If you can keep a steady stream of locals, then you are definitely set.  I was thinking more of the national crowd...

People really do have an inflated ego with games from their youth, it's all about circle of competition.  I remember in college we played a ton of ping pong and I started to get (what I thought) was really good.  After college I went to this ping pong club in Schaumburg with my $20 paddle and these dudes with $200 paddles they changed the rubber on every month played me.  I basically couldn't return a single serve if they were trying their hardest, they put so much fkn spin on the ball.  So humbling, csb...

I still think/hear of the people who talk about how Bo Jackson in the original Tecmo is the best ever, you can't stop me etc.  I just nod and smile...

Cumulative look at 5 Tecmo tournaments the last 13 months
The top graphic has grey box for any event a player attended, and where they placed.
Of 9 possible championship game slots, we've filled 8 of them.

The bottom graphic breaks down W-L record for each event, record vs field (people outside our group), record among us 4, and i also included lowest margin of victory against the field.  Shows games of  7 or less Pt. win vs field, and 8-13 Pt. wins.  Of our 59 wins, only 4 were by less than 14 pts.  In Columbus with a field of 32 players, the closest anyone got was 28-6.

Nate beat a guy in Des Moines by 7 in group play.  Nate lost to him by 1 in the tournament, and I beat him by 4 in championship game.

That one guy accounts for half of our 7 or less pt victories, and our only loss.  He was unable to attend Omaha last weekend.  After seeing his game that day, we have some new wrinkles for his offense.  I have a good handle on which match-ups to throw out against him.  He's fairly fundamentally sound on defense, and he runs an efficient ball control offense with a lot of QB running.  I located his cryptonite in the 2nd half of the title game though, and finished out the game on a 10-0 run.  I tossed Three 1st half INT's against him which is more than I'll usually throw in 6 tourney games, but only trailed 6-0 at the half.  He didn't do anything out of the norm to cause those INTs, I just made some bad decisions/poor cycling through WRs.  Regrouped and played a flawless 2nd half, and got him to toss a couple picks as well.

I will say this about the field, we run into some guys with pretty decent game by the semi-finals.  That's where you play a 5-0 guy that's clearly at the top of the field, and can do some things.  Ran into those types in Omaha/Des Moines/Houston last year.  Eventually they make a mistake and you counter with 1st half/early 2nd half fatal-ish blow to tilt things in your favor, and then ride out that control the rest of the way.
