its a sinker either way...  it drops doesnt it...  depending on the ability of the pitcher of course.

What I was referring to was the fact that it won't drop unless you swing.

I've seen plenty of "knuckle" pitches drop without swinging.

Set up a two player game and use Mike Scott as one of the pitchers.  Keep throwing knucklers and not swinging with the batter.  You'll should see several of the pitches sink.

There is no doubt that the knuckle ball will sink with or without the batter swinging.  Of course this is dependent on the pitcher.  Some have the sinker while others don't.

Depends on their "sinker effectiveness." At least that's what I'm calling it. Each pitcher has a one-byte (0-15) number which determines how well their sinkers work. The lower the number, the less likely the ball will "sink" and hit the plate. In toying with this number to determine what it was, I changed Tudor's to 15. Every~ sinker pitch hit the plate, without exception.

You mentioned Mike Scott. His sinker effectiveness is 14. Incidentally, that's also the highest in the game. Next is McDowell (New York) with 12, followed by Krukow (San Francisco) with 11. You'll probably notice that these pitchers "sinkerballs" drop and hit the plate much more frequently than other pitchers.

the most dominating pitch in the game too bad it kills your pitcher's stamina.  should be used only in huge counts where a strike-out is needed.
