  • Bill Buckner
  • Tony Armas
  • Harry Spilman
  • Any Pitcher
All have a speed of 118 - this will be added to the FAQ shortly...

3 BoSox out of 4 position players...

I'm going to throw Tony Armas out at first from LF.  It will be done.
