Pulled out my RBI manual and found some interesting tidbits of info.  Some goodies (non all-star):

Best ERA - Shane Corbett 1.10

Worst ERA - Don Robinson 3.42

Worst Curve  - Donny Moore, Senor Smoke and Dave Smith with the E Curve.

Only players with A Contact - Alan Trammell, Wade Boggs and Kirby Puckett.  Further proof that the contact rating is the most worthless stat of all-time.

Senor Smoke's Top Speed is 94 according to the manual.

Player's with E Speed & E Contact - Marc Sullivan, Darrell Evans & Tim Laudner

Interesting.  I have never seen the RBI manual.  Do they just rate the players from A to E on different categories?  How many categories are there?

The only categories are contact and speed, and the contact stat is meaningless.

they have two categories for pitchers as well,  velocity and curve...  corbet's 1.10 era is a crock... i have no clue where they came up with that figure...  highest batting avg. is tgwynn-->  .370;  that doesnt carry over either.

I should put the player ratings on the team pages.  But for now, check out rbibaseball.com - they have all the curve/speed/contact ratings for all the teams...

For pitching, curve and fastest pitch are the only two stats in the manual.  It would be nice to have an endurance rating - all they say is that each player's endurance is different and starters have three times the endurance of relievers...

All the fastest pitch listings in the manual are way too conservative...

i think the manual is lacking in another area... is it just me or do some fielders have better arms than others...  darryl has a gun, so does gibby... then, there are guys like gary pettis who cant throw 15 feet.

Very true Joe, the arms are different, and the contact rating might be bullshit, those A contact players are pretty brutal at times, and Evans just rakes with the E contact.

The outfielder arms are definitely different - Brunansky has the best gun IMHO

Contact rating definetely doesnt mean anything because puckett sucks even though he is an A, and Gibson is good with a D.

Maybe the A contact hitters are more likely to foul a ball off when the ball just gets a piece of their swing, but if you get good wood on the ball it shouldn't matter if your contact rating is A or E.  Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't figure out why they would include those ratings in the instructions if they're entirely meaningless.

I dont know what they were thinking when they made contact rating.  But they must be a bit confused if they are giving guys like Spilmn who has 1 homer but has much more power than Puckett who has like 30 homeruns.
