Mike F.

My buddy and I were reminiscing about the days of playing the original RBI Baseball back in college and I was wondering how I could play online. I've seen some stuff about this, but don't know alot.

1) What do I need to do to download the game?

2) What do I need to do to play the game?

3) Is there a way to play online against a friend?

RBI Baseball holds a ton of great memories for me and I'd love to play it again. Please e-mail me at mfarrell2@attbi.com with any help. Thanks alot.

Hey Mike, welcome...

I really need to get a faq question regarding this up...  But the quick answer is to download an emulator and rom.  You can get the RBI Baseball ROM at http://dee-nee.com/rbi/roms - after that, download a NES emulator.  I suggest FCE Ultra, get it at http://fceultra.sourceforge.net/ - unzip both files into the same directory and run FCE Ultra.  Open up the RBI Baseball.nes file....

Very rough explanation, so let me know how it goes...

get nesticle -- http://www.zophar.net/NESticle/nestc042.zip -- for netplay. you basically find someone else to play, both of you have to have the rom. one of you will start the server in nesticle (net>start server) and the other will connect (net>connect.) whoever is starting the server will give the person who is connecting his ip address and he will be able to connect for a game. if you want to hit me up for a game, i'm fly8892 on aim.

Thanks bedrsn, I knew one of the emulators did Internet play.  Does anyone actually work on NESticle anymore?  It hasn't been updated for years, yet still seems to be the top dog...

You can probably pick up Tecmo Bowl for a couple bucks on EBay Joe....

I still use Nesticle, but I'm not satisfied with it.  Everything works fine on it except the sound.  All of the sound is a little higher-pitched than it should be.  I know that it's no big deal, but the music in some games was one of the things that made them awesome (RBI being excluded of course).  Nesticle worked perfect on an older computer that I used (233MHz I believe), but it doesn't work correctly on the other computers that I have used.  I have tried MoSlo with the computer I have now, but it doesn't affect the sound at all.  So, I have been searching for another emulator with the correct sound, but I have yet to find one that works well in all of the other aspects like Nesticle does.  I wish the maker of Gens (a Genesis emulator) would make an NES emulator.  It's definitely the Genesis emulator to get.  All of the games that I have used on it have played flawlessly and the internet play on it is exceptional as well.

I too noticed the sound issues with RBI in NESticle.  GIve FCE Ultra a shot Gedman, it reproduces the sound almost perfectly in RBI.  Don't think it has Internet play yet though.  Link is above...

Thanks!  I actually had FCE Ultra before so I could play Famicom roms and I always got error messages, so I gave up on it.  If you check under "Config", there are network settings that you can change, worth checking out.

john titor strikes again.  but this time hes striking right at the heart of the RBI infrastructure.  which doesnt make any sense, unless were going to become leaders in the revolution against the robots in the future.
