Techie Question about memory in Nesticle

On the FAQ page (I believe) it says how someone watched the bytes that got loaded in Nesticle to discover that pinch hitters get a 64 point boost.  How would one go about doing this?  Is there a menu option in Nesticle that shows the ROM as it is being loaded or the current CPU register values?

I was the one who did that, and I can't quite remember what I did.  I thought I used Nester to do this but after confirming with nightwulf, that isn't the case.  I used some program (FCE Ultra maybe) to dump the RAM in the middle of an atbat or whatever, and then opened up the file in UltraEdit...

Gantry

Looking at the options in FCE, I don't think that is what I used either....

Jeez, I can't remember what emulator I used to do this.  It pretty much had an option of Function-Key to let you dump the RAM while it was running.  Maybe FCE Linux on the console.  I'll try to remember what I did...

Beanball

I dunno how to dump or read the data in play, so I can't answer any questions.
But, did anyone ever notice a tangible difference involved in subbing the pitcher?  A pinch hitter roids up for his pinch hit, but unless I'm imagining things, it seems as though when you sub in a pitcher, he always gives up a hard hit ball to the first batter (regular lineup, not a pinch hitter) he faces.

Has anyone else noticed this?  If it does, I wonder if a pitcher substitution works along the same lines as a pinch hit, and gives the batter a boost?

Gantry

I have noticed the homer after a pitcher sub, and if I can figure out how to dump the RAM, it would be an easy test.  More reason to retrace my steps...

Chris Hill

Thanks, let me know what you come up with.  The reason I ask is because if there is a way to dump the RAM after each at bat, then there should be a way to write a "scorekeeping" application that interprets the dumped data and assigns the incremented H, 2B, 3B, HR, etc. to the player who was just at bat.  Ideally you wouldn't want to dump in between at bats while playing, but with a bit of fooling there might be a way to create a statistics program, which would be kind of neat especially for head to head play...

Big Hath

Gantry, this is the post where you revealed your pinch-hitter revelation:

Maybe it'll jar your memory.

Gantry

You're a good man Big Hath, that must have meant I used Nesticle.  I'll play with it later today and hopefully we can solve a few questions...

I guess I need to learn how to use my own search function!
