Okay, so how can you guys explain the fact that both Keith Hernandez and Tim Raines have the exact same ratings: 843 power and 11 contact...

...yet Raines is clearly much better?

I honestly don't play much with all-stars, but I always thought Raines was a bit overrated.  He isn't the powerhouse everyone paints him to be.  A great player obviously, but his specality is turning a base hit into a run more than anything else...

Foster definitely should have broken out "I'm Keith Hernandez" after launching that baby.  You played such a solid game with Cali in game two, all for naught.  JoeD goes yard with Potatoes (the first of two IIRC) and dedicates it to me after hitting it.  Good man...

Back when I was a kid, I kept season stats for RBI.

The top two home run hitters every season were Dawson and Raines.

Raines is a beast.


I've never done much with Hernandez.   Also, I've never done much with Reggie, but I'm scared to death of him when my opponent has Cali.

Raines probably had more home runs for you since he was a leadoff hitter (leadoff hitters always have the most ABs throughout a season) on a team that you probably went around in the order more with.
My guess is if you actually kept stats on homers per at bat (excluding strikeouts), they would be much closer.

I have always been able to hit just as many homers with Keith as the rock.  Raines is much better though being the 2nd fastest runner on the game.

Does anybody know what the last 2 variables are for in the Pitching Statistics?  U1, U2.
Does this have something to do with how the computer pitches the ball?  Maybe, probability of him throwing a ball over the plate, or the likelyhood of him pitching from different spots on the rubber?

The best guess is that it is what the CPU uses to decide pitch selection/location, no one has figured it out for certain, just that it doesn't affect Human controlled pitchers.

It would be cool if we could figure this out.  (ie, if we could figure out what numbers to use to make the computer pitch every pitch down the middle of the plate (maybe even with the same speed).

This would be a great way for me to practice my "straight Pitch", game play.  (not straight pitch like our fantasy league, but real straight pitch).

Some people have tried maxing out and zeroing out the unknowns without noticing any difference.  It does appear to be used by the computer, though - Nightwulf found that the value was being loaded into memory when the computer was pitching.  I'll have to see if I can dig up the post to find out exactly when the value was loaded.

The fact that the value gets loaded into memory at some point is as close as anyone's come to figuring it out.

It's no guess. The only time either value is read is when a CPU-controlled pitcher is about to throw. Sometimes it's one, sometimes it's the other, and sometimes it's neither. I haven't yet bothered to go any deeper than that, and probably won't any time soon.
